Tau
Who knew Star Ocean & SD3 mixed so eloquently.
Edit - Text cut off.. Just a sec.
This looks lovely Tau. I like the cute chick too :)
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Tau, the bushes look like Crono's hair.

God damn it, why did you have to say that? Now it's all I see!

LOL, that's an easteregg waiting to be created.
@Avee - Thank you.
@Lockez - You really can't unsee it, it's ridiculous!

Not in game yet, how's this for an inside train look? Very open to changes, I just can't put my finger on it but something seems off about it. Sprites are just there for fun really.

@tau, I think the whole thing is too wide. If you take a tile to be 1x the average human stride then each tile is around 0.78 meters (thank you google), making the train HUGELY WIDE.

I tend to figure one tile as two strides, myself. That said, the size of the corridor is a bit large. Maybe make it one/two tiles instead. Also, aren't there usually compartments on both sides? I haven't been on a train with compartments ever, so...
And the wall would overlap the chair since it usually runs all the way up to the side of the room - or so anime and manga tell me.

@Liberty & NewBlack - Thanks guys, taken your input and I think it does look better, but I just think it is huge though. Also have no idea on what to fill the side part with.
I was thinking maybe longer on each side, like the top goes all the way to the left and the bottom compartments go all the way to the right?
Edit - Quick change again it does look more decent now.

Based on my extensive firsthand knowledge and expertise (aka I have watched a couple dozen or so movies and tv shows set in the late 1800s and early 1900s that had trains in them, and also harry potter), train corridors of that type are generally not wide enough for two people to walk side by side. To get past someone you both have to kind of squeeze against the wall. If I could pick one word to describe the inside of a train (or any type of public transportation) it would probably be "cramped."
However the compartments and layout and tiles all look very nice, I like what you're doing with it. And I realize this makes me PART OF THE PROBLEM as far as game art goes, but I really like the brown-colored Victorian setting type look.
Bandana Guy is glowing pretty brightly, even his shadow is lighter than the ground, he should see a doctor about that.
Fill the side part with rolling tables of food and dishes for the stewardesses to serve to the passengers, I think. Or just remove them?

I wasn't bothered at all by the original train screenshot. Maybe it's because I don't care about realism in a 2D RPG, I don't know.
It's a good thing that Squaresoft (RIP) never posted screenshots of the Phantom Train on RMN.

Phantom train wasn't as wide as a large house.

Finally something new.
The all so cute Wasp of SD3 will be soon replaced with some original Pixel Art like the rest on this screen.
Battle is now full operational, except that it can handle only 1 enemy right now, the other two buddies on the screen I just put in there for sexyness. The battle system will support up to 5 enemies and 3 heroes, two of them controlled by player 1 and player 2, the third spot is free for a pet that you can train later on.

It's a shame they never did. If they had, it might've looked better.
Itaju, your revised puzzle pieces/HUD in general looks much better. My only suggestion is maybe tinting the lower 1/6 of the screen (or whatever it happens to be) a little darker so that your action puzzle pieces stick out a bit more; I assume that they're pretty integral, and thus you want them to be easily "read," no?
why has nobody addressed that a headless person is walking around on that train?
The boss is still a little too difficult, and one of the Lepiota's attacks heals Vaunea instead of draining HP from her. Whoops!
