A blog for self-reminder

Hi everyone, this is shydoge making a self reminder for what's going to be fixed and what's not with the next update, before I forgot about it.
(Expect an update next week or so.)

*12/3/2019 the game is updated! :3

Bug fixed:
-Fixed a missing tile that allowed players to skip...well, almost everything and head to the final zone.
-Five finger discount seems to be a script conflict and therefore currently disabled as I need consultation from Stormcrow to fix it. I suck at scripts :<
-Stireholm world map tile has been fixed to allow players to walk around the town.

Fix pending:
-Horrible English and grammar. I'll keep you guys updated on that one.
-Actor picture error when talking to the old man in the inn.

List of (Dumb) Jokes and References (FIRST HALF)

Dunno why I felt like writing this, but I did!

Here are the various sly and not so sly references and inside jokes I embedded in the first half of When You Were Young along with some random miscellaneous trivia. JustAShyDoge could do the same thing for the second half if he feels like it and when he gets a chance.

  • Ralph's father (uses the VXA sprite of Eric) is named after the default protagonist from the RM2k-RM2k3 era, Alex. I wanted to have one generation of RTP protagonist be the literal father of the next. His last name, Zander, is a stupid joke on his first name (Alexander har har).
  • Ulrika's mother is named Mrs. Jonsson because Ulrika Jonsson is a real (Swedish) person (and I confess the first thing that comes up when you Google 'Ulrika').
  • Elmer is named after the purple haired thief character in the RMVX starting database because tragically there was no default character using the green haired guy's faceset, and because the unofficial name for him, "Greenie", isn't very name-y. But I wanted him to be named after an RTP thief: hence, Elmer. His personality and backstory by the way come from the description of the default VXA character Rick.
  • Caroline's name is derived from Carol, the RM2k/2k3 character she is clearly based on/a continuation of.
  • One of Caroline's epithets, Black Sorceress Ultimaetia, is a pretty obvious FF8 shout out. Ultimecia...Ultimaetia.
  • Caroline's other epithet, "Graceful Nightmare", comes from the in-editor Nickname of the default RMVXA character Isabelle that I borrowed her backstory from.
  • While obviously a reference to the crystals that are ubiquitous amongst Final Fantasy games and Final Fantasy-alikes, Crystallia is actually named after the hyper-expensive champagne that rappers like to randomly shout the name of, CRISTAL! While Crystallia is pronounced like you'd expect, King Crystall's name is pronounced like the name of the drink (the way rappers say it). That means that his name sounds nothing like King Crystal and might be phonetically rendered best as King Cristahl, with ALL the evidence on that last syllable. I have no idea why the crystal in the middle of Crystallia castle is important or what it does.
  • King Crystall XIX is the 19th of his name because the number 19 is a recurring motif throughout my work.   • Noah is the only character from VXA's default database that made it through into the game completely intact (as a major character, anyway). Nothing was changed about his name, class, skills, OR backstory (unless Doge made changes after the handoff).
  • Angel the dog is a reference to Rinoa's canine "partner", Angelo, in FF8.
  • Verdammt is just the German word for "damned". It works two ways, it can be melodramatic and ominous, i.e. "Empire of the Damned", or if you interpret it the other way, very funny, as any time they are referred to the speaker is saying "the damned Empire" the same way they might say "the Goddamned Empire" or "the stupid Empire" or "the fucking Empire". Inspiration for using this word came from the Orchestra Verdammt in Umbrella Academy Volume 1.
  • Delamort comes very indirectly from the game Soul Blazer. When Soul Blazer was released in Japan, you were explicitly an agent of "God" and your ultimate enemy was "Satan". The American release bowdlerized this to "The Master" and "Deathtoll" respectively. I google translated Deathtoll into numerous languages in search of pleasing syllables, and found the French for "Count Of The Dead". The "of the dead" part, all crammed together into one word and with the French e on the end dropped, comes out Delamort.
  • Port Wistful is inspired by the starting town in another Enix game, Illusion of Gaia in terms of layout, look, and feel.
  • Noah's home, Mount Nanaki is named after Red XIII from FFVII as a nod to the fact that Noah is (as I think Libby pointed out in the stream) essentially Bugenhagen. Although all of his parallels with the Biblical Noah (he is gifted with knowledge, he tries to get people to listen to him, but he is ignored, then terrible things happen to the people who ignored him through no fault of his own but an outside agency, pretty much maps exactly to Noah and the Flood) complicate things, even though they were total accidents one and all.
  • High Priest Starfield's name is an oblique reference to another moniker of Archeia_Nessiah whom I fangirl.
  • "as foretold in the prophecies of Archeia" is a much less subtle reference to same.
  • Except the few places where they were official, the names Maria (cameo), Cid, Trence (cameo), Satiel, and Halbarad (passing mention), and the names (and in some cases the essential characters) of Bennett, Terrence, Mira, Lark, Vera, Alice, and Noel all were found on Nessy's site.If not for this self-imposed limitation of matching RTP faces to the most official names I could find whenever possible, I never would have written a story with characters named Noah and Noel or Terrence and Trence because it's way too confusing.
  • Obviously, or I think obviously, this game's focus was directed around the results of the "which RTP characters are your favorite" thread I made a month or whatever ago. Not many people voted but the most votes went to Caroline by a fair margin. Satiel's initial appearance in the game is because he also received a fair few votes.

