WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH SQUARES? (VX RTP MAPPING CONTEST)
Posts
Im not a very experianced mapper, but here is my entry.

Its an old blacksmith, who lives in the mountains. Cause how do you think mountain wolves get their claws?
He has converted a cave into a house, by adding a wall and door. His workshop is through the path to the north.
Thoughts anyone?

I have a issue with those walls. The wooden ones are two tiles high, but the cavern walls are three tiles high. It makes the perspective really funky. Stick with one height for walls. And another thing. You're showing increasing elevation with those stairs on the right, but not with the water on the left. Add waterfalls to the spaces that correspond with those stairs. It'll look much better!
The map has a very nice look to it, but there are some practical issues.
The fireplace looks out of place. Hey that rhymes!
Primarily because I don't see a chimney or outlet. Your old blacksmith will have coughing fits :P There's also the curtains and shied fixed above the water. How did those get there?
The map looks quite good to look at, especially the stream and the wall. But from a practical point of view, the above two points stand out.
EDIT: Also what Scourge says. He beat me to it.

Solid! Now, if you're using events, try adding the waterfall ones from Other2 to the top and bottom of the waterfall. And maybe throw in a cracked floor tile or two, if you want.
The RPT doesnt have any cracked tiles for that floor... i think. But i added the water fall stuff, and am submiting it to whatshis face now. Thanks for your help.
I am still reconsidering my choice, even though I made the screenshot that now fits the theme, since my senses cry out that something's wrong in mine... and I doubt that there's a guy in a red and white striped shirt in there; my eyes are still ok, I think.
Once my doubts are cleared, I'll submit it.

The theme of this contest is to make an inn, shop, pub, or house of some sort. This does not necessarily mean the map must be an indoor map. Be creative, maybe you can have a hobo's homestead outside!
And here I was, thinking up cool ways to do an asteroid belt. Though what I had in mind might be more feasible with XP's RTP rather than VX's RTP.
Maybe I could attempt to pull off a sci-fi style quarters with the RTP? Might be difficult, as the RTP is more in alignment with fantasy/modern settings. Will be playing around with this idea a bit more!
*Edit: Well, I really couldn't pull of a decent sci-fi setting, but how about an underground abode for someone who met with an unfortunate event a long time ago? My unofficial attempt at this idea:

We haz logoz!
Seriousness:
I sent a PM to kentona about making this an official RM event. I don't know if he was the right guy to ask, but it's to late now.

So I talked with Kentona and *we've decided that we are going to keep this a forum event only. However, *we've worked out a makerscore reward of some unknown amount for the participants and the winners!
*By "we", I mean Kentona.

I'm getting a "mining town" feel from Ben's screen. Maybe it's just me, though.
I could use some feedback. I mean, doesn't it make anybody cringe that I don't use the whole screen, and leave a few tiles "blank", or what?

@Marrend
I think that the bed looks strange where it's positioned. I also think that the rocks randomly scattered around the house should be go, and be replaced with broken furniture, ect.
@Everyone
So far we have three official participants, and several others who are still in the works. I'm glad this contest is running well, keep mappin'!

Broken furniture, huh? I might be going off of memories of the 2K chipset, but I think I understand where you're going. As for the positioning of the bed, I didn't really like the placement either (or that it was too "nice" looking), but I also don't really have another place to put it, that I'm aware of.
I'll play around with things a bit, though!
*Edit: Original graphic has been replaced. I couldn't really find much in the way of broken furniture, even with events. I think I'm going with this version as my "official" entry, even though it could probably use some more work.

It took me 2-3 hours to do this : i'm not a maker and never used vx(though the system's very similar {as maps goes} to rm2k3), the hardest was, to do something that looked nice with vx, which i really don't like graphically.
You have to upload your picture to the Internet so we can all see it. Upload it to your lcoker! Everybody gets 10 megs or so of free space. Also I'd suggest you retake your screenshot and save it as a PNG. JPGs are a image format for photos and tons of blended together colors but look horrible with pixel art game. PNGs are great for taking screenshots of RM games!
