No, it's pretty grammatically sound; he just needs to use "engages in combat."
@kory_toombs: The left box is for a statweb (to be added later).
@LouisCyphre: Thanks for the Info!
Maybe one of you native english speakers could help me later on to correct a few texts for me. Its not much and there is a lot of other work to be done first.

Hey! Listen!Why not use the RTP backgrounds that come with the RTP, since you're using RTP monsters and RTP edited battlers? They fit best, yes? Or maybe you could look into some of the backgrounds that are made for the engine? I know there's a big lot of cool ones in the Resource Topic.
Did you seriously just Hey Listen me?
I would but I've already scrambled RTP, charas project, and FF monsters on the same field to the point where it's moot.
I use RTP/FF for main field stuff, like going to a generic forest that hasn't its own map settings. In any case, my real life pics are usually reserved for like boss battles or special events. (The reason it was using that, was because it was in battle test mode and happened to be set on that)
I pretty much never post in this thread. I should start...? Anyway, this isn't a screenshot but a mockup. I need to actually make a tileset full of stuff before I can start writing an algorithm to do room interiors for my random dungeon generator.

@Sated: I know there's stairs, but I was trying to do elevation without them for a more...natural look, to say the least? I know the original Void had stairs (which if you think about it, is kinda odd that floating rocks in nothingness has stairs no??), but eh...

It's "the Void", which in RPG roughly translates to "anything goes". The more you throw reality out the window, the more exciting such an area becomes.

My party selection screen. The current party is on the left. I'm probably going to change it so that members who are currently selected are shown in monochrome on the right. The red box is the cursor.
Perhaps this is more satisfactory? This is the left path of the previous area (top path will be a bit longer, but will also be a dead end. Not always is top the correct way to go!). I did say that other areas aside from the first hub area (first map I showed) will be more fancier than that map. Dimensions are 40x35.

There will probably be floating lands out in the unused space so as to have it use something there. Still need that starry background for the parallax background. x_x;

I've decided to work with Panoramas instead of Chipsets. I only use the chipsets for elements on the map that are supposed to show up above the hero. This is WAY less handicapping and allows me to make some really cool looking maps like in FF7. For the start, I made some cool caves for a dungeon:

I'm liking this. But then, I prefer realistic BGs to tilesets any day.
The middle cave on the third looks alot like a mouth.
How do these connect? I can tell the obvious same colored, but do the different pictures connect?

@White_Rabbit Just asking, what engine is this project in? If it's in 2K(3), it's not going to work for some people.
Why wouldn't it work for most people? Hangups over sprite-map clashes are a mental construct. Once you get past it, you find mapping is alot more interesting.
Tilesets are good if you can do them well, but if you're a photographer rather than an artist, parallax should be a viable (though not ideal) option.

Thanks. These were the plans, as far as it's possible to follow my scribbles. I've replaced the backgrounds with the artworks for you (they were sketched as well before I started).

Why shouldn't it work? It's just the same as any other game using a chipset with a paralax background.

It won't "work" because people are stupidly elitist in this forum about having sprites match the perspective of the screen.
This is "wrong". Nevermind, that I see nothing at all wrong with it, because it's a curved road aside a hill. But seriously, it's just a game. Nobody playing the game who isn't an art snob is gonna care if the character is too short/tall with regard to the scene. I mean, look, most of us grew up with characters big as towns on worldmap.

1. If this is in 2K3 then the quality of the picture's going to have to be butchered.
2. If I'm still moving like I'm on a grid on a 3D map like this, it's not going to do it for me, sorry.
It's not about being elitist about sprite sizes. It's about trying to do 3D in a game engine designed to make 2D games. Your screenshot is a bad example because the cartoonish 2D sprite clashes with the realistic 3D environment. It's fine as a panorama, but if you're moving in the map as if the picture IS the map, then the perspective is somewhat off.

GamingMitchell, there are ways to dither. You can manage near perfect pictures if you use irfanview, and resize properly with it.

(See the text?)

Original picture.
You can really tell the difference, right? No?
I disagree, if you are able to do something, only personal taste is a preventing factor. Since I have none of that (taste), and grew up in this era,

then I'm perfectly okay with 2d/3d clashes. Other people may not agree, but that really is their taste, not an absolute law.
