Hi

:-)

Thought you could keep the bullshit confined to one thread didn't you?

Oh hey vegeta what's the scouter say etc.
Hm... seems your beef is not with me but the dragonball series.

I love DBZ, although it's abit out-dated now imo compared to other animes.
I'm not a fan of silliness during serious hardcore fighting either.
But that applies to a lot of other animes than just DBZ.

The Buu saga started to get iffy with me towards the end.

PLEASE, CAN SOME JUST PLEASE KILL THE MOTHERFUCKER WHILE YOU HAVE AN ADVANTAGE OVER HIM.
instead of letting him live, so he can power up/absorb friends/etc and then beat your ass
then you say "wha-what happened? how could this be?!"

i have beef with certain aspects of DBZ to say the least.
Remember the good old days when people played Pokemon cards? Yu-Gi-Oh? Fuck everyone is young here.

Also, it's based off a video game.

How about remember the good old days when kids played make believe in the forest out back with all the neighborhood kids, not took a break from Pokemon Red to play Pokemon cards.

Kids still play outside.
I live in Texas where kids more often play outside rather than inside.

The good old days is really based on peoples good memories of the past.
Be that playing a TCG or playing make believe outside.
Has nothing to do with age imo.
It's just funny when an anti-technology rant romanticizes Pokemon trading cards.

People really liked the Pokemon trading card game o.o
It was the shit back then. (still is to a lot)

I play Magic now, which is more mature and badass.
imo anyways :D

edit: I think it was tardis who said he stills plays pokemon, but mostly with kids.
i'm usually the youngest at FMN(friday night magic)
so the atmosphere is more fitting now as an adult

I must be old because I remember 90% of the U.S. collecting Baseball and Basketball cards back in the day.
When I first started playing games it was on the Atari 5200, and then (for me) came the Sega Master System, the original Nintendo, and so on. Having played games since a wee little one, I can honestly say I just never got into the card games at all. I saw them becoming popular, but they just never did anything for me. As for as the "evolution" of games ruining things for people I think for quite a few old-school gamers it might. Not that it does, or will, but it may. In my opinion, the day I played FF III (FF VI) on my SNES was the day that defined my gaming experience. I must have lived and breathed that game for days on end, even managed the SPOILER*** "General Leo bug" in Thamasa accidentally (going through the Guardians like they weren't there). Then along came FF VII, and while I loved the 3D graphics and FMV sequences, it wasn't a FF VI. FF VIII was meh to me (hated the Draw system with the passion of a thousand blazing suns), and FF IX was just awesome...but still not a FF VI. After IX, things started to slowly go downhill for me. These days I look at games like FF XIII, and I wait until they're out for rent before I even bother trying them out (FF XIII was a major letdown).

I think commercial developers are looking at graphics/gameplay over story, because that's what selling. It's really about the bottom line. If you've got a piss-poor story, but you can create a True 3D game (like for the 3DS or future similar console) that's got truly epic graphics then you're going to make money. Take FF IV for instance, same story, but they put it on DS with new graphics and some new features, and now they're putting it on PSP with all-new hi-res graphics and such...but still the same storyline. FF IV for the PSP will probably make millions of dollars for Square, but why if it has the same story just about? Because of graphics. When (not if) they remake FF VI it will be the same storyline pretty much, just with a dousing of hi-res graphics and enhanced dialog. Expect the FF VI remake to make double what FF VII pulled in in its first month.

To answer the topic's question? I think "evolution" of gaming is not going to ruin lives or what not, but I do think it is geared toward the "next big thing" in terms of graphics, and that is a sad state of affairs for us old-school gamers.

Wow...sorry about the length of this post everyone. Apparently I had quite a bit to say. LOL

There has been a lot of amazing anime series and movies alike since DBZ, but I used to love DBZ as a kid, so I will always have to pay my respects. However in the later years I used to watch a lot of Cowboy Bebop and nowadays Full Metal Alchemist has sparked my interest.

dbz seemed to always be the first anime series anyone ever watched that I knew, then people get interested in all different things.

Whoops though I'm getting off-topic.

Seriously this pretty much sums up everything I believe about FF.

Then I'm old, too, because I have 3 binders full of those things lying around in my grandma's basement. :v Although half of those also contain Marvel Superheroes trading cards from back then...

Perhaps. You could be very right about that, though I'd rather be accused of loving the old-school RPGs with an actual storyline than buy a game that has a very weak storyline and no real RPG elements at all. I mean, FFXIII follows a simple formula. Cut-scene with gorgeous graphics, battle, cutscene with gorgeous graphics, battle. No real exploration, the battle system was disturbingly wild and frenetic, and the characters' personalities were carved out of wood it seemed (not to mention horrific voice acting). Of course, this is just my opinion. I realize many would disagree with my sentiments, and you're thusly entitled. I suppose in every way that counts, I'm an old-school gamer and always will be.

On-topic, I suppose everyone looks at the evolution of gaming different ways. As I stated earlier, gorgeous graphics are ruling the day today, and I think that's going to continue. Especially with the advent of True 3D handhelds/consoles/TVs and such. Just my own two cents. Take it as you wish. :)
I love CCS, and it's not really out-dated now imo compared to other animes.
Except to the fact it has 82 episodes.
