FINAL PARTY IN FINAL FANTASY 6

Posts

Reading everyone's posts... I forgot how easy it was to break the game. This game had some serious exploits.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If your team doesn't include Locke you are a failure at life.

Locke solo game FTW.
locke is for wimps. are you a wimp ??
Terra, Celes, Locke and Mog I think it was.
Terra is awesome.
Celes also awesome.
Locke knows steal.
Mog is the frickin' killer rabbit.

Ultima + Celestriad = A few of the pure wins

Seriously, I was literally shocked when I started spamming Ultima on Kefka...all for 1 MP each.
Does anyone remember using Sketch on Gau after he returned from a leap in the veldt but before the battle was over? I'm pretty sure you couldn't do this on the non-SNES versions of the game, but I remember things getting pretty crazy after doing that. Like ending up with 200 Dirks in my inventory, all in their own stack of 1.

The same glitch happens when you Sketch an enemy that is invisible, iirc. Or at least its similar. You end up with like 50 illuminas and the colors go crazy.

There is no point in factoring level into formulas that are intuitively based on actual stats. There are special cases for sure (Like a theoretical sword that is specifically designed to based on level), but factoring in level in the core of all calculations is redundant, and a bit deceptive. One can, and frequently does, accomplish balanced stat progression without using level in battle formulas like a crutch.

yep that.

I played the game boy advance version instead of the original, so it's now then I know it was known as Economizer in the original :p

and gosh... I guess that equipment that provides 1MP per ability was just totally imba (unbalanced).
If I remember correctly my party consisted of Locke, Terra , Celes and Gogo when I battle Kefka the first time. It was so overkill it wasn't even funny.
Sabin, Cyan, Locke, and Gogo.

Double Phantom Rush back-to-back kicks some serious ass.

I sketched some enemy right as it cast Vanish on itself and then I kept playing even though the game went a bit wonky. I saved my game and kept going, and going... then I realised some of my best weapons were gone. I ended up having to equip super-Edgar with, like, the fifth best weapon because the others I had either lost or didn't know how to acquire. Whoops. I did get like 900 elixers, but I didn't use them because it felt like cheating. I also got approximately 2000 dirks (no joke!), and I DID use those as unlimited ammo for Throw. I didn't use any of the 19 Economizers it gave me either, for the same reason as the elixer. I would have preferred my swords back!
My final party for FF6 was as followed:

Locke - Genji Glove and X-offering combo with Valient Knife and Atma Weapon: All spells learned, Max HP and MP, Best equip possible, and from over training his stats were bomb.

Edgar - What's not to love about this tool wielding playboy!? I fought around the arena so I could outfit him with Marvel Shoes, but other than that I don't remember much else. It's been awhile. He had the same going for him as Locke with the spells and stats.

Sabin - Blitz. That is all. (Same as Edgar and Locke with spell and stats)

And finally.......Terra. I had some relic combo on her that enabled a few shots of Ultima for only 1MP...which wasn't a problem since she had max MP and 400 short of max HP. Besides, Morph her into her Esper form and it's all good from there.

I did contemplate Cyan but I didn't add him for one reason -- he was a tad slower than my party above. He was a good fighter (and for some reason I made sure to teach everyone ALL SPELLS....which took a damned good bit of time) but I felt he could be used as a reserve character in case Sabin or Edgar fell.

Any use of Relm's sketch in a situation like this can also cause the SNES cartridge to delete all your saves. It can also result in you walking around with a party of 4 dead characters, which if you get into a fight you will game over automatically.

Almost all game, I would use Sabin, Edgar, Celes/Terra, and Mog. I had Mog with Sprint Shoes and Black Belt, and had him use Wind Rhapsody. Celes/Terra would have 2xEarrings, or 1xEarring + Gold Hairpin, Edgar would have w/e, and Sabin would also have 2x Earrings.

They would all stand in the back row, Sabin using Rising Phoenix (can't remember the SNES one, but it was forward-half circle-back), Edgar using Chain Saw, Mog using Wind Rhapsody, and Terra/Celes usually attacking until a heal was needed.

Obviously I didn't use a team like this late game, but because they took almost no damage with this set up except against spell casters (who I would just Runic if I was using Celes) and Mog kept them always healed up with Sun Song, it made getting through the game a breeze. Then, near end game, I would farm the crap out of stuff to get my characters probably farmed for the end battles.

why would i heal when i could equip a morningstar

Bzzzzzt.

The game doesn't have normal stat progression. It might go up a point or two, like Strength if you have Ifrit or Bismarck, but if you keep Ifrit on Sabin he's going to be the only one dealing damage worth a damn by the endgame. On top of that, as HP goes up you need to increase damage dealt on both sides - it gives the game a sense of progression.

Would level-based formulas in a game with stats based on level make sense? Probably not. Do they make sense in FF6? Yessir.
