I'm cool enough that I don't need to be another character besides myself.

Plus being in Final Fantasy is stupid, half the plots don't make sense and then they pull crap like adding new areas that weren't there before and stupid characters like Genesis, from an outsider's perspective I don't really want my reality f**ked with on a regular basis.

And imagine the fanfiction.

Final Fantasy plots are relatively simple, yet incorporate themes into its storytelling pretty well with great presentation and surprising depth. The only FF that underwent extensive adding onto was VII, and the same goes for Genesis. Fanfiction also isn't FF's fault and its not limited to FF either.

Being lukewarm to the series is one thing, but I don't know where the trend started to suddenly turn on Final Fantasy when its been a staple series in about a good 3/4ths of us when it comes to introducing us to RPGs.

While yeah, there are Final Fantasies that aren't the best they could be, and yeah, every one of them has a flaw, and yes, there are RPGs and JRPGs out there that are better in aspects, the FF series is critically acclaimed and famous for a reason; they're pretty good!

In previous console eras, Final Fantasy installments set the standard for what other RPGs would aspire to. Every department from graphics to music to storyline, the next FF released raised the bar.
They still set the graphical standard now, but overall the games themselves are just another title on the shelf.
