We spirits are curious things, Zero. We all have a purpose to fulfill, and each of us represents something. And I hope you can figure out what you represent, too. Guess you can figure that out while you're off putting the whole world back together.

Soma Union is a galaxy-spanning RPG that returns to the world of Soma! ...or so it would, if your planet had not been destroyed in a great calamity. As you roam through the cosmos to find the missing fragments of your home world, you'll meet a colorful cast of characters and make important choices that may not be as clear as they seem.

Look forward to the following features!

  • Embark on a galaxy-spanning quest to put your home world back together again, because this planet can't seem to catch a break, apparently.
  • Role system that changes your characters' roles in battle: Fight your enemies with the damage-dealing Power role, or enhance other party members' abilities with the Support role!
  • Unleash powerful Spirit abilities regardless of your current role to turn the tide of battle!
  • Collect valuable Power Gems to skip enemy encounters with the push of a button... or tough it out and exchange them for rare prizes!
  • Fully custom visuals. And a stellar soundtrack by SpecialAgentApe
  • 10+ hours of good ol' son-of-a-gun RPG gameplay.
  • Funny* jokes. The heehees and the hawhaws.

Zero is a spirit living aboard the Starship Virtue. They are a shy and reluctant spirit who doesn't cause too much trouble around the ship and is usually seen doing odd jobs. Unlike the other spirits on the Virtue who all represent an emotion or an aspect, Zero is not quite sure what they are the spirit of. Given the right task, say putting Soma back together for instance, Zero might be inclined to discover that for themself.

Reca is a spry and energetic acorn residing in the Garden Dome aboard the Starship Virtue. Hoping to become the new protector of Soma's forests once it is restored, she is always seen working hard and taking charge around the ship. It might take a few good friends to keep her ambitions in check, though.

Lumen is the chief doctor and a valuable source of information aboard the Virtue, when he's in the mood to fit the job. Not quite satisfied with his life's path, Lumen might not always seem like the most pleasant person to talk to. It takes a fair amount of trust for him to open up, and perhaps there is more to him than he is willing to let on.

Soma Union is complete as of August 2021 and is now available as a free download! We hope you'll enjoy this passion project. And hey, let us know what you think of it!

Soma Union v1.0.8 update: Font Fix

Hello all!

Soma Union has been updated to v1.0.8. Due to reports of crashes likely caused by font rendering, the game's font has been replaced with a new font that should help alleviate this problem. This change will also help the game run a bit more smoothly overall.

If you have experienced random crashes with Soma Union, it is strongly advised that you update to v1.0.8. Otherwise, this update is optional.

Version v1.0.7 will still be available to download for players who prefer the old font style and have not experienced any crashes. Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns!

I have a question.

Can Absolution be good, or is it incapable of it? I know that its powers can be used for good, but what of Absolution itself?

Also, have you dusted off your old Ko-Fi account yet? :)

Hello

I don't have a answer for this one! Perhaps people will come up with theories though :)

If you'd like to donate to my ko-fi, you can do so here: ko-fi.com/sgt_m . Please only give if you feel it is worth it and are able: I know times are tough right now for everyone!

I'm still in the process of updating it, so please excuse it's barebones appearance lol.
This was really fun to play, and a lovely sequel to Soma Spirits. Thanks for making it.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing :)
Hello just wanted to say I beat the game and I wanted to say a few things
1. The game was very nice I give it an 8 out of 10 it would have been a 9 out of ten but i ran into a few issues namly.
2 In the 2ed part of soma in the part with the robots there was a puzzle with rotating L's in the first room of the area anyway there was no reset point and i ended up missing one of the crystal things that give you items after the boss since i ended up having no way to go back.
3.Stardust could have been more useful yeah the chart was a cool idea but the rewards could have been better but namely, I wish there had been something to use stardust on after the chart was done since I ended the game with a good amount of it.
Maybe next time think of maybe a store that sells maybe super rare items like stat boosts or elixer like items for stardust. or after unlocking all upgrades a new chart is unlocked with more unlocks or something:)
Sorry not trying to be rude but i just kind of feel like stardust was a last-minute idea added to the game or something
but overall a very fun RPG :)
Hey! Thank you so much for finishing the whole game. I appreciate the feedback, and it's all very helpful.

