DRAGON AGE 2

Rcholbert wanted a new topic so... Yeah, just doing that before the old one gets locked or whatever.
I did like the final boss though. Although throughout the whole final act Gravitic Ring just slowed everyone to crawl ready to be AoE'd. Playing it on Hard now for a better challenge with my 2her.

the hardest fight in the entire game for me was the first Varterral fight because you're forced to use Merrill
and i never used Merrill
really most of the earlier boss fights were the hardest for me (as well as those crazy rooms where you get like 4 shades, 2 rage demons, a golem, a desire demon, and a revenant)
meanwhile the Act 3 boss fights, like Hybris or the High Dragon, were honestly kind of laughable

the final boss was pretty cool with everything going on, but i was never in much danger of dying or anything. idk, the difficulty felt sort of lopsided i guess. maybe my fault for doing every single sidequest though!

Yeah it wasn't hard, I was referencing how epic it was seeing all that tension just boil over into something that actually tied the plot up pretty well.
I'm not through the game yet, but I'd have to say that the hardest fight for me was the one against Arishok. Damn, did that guy ever hit my group hard.
The Arishok duel was kinda hard, but once I figured out his pattern of movement, he became incredibly easy. Now, the High Dragon and the Pride Demon were only difficult because they had underlings. By themselves, they just have incredibly high defense.
The final boss was epic, but underwhelming. Since I had ten allies, I never had any doubts.

I ran in with five. Show for spoilers.
Isabela ran away with the relic. The archer guy who I never used bitched out because he hates mages. I got Carver killed in the Deep Roads. I let him live, but I kicked Anders out of the party for being a terrorist. And, while he initially sided with the templar, I convinced the elf warrior I never used to join me. My main party was me (spirit healer), Aveline, Varric (best character), and Merril.
By the way, if you Dispel the mechanical golem thingies in the final fight, they are stunned for three-quarters of the duration of the Dispel cooldown... so they basically never act.
I am loving the Mage class to all sorts of hell yes!
I started again to play as a rock / lightning dude, and it just feels so good.
Btw I just noticed elves look like Naavi. Wth is that about?

I had -
Isabela came back after running off with the relic, and I defended her against the Arishok. Fenris needed no convincing - our friendship was strong, so he stood by me even when I sided with the mages. Bethany, the sister, was taken to the Circle of Magi, and since I sided with the mages, she aided me. I did not kill Anders, and I allowed him to stay with my party.
My party was my Main Character (Warrior, damage dealer), Aveline (Tank), Varric, and Merrill (who I romanced).
Cullen, the Templar who calls out Meredith at the end, joined me, as did Aveline's husband, Donnic. That's ten. However, I forgot two other party members. If you save Nathaniel Howe during a sidequest, he joins you as well. Zevran also came a bit late, seeing as I helped him with the Crows. So, that's twelve party members. Made the final fight very easy for me.

I wish the final fight was harder and scaled with your amount of allies but whatever, it was just really cool to see all those sidequests I ran come back to help me out.
Also the whole elf Na'vi thing, I didn't mind it so much. The elves in the other game weren't very distinguishable.

I've read a few reviews of this game, and it sounds like the reviewers aren't so impressed with it but they give it like 8.5/10 or higher for fear of the wrath of bioware fans. Honestly, it's hard to pick out the more positive aspects from them.
I'm only about to delve into the first one, however, and if I like it I'll be giving this one a try regardless.

My friend is a DA1 fangirl. She played it so many times, and is doing it again to get 100%.
So, I bought her DA2 and she died. Apparently it's just that much better? Mind you she only played a few hours.
Also, don't trust game reviews ever. Game journalism rating is such a joke. Besides the fact a majority are just generalized pats on developers backs to ensure they keep getting work, it's kind of like an editorial review of baseball vs football. Some people may not like say, CoD Black Ops for nerfing gameplay to bring your top tier skillz down to casual gamer skill(s?) but others might praise it for leveling the playing field, or a reviewer might give it a 4.5/5? It's what you get out of it. If in doubt watch some gameplay videos or rent it.
I liked origins, but it was far too clunky for the console. That's one of the things I think was a major improvement in Dragon Age 2 regarding the combat system.
As for my final party, well...
As for my final party, well...
I told Fenris (the elf guy) to go away when he offered to join. Isabella left with the relic. I kept Anders (he was my female archer rogue's lover, after all) since he was my Elemental mage. Bethany had become a Grey Warden, and joined me for the final battle. Aveline stayed by my side even though I sided with the mages.
I took with me Merrill (My mix-and-match mage), Anders (reasons stated above), and Bethany, (My spirit mage). With me in the final fight other than my party members were Aveline, Varric, and Connor, and I don't remember seeing Nathaniel or Zevran, but I could've missed them.