1/10/2018 update

A new bug fix version will arrive as soon after Liberty finished livestream the game.(Again, thank you, thank you so much for willing to livestream our game!)

The current fixed bug, not yet uploaded:
-Finally found and fixed the missing x4 bug during the cave dungeon.
-Fixed Elmer's face portrait when talking to old man in Crystallia Pub.
-Heal and Lay on Hands will now have a new description to tell the players where is the difference to avoid confusion. (The heal has slightly higher hp heal and lower mana cost) Note: Lay on Hands is still removed when Ulrika grows up.

28/9/2018 Blog

This version is released 28/9/2018 around 5-6pm
(For asia its the same date. It was midnight while I released this game.)

And may get another update depending if Ralph deserves his dual-wield.
Ralph keeps his dual-wield, a true berserker needs no shield!

This version fixes:
--Map--
-The cave under Crystallia now have an average encounter step of 30 instead of 25.(Sorry StormCrow :( )
-Elunia World Tree now have an average encounter steps of 55 instead of 45.
-Elunia World Tree now has Yellow Circle(Teleport outside dungeon)
-Added tossable beer to Port Wistful. Come visit it again!
-A horrible bug that teleport players back to Elmsberry is still on the loose! I think. As such, the path to Elmsberry wood when you are a grown up is currently disabled. (I checked all events in Elunia World Tree, I can't find it XC)

--Skills--
-Elmer not getting the skill, Intimidate, despite saying "He unlocked it".
-Elmer's Quick Raise is now special and usable(It was magic by default and Elmer had no magic slot)
-Magic Reflect now lasts 2 turns. (Increase mana cost from 10 to 30) 1 turn CD removed CD.
-Darkness now have 1 turn CD.
-Nuclear now have 1 turn CD.
-Flare now have 65% instead of 50% chance to success blinding enemies.
-Potion Throwing now base heals 1500 instead of 2000.
-Paralyze Breath(by Ceberus)Now only affects 1 enemy, but increase chance from 50% to 55%, cd decreased from 2 to 1.


--Bosses--
-After much consideration and complains from the Earth Fairy how players constantly deep sleep her to death, her chance of deep sleep remains unchanged, tweaked 70->80 AGI. Have fun dream eaters!
-Bosses AOE skill should now have 1 turn cd to prevent spamming AOE spells.
-Final boss now have Burst, Shade and Saint(all are single target spells) to compensate higher requirements to use AOE spells(lower hp and cd)
-Satiel will now cast Morpheus on final boss 1 turn earlier, 5->4. (5 repeat per turn remains unchanged.)

--Items--
-Elmsberry forest treasure chest gives Spear instead of Cestus.
-Fixed treasure chest in cave that gives x2 emptiness.
-I can't seem to find the x4 emptiness coelocanth addressed, could it be a chance due to steal from soldiers? (The weapon and armor stole is random). Fixed to steal Iron plate and Partisan to see if it's fixed.

--Enemies--
-Pit Fiend now has a chance to drop items instead of none.

Edited: The download now includes non-encrypted files and no longer a matryoshka doll.( I thought it could save more space if zipped :( ) Have fun see how the events works, or cheat your way. Please follow/respect the creator's wish to NOT use the Tragedy tileset in other games. Thank you.

When you were Young, A game made by StormCrow and destroyed completed by ShyDoge is now available!

Hi, this is ShyDoge here,

-Why is the download file so huge for VX ACE &%^&#^!?

The reason the file is so huge is because I included RTP files, all of them. I don't want to risk "missing game data _____" and end up a broken game ._.

Dev version?
-This download is specifically for StormCrow only!
(I have yet to ask permission from him/her to allow non-encrypted format.)

Still known bugs I can't fix/forgotten :(
- Escape will continue to continue escaping until all allies are dead/successfully escaped.
- On rare occasion, if Ralph(main actor) is dead, you can't choose to escape.
- The merchant at Verdammnt city was suppose to sell pills (Those broken stat pills), but I forgot to include them...I guess its ok to not include them anyway..

Game patch note (The fun part for people who love reading)
The following changes are applied in-game as of 28/9/2018.
-Fixed a problem where event pathing issues would occur when shift is pressed.
-Adjusted some enemies stat to be easier(Elunia, the jungle) and harder(Verdammnt Castle)
-Added Rage potion to in-game store(Originally not included in game)
-Revamp "Vanish" to give AGI, CRI and decrease Target rate to all allies instead of escape, because you could even escape bosses.
-Nerfed Vanish by increasing TP (The default vanish allowed Elmer to 4 hits in a turn so...unlimited vanish cast.)
-Added stimulant to Elunia shops.
-Added hint circles to prevent players getting lost in the large-many-unused part of the world map.
-Reduced all Satiel's skills mana cost by a margin of 20mp.
-Further increased chance of deep sleep(Satiel's skills), cause failed isn't fun for anyone when that skill is specifically used to sleep enemies!
-Added credit roll
-re-added kids on dog when going to diamond beach. (yes, I removed it then readded, so its not a bug but a feature now)
-Fixed a horrible mistake of making final boss and Semi-finale boss hp to 1 *facepalm*
-Enhanced berserk to be more "op"
