Going to start working on a XP side project. I feel it's time to step up and try something different and try and have some fun. :)

Which project (if any) people would like to see me pick up again.

If I were to consider a crazy thing like that.

Despite the undying flamewar that thing ignited, I'd really like to see more of Journeyman. Or Everything Turns Gray. EtG > Journeyman.

More on topic, right now I'm thinking about how to get my muse back. I took a one day break from writing to pat myself on the back for finishing a thing, and then I lost all my forward momentum.
That rm should be easier to get results with so I didn't have to make my own engine to get the results I want and consequently a trillion bugs I don't want. Also wondering why I've never seen a game with a magic system like mine, I think that's foreboding but I'm not entirely sure.

You won't know until you test it out, but it could be awesome. Don't sweat it.

Lone Wolf, or something cool.

Lots of things, thinking I am.
How's school suffocating me, giving me about 2 to 3 hours of free time with all of the "extra" homework... and with that time, I can't do s*it in RPG Maker, since I'm exhausted... wondering of the fate of my project.

I'm in a bunch of crap right now...
I'm so so happy.

I wonder what I'll feel like when I actually upload the final version of the game. I have finished games before, but one took me 2 months and the other 2 weeks. This one was 14 months.

I don't know what to do, or even where my strengths lie anymore. Whatever motivation I might have had on making anything has been totally killed. I've no doubt that I'll eventually recover, but it seems I really have to consider the conundrum of player knowledge vs. developer knowledge.
thinking about where my motivation has gone to finish my projects, including ones i haven't even started yet...

doesn't help that i'm not very good at graphics (besides anything cartoony). i'd really like to get going on my Double Dragon RPG again, but i can't for the life of me draw a believable and realistic cityscape.
At the moment, I'm wondering how to write the main character's friend so that she's likeable. I've played quite a few RPGs in the past in which I (Lensky) hated characters that my in-game persona was supposed to be friends with. I don't want that to happen.

In contrast to everyone else, I'm kinda excited and really motivated for my game. I'm working in a team, and it's a really strange but fucking awesome feeling when you know everyone's working at the same time towards a similar goal, that progress is being made and you're making something you actually feel proud of. And at this point I'm well aware that this game will have its fair share of haters, but with the way I lurk around the game design forums, taking note of everyone's complaints, learning from past experiences, and trying to be both innovative and nostalgic at the same time, I think this game will have something that appeals to everyone even if they decide to avoid it based on the content.

I'm beginning to think that I need to make something short 'n sweet to rebuild my confidence levels. I suppose I should actually have a plan of attack rather than make stuff up haphazardly like I normally do.

*Edit: Written in a very stream-of-consciousness manner within the last hour or so:

Instead of "Story first, then everything else", let's first start with gameplay mechanics. What do I enjoy when playing games? Well, let's face it. The ease of ability to hack save files is a pretty high priority for me in the enjoyment of a game. I've tried to hack save files from RPGM games, and it's not pretty. The best alternative is to have in-game cheats. Alright, I'll experiment with this idea. As a designer, I should limit the amount of in-game cheating players can do, and make it a very well-hidden, thing.

Battles and game balance are something I need to work on. So let's use this game as an opportunity! As a player, I've no qualms about fighting bosses that take time and require strategy, but I like my normal enemies to be quick and easy. I've used character data as a base to build enemies, so if I calculate the data differently, I should be okay. I think?

Treasure hunting? I do like to hunt treasure for my pleasure, but that would require some amount of planning for the maps. I've never enjoyed making plans for my maps, so this idea might be dropped.

I like the concept behind Lloyd's Beacon. I'm sure it can find it's way into this game somehow! I could make it so that locked areas reset the beacons, but what's the fun in that?

Characters with more personalized skill-sets? Do I care about this? In the end, no. I'm one of those people who don't care if all the characters get the exact same skill-set by the end of the game.

Speaking of skills, what am I do to with them? I'm getting this baaaad feeling that I'm going to end up copy-pasting the skill-sets, and just generally have no flavor in character abilities. Then again, I've already admitted to myself that I don't care that characters get the same skill-sets. So, copy-paste it is!

