FINAL PARTY IN FINAL FANTASY 6
Posts
Gau, Umaro, Mog, Relm
I'd have Gau put his Rage skill to good use. Umaro just does his usual thing. Mog uses Dance to dish out the hurt. For Relm, I have her cast Berserk on herself 1st turn, and then let her lay into the enemy party. This method always wins me the game. Always.
Edit: Sometimes, I swap out Relm with Gogo for double Dance power.

author=Neokthis is an interesting party! Especially the strategy with Relm (I thought she was a magic caster :o!)

yes, i never knew what to do with the little tot.
Relm was one of my favorite characters but with Sketch being as flawed as it was, I never really used her unless I had to. There was always someone better. When I am just playing for fun though, I always have her in my party. Usually Relm, Setzer, Mog, and Umaro. But short of Mog, I wouldn't use any of those characters seriously. :<

Gau is so underrated. People say he sucks, but he was dishing out 7000+ damage consistently long before anyone else in my party.
Who said Gau sucks? :( I thought he was fairly commonly considered an upper-tier party member... because some of those Rages are insane.
author=VersaliaI always liked him. He always seemed to know spells (ie- via Rages) ahead of the other party members. I mean, you get Fire 2 from the Templar, and Gau starts with that!

I recently learned about Wind God Gau. Imma gonna make one!

I guess it depends on where you go/who you talk to. I have seen people put him at the bottom, and I was like, "O REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY?"
My main team was Terra, Edgar, Cyan and Gau. I think I've used everyone at least once aside from Strago, and maybe Locke.
Gau doesn't suck, but it takes major meta-game to really know how to use him. I wouldn't sit their in a battle with each rage just to learn what sort of spells and such he gets from each.
And it's not just the spells, either. Rages come with inherent elemental resistances/weaknesses. I think Magic Urn gives you immunity to all magic and status effects, and randomly casts Cure 3 on the entire party.

Your avatar matches with this statement perfectly! *flies to the scene*
What is wind god Gau?
In the SNES release, a popular setup involving Gau is to equip him with the Merit Award, the Offering, and a Tempest, which randomly casts Wind Slash when attacking, and then use the Stray Cat Rage. The result is Gau attacking four times, randomly using Wind Slash which would have a high boost in power by the effects of the Stray Cat's "Catscratch" attack. This combo proved so powerful that in all releases after the SNES version, Gau is prohibited from equipping the Merit Award. Gogo would later follow suit in the Advance release, having lower stats than Gau, but able to use the same combination.
The above setup usually meant death to everything. All things considered, Gau is probably the craziest, zonkiest, game smashing character in the game. Nothing and no one can beat a well played Gau. Nothing.

It's pretty terrible they prevented that but not the Nightshade+Charm rage
even the gba superbosses are vulnerable to it (until they die and respawn to emulate >65k HP which clears the state but then Gau'll just reapply it)

Whoawhoawhoawait just a minute, what's the Nightshade+Charm rage?
Whoawhoawhoawait just a minute, what's the Nightshade+Charm rage?
Nightshade rage can inflict charm on enemies. No enemy in the entire game (FF6A included) resist it. A charmed enemy can't do anything. It's a "I Win" button whose only fault is that you can't get it until the WoR.
So besides the Charm exploit, what possible party configurations would you recommend for tackling the toughest bosses in FF6A optional dungeon?
