RPGMAKER.NET NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Posts
author=kentonaWhen I initially read the thread I imagined that I paid for everything and owned you all :P Well, if the server's around $150 per month I don't see why it wouldn't be difficult to sustain with donations ($2 per person), or a subscription tier. Maybe lower the maximum locker files/space, or remove it altogether for non-subscribers. ( I may be confusing the cost with that of another server I'm supporting)
I had the strangest dream last night that I got a PM from mikemc (of all people) saying that he was sitting on a 6 million dollar trust fund and that he was willing to dip into that to help sustain RMN.
It was very weird.
do you realize what that would mean
how would I raid GRS' locker if he didn't have one...?

A friend in need is a friend indeed, as the saying goes. I'll gladly chip in!
Could this thread be updated to show how close we are to fully supporting RMN? I am desperately interested.
I'll provide an update when I get home but the short version is that it looks promising!
Edit: The status update as promised!
We currently have approximately $122 in recurring sponsorships each month. The monthly server operating expenses are $149 and the other expenses are peanuts. That puts us $27 short each month, though I believe ad revenue will fill in that gap most months (though it is erratic). That means we're pretty safe and that rpgmaker.net isn't going anywhere. If anyone is still interested in signing up for a recurring sponsorship or providing a donation I would still recommend it as you never know when we will hit a rainy day or when someone will quit sponsoring.
I am trying to think of something really cool to celebrate this achievement. I am open to suggestions. The rpgmaker.net community has been criticized before for being a bunch of elitist bastards who only care about themselves, but this is tangible evidence of a community who cares and is invested in the site. The cool thing is that a lot of the one-time donations have come from less visible members who use the site frequently without being vocal on the forums. I have been suggesting for some time now that the rpgmaker.net community is more than the squeeky wheels we're known for and now I am convinced of it.
We have already purchased our new server and will look to make the move onto it next weekend. Most of the data is already transferred over but we are still testing to make sure it is optimal.
I'm going to try to get the achievements/locker space adjustments for those that donated implemented pretty quickly -- before RMN4.

Sweet!! That is great news!
Perhaps to celebrate this achievement RMN can host a contest? We did just have one though...
*shrugs*
Could Host an official Map making contest.Like the one calunio posted here! BUT have more rules. Like posting a demo so the judges can play your map. Would help give developers feedback on there mapping skills. Make the community better, and HAPPY! ;) ....And a little maker score never hurt anybody. >.> LOL It could start up AFTER all the RMN4 uploading is done.

The thing is you can set up your own contest with no holds barred, just as stated in the last few posts in the topic as stated by geodude.

I do want to try my hand developing for a contest. Last time I tried didn't go as well, but hey, second time's the charm.
Contests are always fun but I feel like working on one is ultimately diverting attention from my main project. I'm just not willing to do that if it's solely for the reward of patting myself on the back that I participated in a thing and have a bigger number under my name.
Unless it's an "easy" contest. It's supposed to be celebratory, after all. If it's not something that absolutely everybody has the time and willingness to put effort into, it shouldn't be done as an "official" celebration.
That being said,
f*ck yeah rmn

If it was a contest it could be a general RMN Appreciation contest. Where everyone submitted something cool. Be it artwork, music, games, articles, podcasts, whatever and everyone got to enjoy the fine stuff. Basically it would be a proper party rather than the seriousness of competition.
And anyone who lives close to each other should have a real life meetup and drink to RMN.