I like to read negative reviews because in those you tend to get information about the small annoying niggles and you can figure out if it's something you can live with or not. Overly positive reviews just tend to write useless poetry about how awesome the game is and leave all the useful stuff out.
I guess this was really off topic. DA1 doesn't happen to be on a steam sale for like 2€ does it? Because it's a game I almost would like to play but I also feel that there's just no way I would like it.
The game wasn't that bad, but it felt rushed. The game itself amounted to
Talk to this person, walk down a street to kill Slavers/Renegade Mages/Templars/Renegade Templars/Demons get to the end, make choice, go back to quest giver, get reward and plot.
Dragon Age one was a bit formulaic too I guess, but at least you traveled around the world and had the off puzzle to deal with. Here, you're in the same city fighting the same enemies and appeasing the same leaders over and over. I also don't really see how it ties into the main story aside from some token mentions of the "HERO OF FERELDEN", and a few cameos dropped in.
Combat felt disjointed and overly flashy. With click to move always getting in the way of targeting enemies, I'm forced to pause the game when switching targets, long animations also diminish some of the usefulness of certain abilities and give a contradictory feel to the whole FLASHY BACKFLIP TWITCHY COMBAT facade... While we're on that subject, I'll also say I could do without the whole aesthetic. There's flashy, and then there's FLASHY. They just went a little too far with it; and by the third time Hawke did his super cutscene slow motion finishing leap stab of death, my face was firmly planted on my desk.
I liked it though, but I think it could have used more time. Also:
Anders is a twat
Why do all of the textures look like shit in "high" quality?
Anders is a twat
Varric is probably the only Dwarf character I've really liked
Some of the actions of certain parties made little sense
The tactics screen can go fuck itself

the best DA2 review i have read:
http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/138283-dragon-age-ii-making-the-case-for-quality-games
on the flipside, the destructoid review (which is, at the very least, not written by bigot retard jim sterling) calls the character interactions of DA:O "subtle and nuanced" which is around the point i stopped reading because i'm assuming it just becomes Origins fanboyism from there

Wow... How'd you roll without a healer? I can't imagine playing some of the encounters without a spirit healer... though maybe that's just hard mode.
Anyway, my overall thoughts after completing it are that DA:O is a better game overall, and 90% of that decision is because of the recycled environments. If they had made the dungeons with modular graphics like NWN2 where they can make multiple dungeons using the same set of graphics, it would've been way better. The actual mechanics in DA2 are better and it's the best battle system this generation. The difficulty is much more balanced too. Normal was a little easy but bumping it up to hard was golden for my preferences. DA:O's difficulty was inconsistent and downright frustrating until you figured out how unfair Cone of Cold was. I was disappointed with the story for awhile because the scale was much less epic than DA:O, but I really liked the way it all came together in the third act.

Must be because you played Hard Mode. I played on normal without a spirit healer because...
Just takes a lot of potion chugging and stuns. (Hawke (Rogue), Varric, Merrill and Aveline)

I only used a handful of potions the entire game and I never used poisons/explosives... Maybe the potion cooldown is good enough to suffice. It probably wouldn't be so bad if Merrill had the Creation skill tree, because an 80% heal is still pretty amazing. Anders' Vengeance tree seems weaksauce compared to the hero's Spirit Healer, but is probably more than adequate. Amusingly, my health regen was so high as a spirit healer I stood and solo'd the Arishok... it just took forever because my DPS was pretty low.
yeah, Anders' healing was enough to get me through hard mode relatively scot free. making him a rival made his health regen pretty ridiculous, frankly
hell, i never even used his Vengeance mode, i just had Panacea on always. after a while i put his points into random shit because i literally couldn't get him anything else useful, or at least not without dumping points into worthless damage spells
i also only used a handful of potions, and never had to buy any (or craft any, for that matter). i imagine they'd be pretty handy if you wanted to go without a healer on hard though
edit: i kind of appreciate the fact that the game gives you armor that's not class-restricted but requires the primary stats of a different class, just because it means i could potentially do what i did with Sten in DA:O and give my incredibly strong reaver/berserker a robe
(it only really worked in DA:O because it was the Chasind robes which looked pretty cool on Sten)
