EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN

However, there are thousands of different causes in the world that deserve support and attention. Obviously no one person can focus on them all. So, Radnen, though your opinion on this topic does not sit perfectly with me, I am willing to accept that this is not the cause for you.
This is true. I'm hoping Radnen enjoys helping old ladies across the street or something :)
It's getting a lot of attention because it's the biggest earthquake ever in Japan, the tsunami destruction, the nuclear threat and that it's all happening to a first-world country (which people can relate to more). When comparing the amount of attention giving to events, it's best to not complain that one is getting too much, but try and let other events get attention (in relevant topics).
The nuclear stuff is playing out like a long bad movie, and I want to be in the south of Japan for it. Hopefully hopping on a plane tomorrow.

Well, I hate to say this but the best thing we can do over here is help and bring food and supplies to japan.

Japanese culture and technological achievements having had a big global impact within the last decade or two is also probably helping to get more attention to Japan's current plight. This complements your theory that people can relate more to Japan than other disaster-stricken regions, I think.
