RMN IMPROVEMENTS

Posts

Akin to the RMN Bugs topic, this topic will track any new improvements I've implemented in the site. Also, feel free to suggest things (though be aware that I am NOT proficient in the site's codebase ....yet)

- Contest participation achievements bumped from 5 makerscore to 50
- Contest winner achievements bumped from 10 makerscore to 100
- New Featured Game achievement added and handed out to all past users who've had a featured game (hopefully I didn't miss anyone!), worth 20 makerscore 75 makerscore

MORE Gameprofile updates!

-Publicly display Profile View count on gameprofiles
-Publicly display subscriber count on gameprofiles
-Show total number of downloads on the game lists
-Show number of reviews next to the the average review score (on game lists and on the gameprofile summary)
-games sortable by download counts (all downloads), views (Warning! its a little slow to sort by downloads - still looking at ways to make it more efficient)
-allow the user to specify which 4 images appear on the gameprofile's homepage (rather than the last 4 added)
----> Go into your Manage games > Images > edit. You can mark any number of images as Homepage (though only the first 4 will show up on the homepage). Yay for customization!

-allow user to specify the ORDER that their gamepages appear
----> Go into your Manage games > Pages > Edit page, then enter a sort order number. The sort order is from left to right, lowest number to highest. You can only sort Primary pages. The default pages (such as blogs, reviews, downloads, images) cannot be manually sorted.

What was added in the last update:

- Added sort asc/desc buttons to game/blog/image/event/article/tutorial posts so you can sort them with the newest on top (will look into making this something you can set in your settings in the future).

- You can now delete Event entries right from the Event page (Manage Entry / Entries). This does not touch locker files or game downloads; it only removes the Event entry.

- Integrated markitup on most, if not all text areas on the site. There are some of (what I think) the most used bbcode functions on there right now. Let us know if there should be other buttons up there! Also, please let us know if you notice any performance issues (i.e. if it is slow / non-responsive).

- upgraded the sites copy of jquery. I didn't look over every one of the sites js scripts, so I'm not sure if this will have any adverse effects. I didn't notice any when I was testing the site.

I think that is everything...

EDIT: I forgot to take into account custom game profiles when I implemented markitup. I'll see what I can do to fix that. Might be as simple as letting you know what CSS you need to change to customize it, although it can be a bit fickle with CSS. Also, it is not enabled when editing posts.
Also, as far as I know, Yeaster was the only participant (and thus winner) of the Scary Movie 2010 contest. I gave him the achievements for it.

I will NOT be giving achievements for the community game events, such as BQ or SRB. Those aren't really contests, and besides, you get listed on the gameprofile when it is created, and get makerscore from that.
Nice to see achievements getting a little more love. Although I feel you should get a little more makerscore for a featured game, as that's not really a small achievement in the least.
What would you suggest? Shinan and I were just discussing it in IRC and I just put 20.

Keep in mind articles are only 30.
Well, articles and contest submissions aren't exactly hard to get approved. I think it means a lot for the staff to say your game was the best of that month (Or whatever other criteria), so maybe 50/60 or something?

I just felt odd that it was lower than contest submissions, things that don't really have requirements to be accepted.
Hmmm...good points. I bumped it up to 75. More than participating in a contest (which IS difficult because of the short timeframe) but less than winning a contest.
a "Mark all Read" or "Mark forum Read" feature would be really handy.

an indicator on the thread icons for "threads I've posted/participated in" would also be a nice enhancement.

Little things that enhance the users ability to quickly identify thread they're interested in.

Be Well
I would like maybe within one of the rules a list of forum codes for those of us who forget and who aren't "arsed" to learn after learning HTML.

Just a suggestion... thanks
It's in the FAQ, but I agree it should be more visible.

I will make note of the Thread stuff, brew.

How about a "Set for DST" box that adds an hour when checked so we don't have to manually alter the offset, or a way to sync our displayed setting with our computer's clock, since that automatically adjusts?
Not a lot of work, I know, just annoying.
