You know what? The original poster is absolutely right. This is a waste of time unless we make money at it. People might hate Aveyond, but at least the maker of those games made money at it. Enough money to keep doing it.

Meanwhile the rest of us give away great games.

If anything its a creative outlet that wastes time.

So the amount of money made doing something dictates its intrinsic value? I find something deeply disturbing about that sentiment.

It's a very specific kind of creative outlet that, while definitely a timesink, is in and of itself something to be valued. Learn to appreciate the inherent joy and beauty that comes with that.

Gee, Zeronamous, that's really depressing. Here's my more positive outlook:

It doesn't matter if you never gain any fame or move on to bigger and better things. It doesn't matter if no one plays your game at all! (Although that would suck) The reason I do it is because it is a fun and relaxing hobby!

Oh come, now. You know you love DOING IT! Tasteless joke aside, I make games because I want to make games. I don't need any other reason than this.

Side note: I'm not even sure if the DOING IT threads are still around. They may have even been removed. I tried using the search function, but it was a no-go.
I am gonna start making games to do 2 things:

1) Teach myself how to make awesome games!
2) To be creative and share my creativity with the world!

I make games because I want to, and it lets me get creative..

The advantage of game creation for oneself is that you can't make a game you don't like (unless you don't know yourself at all).
