From some old RM2k games that I stopped working on sometime in 2004-2005:

I posted this in another thread but I will repost it and remove everything that doesn't have screenshots. This also serves the dual purpose of reminding Max McGee that he said he'd COMMENT ON THIS STUFF >:O

Where did I say that, gee?

Oh wait, you mean like...a long time ago...

fuuuuck I am a assshole...

Prexus is the only guy who has made more games than me and they all look good and/or amazing.

@NewBlack:

That's not the worst title screen I've seen by far, but those RTP battlers...*wince*

This looks (edit)fucking(/edit) GREAT. Even if you did commit one of my worst English pet peeves EVAR. (Here/hear.)

I can still(sort of) remember the story for A Man Apart. It was about a 42 year old ex cop who's become a drunk suicidal staring down at his gun barrel deciding if he should just die or carry on living a miserable life. The game took place over a weeks period where he is asked to find a missing child from an old friend.

Telling himself he might have one decent thing left to do it was your job to travel through a dark demented, corrupt city looking for clues and unraveling the mystery behind the child's disappearance. Progress was actually going good, had about 2 hours gameplay and some interesting characters, but I wasn't satisfied with using the DBS so I decided to go custom battle system and later on tried custom graphics, big set pieces, etc.

Ambition basically killed it in the end. A Man Apart was going to be my film noir piece haha.
Oh god, time to raid the less-looked at folders on my backed up hard drive. Good thing I remembered to save a certain 'screenies' folder there.

The Apocalypse game that I really, really was proud of but...

Sadly, the one game I really remember being very proud of (my first foray into pictures, cms and variables) was wiped a long time ago. It looked good because I used Theodore's chips. I don't even have a screenshot, just memories... ;.; (It was for a contest on a forum where you had to depict the Apocalypse in your home town. I had it that you had to collect animals to freeze, and you could find newspapers that told you what happened/was happening. In the end you are frozen too and wake up to a wilderness where the animals you saved have gone wild and repopulated. You end up finding another human who had re-evolved. Then, the end. Not a happy story.)

3 Hour Game: 2004-5

Created for a small 3 hour contest but went a bit out of control. It had a cooking/alchemy system, three characters with three different on-map effects and a kinda sad story. Basically some kids got attacked and you needed to go into the forest and see what happened. Turns out hunters were after the Gods of the Forest (which had attacked the children and killed at least one person in each heroes' lives.) and you killed off the hunters to save the Gods (bug yeti/sasquatch type creatures). Lost it in a computer move.

All the Ponies (^.^;): 1998-2000

I couldn't think of a title at the time and had been singing nursery rhymes/lullabies to my niece so the song was stuck in my head. Basically two people want to get married and their town is destroyed whilst they're undergoing the 'Trial of Marriage'. They want to find out who did it and only have the lead of a name left on a grave. It was pretty good but I, being stupid, decided to 'update' the graphics for it (which meant changing to freaking Suikoden graphics which do not go well with Mack or Breath of Fire II rips, if you were wondering) and somehow managed to fuck up some areas so badly that I'd have to do the whole thing all over again. Sucks to be me. Also, one of the very first games made on computer - barring a Suikoden clone that got erased, an RM95 project that vanished and Even Day, my oldest game.)

Final Fantasy 7: Broken Times: 2001

The only fangame I admit to. It had a lot of work put into it story-wise, and idea-wise. Basically set about 1000 years after the meteor hit Midgar. The main character was Yindi - one of the few Gi left (the Gi were the race that attacked Cosmo Canyon). She finds a man (looking a bit like Sephiroth) outside the Gi Hearths, nurses him back to health and sets out to help him find his memory.
You meet Cloud - who had been dragged through time on the evening of his marriage to Tifa (poor Tifa) to save the Life Stream. When Hojo died he'd taken a few precautions to ensure that he wouldn't become one with the Life Stream and instead began to assert his control over it. Using a descendant of Aeris as his puppet (he'd taken samples and cloned her whilst she was in captivity), he began searching for a certain materia that he'd started to artificially grow before his death. Vincent and Cait Sith were the only other characters that made it into the game, though there was information about what happened to the others.
Barret married Tifa in the end and they worked together to build Corel back up. Yuffie ends up leader of a group of travelling gypsy-like folk and after her death becomes something of a religious leader (XD), Nanaki lives out his days happily with his children, Cid marries but ends up running off to fly a new ship model which ends up crashing, Vincent goes back to sleep, Cait Sith ends up being put aside when Reeve becomes too busy...etc)

I didn't get past the introduction.

