Beta 0.41 - Progress Report - Sapphire Port



Sappgire Port has been added! This blog is in a bit of a rush, but I'm just letting you guys know that the first city in Eastshore is more or less complete. I still need to add a few more quests and other things, but it's functional and comes with some more gameplay.

Beta 0.4 - Progress Report - I'm still goin


Hi everyone.

So I haven't been working on the game as much as I have done, and I apologize.

I don't really have any reason for it, holidays just hit and I've been fucking around a lot. But I'm starting to get settled again.

Anyway, here's a screenshot of Sapphire Port - the first town in Eastshore.


Other than that I've redone Wildgate to make it a bit less of an eye sore and I've polished a few things from Westland.

Beta 0.4 Released!

Finally it's here, the public release!

Not a huge amount has changed from 0.39 and this version, it's just been a bit more polished here and there. But there's no point reading about it now, you can go and see for yourself!

Alpha 0.39 - Progress Report - Next stop: Beta

So all the buildings are finished now, it's really just polish from here on. I'll be getting feedback from the alpha testers in this release because the next one is White Tower's first public release!

As for 0.39, not a huge amount has changed. Some polish here and there, the game is a bit smoother, two new quests and a companion. There is now an armour you can get exclusively from a quest. I won't spoil that one for you ;)



The player can kind of meet the King now. They more just see the King of Westland or 'Westking' as his official title goes knighting Alyn - the most recent companion you can get.

He's the second companion that isn't from the usual classes the player can choose on creation. He is a Knight, who is basically a warrior with more skills and on steroids. Useful guy to have around.

The game is basically releas worthy now, but I just want to check everything one last time before I finish it. Get excited!

Alpha 0.38 - Progress Report - The final touches begin...

So Alpha 0.38 isn't a gigantic change from 0.37, however some features have been added that I'm quite happy with.

First of all, the main menu has been made to look nicer and include a credits button (PLEASE check the credits when you play, so many people's work went into this game and they really deserve some love).



As well as that I have added two handed weapons for those of you who like to play melee classes but dont want to be the shield of the party. Enchantment support was added for those as well, so they're ready to go.



Music has also been added, I've replaced the soundtrack with songs from Oldschool Runescape since I personally like the style of music and it has hundreds of songs to choose from.

Among those there have been smaller changes, another quest was added for the Northern Barrens which adds some story for that part of the world but that's about it, among some bug fixes here and there.

Alpha 0.37 - Progress Report - Lord's Gate Improvement

This is a smaller update compared to some, but it has brought us closer to the beta release. In this update I added 2 new quests, one is the first in the House of Arcane storyline (the first proper storyline in the game which will have an actual effect on the game) and a small low level quest for the new guys.

I have also made some more interesting mechanics, for example when you're fighting a Minotaur in one of the new quests instead of just running in and killing it like usual, you can choose to respect it's own traditions in order to fight it, since in this quest it hasn't done anything wrong. You will also not kill it if you chose to challenge it within it's own way.





The player is also able to now buy new spells AND get their staff enchanted, which gives mages a little more excitement since their enchantments are far better than the standard ones, considering they are supposed to be masters with Arcane.



Beta 0.4 is around the corner, I have more quests to add but soon enough I will release a public build.

Announcement - Looking for Alpha Testers

So I think with the beta release coming soon, I figured I should get more alpha testers other than a friend every now and then who can spare the time to play around.

If anyone is willing to give the game a proper playthrough, give proper criticism where needed and ideas as to how I can improve I would really appreciate that.

I have recently created a discord I was intending to keep around and get some discussion going on. Anyone can join, it isn't just for Alpha Testers

Alpha 0.36 - Progress Report - Enchanted Weapons.

So the main feature of this update is the new enchantment system in Lord's Gate.
The idea that Lord's Gate is the "Magic Central" of Westland needed to be emphasized a lot, even to the players who don't play with magic. So now they can go to Lord's Gate to get a bit of magic for themselves and enchant their weapon with the power of either Ice, Thunder or Fire.

You can also name your weapons you enchant, but you can only get a limited amount of enchantments so choose wisely!

The reason you can only get limited enchantments is I do not yet know how to make the game automatically create the weapon with the correct stats, name and description. So I have to make each weapon variant beforehand, which was annoying enough to do once.



In other news, a few quests have been added. Lord's Gate has 2 buildings in total, the House of Arcane and the weapons shop where you get enchantments.



That's all so far, but the game is very close to being finished! A few quests are needed here and there to make the game a tad more fluid and there are a few rough edges but the game has definitely come a long way.

Alpha 0.35 - Progress Report - Small but exciting features

First of all, Stonewall is now completely finished. It has a small but fun questline for people to play in. I plan to develop a lot of questlines further as the game goes on, even when I'm developing outside of Westland.



The first feature I want to show is the quest log. This is a simple but really nice addition to have. (Credit to Galv - link to plugin is here).

I just created the logs for all of the quests, but I plan to revisit a few as for the first while I was kinda just figuring out how the plugin worked.



I have also added a tutorial, as a few people tested this and found they didn't know what to do.



Lord's gate is first on the list now! One more town and I can release a public build.

Alpha 0.34 - Progress Report - Polish and quests!

So the part that I'm most excited about is the new images that show up when you create a character. I'm considering adding images such as this to other moments when the screen would otherwise go black...

Character creation was once just a black screen with text showing up saying "What class are you?" or something like that.

Now it looks like this:

While it's a fairly small addition in terms of technical achievement, it's still a great addition and really makes character creation 10x more interesting.

I have also improved the animation for SOME skills, I may have missed some which I will fix over time, but the solution for the issue which showed characters doing what looked like a magical spell when they were doing "Double Strike" has been found and has been implemented so that characters will instead show their weapon when they attack, not magical effects.

Three quests have been completed in 0.34! Stonewall is now officially COMPLETE!
Hawkpeak has still got a few bugs that need polishing (mostly in the Arena) but that it's 100% functional and works fine. I have also added a low level quest to Borderguard as it seemed to be difficult to get into the fun quests at the start before.

Next on the list will be completing Borderguard (The general shop and the magic shop are not finished), polishing the Hawkpeak Arena, creating Gryphon's Keep (The Royal Palace of Westland) and creating Lord's Gate - the last city!