I'm going to forgo the standard elements of Fire, Wind, Water and Earth in this game. I'm going to simplify things with being either physical or magical. Man, this is sounding more generic by the moment, isn't it?

Setting? I'm fed up with modern settings at this point. With things panning out so generically, I'm probably going to aim for a fantasy setting. Nah, that would be too easy! Science fiction, then? Sure, why not? I'll check out what I can do with the default tiles, but I may need an outside source for something more proper to the setting.

Generic sci-fi, Marrend style, is what I seem to be aiming for. So, instead of "magic", we got "tech". Fine. So, what kinds of games should I be looking at for inspiration? The Xenosaga series, not to mention Xenogears, was among my favorites of the sci-fi genre. As was ye olde Star Control. There's always Star Trek and Star Wars as well. Gundam? I do like me some giant robots...

Okay, sci-fi setting with giant robots. This is beginning to sound eerily like the ideas I had for Nakaishi Wars. The reason I stopped developing that was because I didn't have any sci-fi resources. Well, if I'm at all serious about this idea, I'd best get to getting them! The question is, how serious am I?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Man, maybe it's just me but if my goal were to make a short and sweet project, with the idea of not requiring much work, I would pick something I already had 100% of the resources for. Because finding, editing and occasionally creating resources is how I spend over 90% of my time.

Has it really been two years since I've joined RMN? Anyway, I've been throwing around the idea of re-making Legacy Reborn into something remotely playable. The idea has propped up on random occasions, but it usually goes nowhere. I pretty much have to start from scratch, so I should probably finish what I've got on my plate before I seriously entertain this idea.

Maybe it's me but I've realized that "finding and editing" takes way more time and effort than "creating". Even if you're not very good at it, at least your resources will be consistently crappy. xD ...It's a two-edged sword, really. Creating your own content is something always laudable, but that invisible line from 'bad' to 'acceptable' is always going to be there as well.

After reading this extra punctuation article, I decided to make a game in which the main character gets weaker as the game progresses.

Dubbed “Project Atrophy” you will start out as a balls-to-the-wall, walking engine of destruction, but as the game progresses you will have to sacrifice your skills and levels in order to progress.

While I doubt this will be hard to do how successful this will be will dependent primarily on my writing skills as without the constant golden carrot of rewards to drive the layer forward I’m going to have to really on the story to do it. Unless of course the players are crazy or really enjoy a challenge.

It's definitely you.

The next time I am working on graphics of either sort I will hook myself up to the most state-of-the-art scientific machinery and record my perspiration levels so I can verify this.
Well, it surely feels less stressing and more rewarding. I've spent ages combing snes games (even in effing japanese) just to find stuff to rip for my game, when I could just sprite exactly the things I'm looking for if only I weren't such a lazy bastard. xP ...But when I actually get myself to do something, it feels like a more focused effort, so I'm not really paying attention to how much time goes into it.

Anyway, I'm currently thinking that someone should combine E.V.O. and Terranigma into an Epic Mega Game! You know, the whole 'evolve into a badass' and 'help the world develop' trough the ages? I think that's an awesome concept... But since it's basically just 'grinding' and a bunch of 'fetch quests' I wonder how such a project could be tackled, and make it fun for today's player base.
I've been dying to do an EVO clone since like 1996
I really want to fix some things in my MGS-game to make it a more enjoyable experience for people since the difficulty seems to sometimes be a joy kill. But I'm finding it really hard to stretch some things and keep it working.
The things I've tried have just screwed up more than it's trying to fix.

I also find it more annoying to work in RPG-Maker after picking up Game Maker and other programming... So many things I wish I could use.

All right! Now that all the maps, puzzle pieces, and other extraneous stuffs are in place for the Ancient Tower, it's time to work on what all happens with the sequence at the top! Of course, there will be a boss fight at the top. I mean, why go against what anybody with any amount of RPG sense would expect? However, there's going to be other stuff happening there too.

Though, I think I might be in jeopardy of getting the player confused, and generally out-pace the player like I did in my Crash Course build of Uchioniko. As soon as I get over this "I completed something!" fever, I should be able to analyze the upcoming events with more scrutiny.