Fila Vestina: 1999 - 2000

You are a girl who goes to a university then finds herself saving the world from something. She also had strange dreams (of the people who would join her quest).

Key: 2002-4

Three Dream Catchers go around saving people from their dreams and the mysterious Illness that plagues the land. Also, a dream world, weapon sharpening, day/night system and other stuff.

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone: 2002

Okay, I lied. There was another fangame hiding away in a folder. What was I thinking? No idea.

Utopian Dreams: 1999 - 2000

Wow, forgot about this one! Also one of the earliest tries. This one was the second one I tried on RPGmaker 2000 and it had a pretty decent demo but... no idea where it got to. You were a bounty hunter who conned a royal knight to help you rip off the king. Also, mistaken kidnappings.

Even Day : 1998-2005

I first started this game on the PSX RPGMaker, planned a lot of the story and when I finally got RM2K it was the first game I started making. I've since gone back and fixed a few issues it had - mainly slow walking, text and grammar/spelling issues. I look at it now as one of the few games I started back then that I'd admit to creating. If you want to give it a go, feel free. It's on the site.

But I did do a stupid star wars mac and blue project before that. Or, at least, an hour's worth of content. Nothing really notable. And then there's the RTP version of Carlsev - sadly the pics and download were lost when UI went down :(

This was a relatively early one:

Did some of those maps before Carlsev I was finished :O
ahhhhh what's Liam doing there? do i see an angel of exodus fangame?
oh... double post woops, but.

Ahh, here's one of my few abandoned projects...

It's also one of the few games I actually contributed art assets to. And yes, that's a Venus de Milo statue with a cylon eye. One of these days I'll make this game, I swear.

This is the coolest UI ever. Makes me wonder what it would be like if Diablo had a hand squeezing the blood globe thing whenever damage was taken.

All those maps are, for the most, as good as of now, for nearly every one, surprised!
@Tau : your "Man Apart" (I like the title) sounded interesting.

Don't ask.
An old game of mine that is now almost completely obsolete thanks to several story points from Human Revolution... dammit.

A scene from my first, and so far, only, attempt at a "cinematic" style JRPG. Note the child like emo-haired fighters, the giant sword, and sea of carnage containing what appear to be several religiously themed knights...

A larger image, from a squad based, Fallout inspired project I was working on in MMF2.

The first group of screens from a project that isn't dead, but is walkin' with a limp...

More

This last screen was from a dream project that turned into a nightmare. I wanted to make a game that looked like a moving Frazetta sketch or Verotik Comic book... the problem was I entirely overestimated my artistic ability. It was about a demi-god hero who had to rescue his wife from a monster (that happened to be gorgeous) that wanted to blackmail him into mating with her so that she could take revenge on the gods with an army of hybrids.

The mythology of the game was a combination of Native American folklore and Greek Myths, and the "monster" was a fallen angel type that was locked up in a Giger-esque style bio-mechanical helmet.

Concept art I started for her when I got my first tablet... unfortunately I haven't had a lot of practice with it yet...

Damn, converting this to a 256 color .png completely destroyed the hair effects!

I'm probably going to use some elements of the story, albeit in an entirely different style of game.

This topic actually inspired me to go back and play one of my old rm2k3 games! I was expecting it to be utterly miserably bad but it was actually only a little miserably bad. This was from before I joined RMN, and I never posted it anywhere but I had some screenshots on my hard drive from showing a friend once.

It was called "Apprentice" and it took place in a dark, low fantasy world where it's always cold, everyone is a jackass and there aren't enough cool hats to go around. It was actually somewhat similar to X-men with magic users being misunderstood outcasts and some of them fighting the establishment. The main character was kind of a somber fellow but luckily he was paired with a cool best friend who punched him if he started getting too emo. It was a pretty effective system.

I liked this area because, while you can't see it in the screenshot, there were objects in the walls the shimmered periodically and it made for a neat effect. Also, no ice-slider puzzles!

I think I had just finised Ara Fell when I made this area. Can you tell?

I'm pretty sure the religion in this universe ended up being not evil! Truly, I was pushing boundaries at the time.

Multiple posts because seriously... this might take a while as I find stuff.

Heat

A scientist, Grace, accidentally caused her time machine to overheat, throwing the world into a temporal and thermal loop. She hires some mercenaries in order to find the outburst of thermal energy (law of conservation of energy, sort of, and across time...) that parallels her time machine, and stop it.

Naturally, the fate of the world is at stake when bad guys take advantage of the power source...