I'll definitely check that missable Power Gem. The puzzle should reset when you go back up to the previous floor, but there could be some intricacy about it that I missed.

I definitely hear you on the Stardust problem. I've gotten quite a few comments that the whole system felt tacked on, and I agree that more could've been done with it. The whole Star Chart system was ported over from my previous cancelled project Crescent Prism, but I probably could have done more to make it more worthwhile. Though I guess it's good that I ended up with something not useful enough rather than something -too- useful and game-breaking, lol. Either way, I'll keep it in mind for future projects.

Thanks again! I'm glad that the game was an overall positive experience.
OK thanks the power gem is not a huge deal and maybe it's just my game? if you want my game files i will get you them if that would help.
and yeah to be clear I do like the idea of the star chart and stardust idea.

also, I'm wondering do you know if this was the last soma game? since I see some planet exploring potential for a third game if there is one :)

Right now, I don't imagine there will be a third Soma Spirits game since I think they work well enough as a duology. At least not a mainline one: I wouldn't be opposed to doing some sort of spin-off or side game sometime down the road, time permitting! But it may be quite a while before that could be a possibility.

I'm glad to hear people enjoy this world enough to want to see more of it though, and it means a lot!

Congratulations on GotY, Sgt M!
This game looks is fantastic and I can say that if you don't give it a play, you will miss a fantastic experience. I'm at 7 hours play time and the game is definitely a masterpiece - it's one of the top 3 RPG Maker games I've ever played. Got a featured game? Deserved! Got a misao for game of the year? Definetely deserved! I'm just happy every evening when I get home and can play this game. REALLY good job.

That really means a lot to hear! Thank you so much :) It still blows my mind that something I made was enjoyable to someone. I'm really glad I could make a difference for the people who play them.

Kirby + Earthbound = This.

"Kirby Earthbound" is a pretty good descriptor for it, haha. Considering both of these series have been pretty huge influences on my graphical style over the years.
Thank you so much for the best RPG Maker Game (probably the best game at all) I've ever played! Here's my end stats. I had such a good time with Soma Union. Leaves me speechless, as this game is nothing but FANTASTIC!

Graphics - FANTASTIC
Level Design - FANTASTIC
Battles - FANTASTIC
Story - FANTASTIC

There's just a single word to describe this game: FANTASTIC!

If you don't play this you'll probably miss the best 20+ hours you'll ever spend with a RPG.

Let's increase the maximum number of stars for a review to 6 to do this game justice.

I finally went around to finishing this. I thought I was semi close, but turns out I was only HALFWAY when I stopped.

I will write a review sometime in future, but I just wanted to drop a quick comment.

Game was VERY good. The storytelling was more mature this time around. Not in a grim dark way or anything, but in a patient and well thought out way. (not that the prior works were immature or anything) I loved the themes of it and kicked myself for not figuring out a lot of the twists before they happened. Great work, Extremely deserving of the misao(s).
Thank you both! (Sorry I haven't checked in on this page in a while lol). Really happy to hear that the game was enjoyable.

Would you believe the original plan was a 3-5 hour game? Turns out I needed at least double of that to fit all the story I wanted to cover lol.
I played through this last week. The first couple of chapters weren't quite grabbing me, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The story picked up a lot around the end of chapter 2, and that was also when the enemies really started baring their teeth. I never actually got a game over, but every boss from that point on, and even some of the random monsters, were tough enough to make for tense and fun fights and make me use a variety of skills and strategies. Dungeon design was generally very good throughout, and of course the art and music were really cool, too. Overall, it was an excellent game!
Hey! Glad you enjoyed the game! :)

Yeah, I think it was around the time I started developing Chapter 3 that I felt the game really coming into itself. I'm glad the buildup paid off, and it's good to hear that fights had an invigorating challenge level!

Thank you so much for playing!
