MAPPING CONTEST 2K3

We totally would have ended up with nothing but lakeside castle resorts if no one could see all the other lakeside castle resorts that were already submitted.
I feel like the lack of trees made lakes the best option. There were certainly improvements in tile usage as the maps kept getting posted.

I would have liked the entries to be hidden until the deadline is over. It would add more surprise to it. Instead of someone seeing all the maps and then thinking "I should make something better"
Seems like it would be a good thing to keep in mind next time.

At the same time, I think the maps probably ended up better since they were out in public.
Maybe. But maybe the talent of the person making it had a bit more to do with it. I don't think the aim should have been to improve everybody's ideas/mapping skills. It's a contest not a collaborative workshop on making great maps with minimal tiles. It all depends on what you want in a contest; a friendly and open good time, or a more competitive exercise in game making. :) I prefer the latter, but it's not really a big deal. Just my thoughts. If there were another mapping contest it would be nice to have something different(in rules and in chipset)

There's nothing wrong with that. It would be easier to judge if everybody followed a similar theme. Then it becomes 'who can make the best lakeside castle'. Blitzen's map is great, but it almost feels as if it's being picked as the best simply because he didn't make a castle. Some of the castle maps are wicked good.
Winners announced in the first post. Good job to everyone that participated. So who's doing the next one :P

Shrug... I voted for it because it was a well constructed map, not because it was different.
I agree with Blindmind, the chipset was strange to work with, with not much variety. It seemed really repetitive for what it offered.
But, I still had fun, also had fun looking at everyone elses maps as well!

Someone should make the next mapping contest. So simple.
That has been done:
