Kabooom!

The evil Dr. Psyko threatens to conquer the world with his army of robots and soldiers, and only one man can stop him: Luke Daimont!
Luke is a badass.
Luke wears a cool leather jacket and sunglasses, drives a motorbike and wields a big gun.
That's all you need to know about Luke.

Luke Daimont: Absolute Mayhem is an entry (by Beregon) on the last contest that was also the first about Rpgmaker MZ. And this particular entry was one of my favourites.

It's no surprise that we play as Luke Daimont, the badass action hero, the surprising part is that this is not an rpg game but an action game... for the most part!

BRATTT! Full auto attack, let's hope someone will be hit... in any case these soldiers won't worry Luke at all!

I'll explain: the game is a sort of run-and-gun in which you have to jump from a platform to the other and shoot enemies before they touch you. IF they touch you the real jrpg combat starts (and then they can damage Luke). Luke has two attacks only: burst fire that is a eries of multiple attacks that have a 50% probability to be successful, and snipe, that is a single attack that never misses.

As expected Luke is a one man army: grunt soldiers, agents and robots can just scratch him (action movie style!) but after some combats it will be necessary to use a medikit (that are collected on the various levels but can also be bought in exchange for score points..well I never needed to do that!)

The game, like the old action videogames, also includes a motorbike driving minigame and a couple of bossfights. These fits perfectly the genre and are slightly harder than the rest of the game, that is quite easy. And that's exactly what you can expect from playing an action movie hero! The importante is not just finishing the game, but doing that with a high score. No, wait with the highest score!

There are also some awesome moments during the game like the elevator part, the final combat with Dr. Psyko (that is a pushover like every evil mastermind!). and the ending. I found zero problems (and I noticed no typos) with the game except maybe an error after the final combat that says that "the clown" (another boss).
The game autosaves after each level so don't worry too much, just play and have fun.

Luke Daimont is here! The soldiers have no hope...it's road rash time!

Verdict
Was this really made with MZ eith only Rtp (that are really perfect for the genre and the action movie setting of the game)? Well yes, it was and I am really amazed by the final result. This isn't a serious game at all but it is professionally made, I liked the layout of the levels and the reference to '80s movies and old action videogames (like when I was killed by the Clown and then revived like in the old glorious Coin-op games).
There's not much else to say, except that this is a clearly original and well done game, one of the best of the contest. My only gripe is that I probably did not see every opponent since I use to snipe the enemies from afar (close combat is the only way to be damaged by the enemies).

This little gem gets a 4/5, and I am hoping for the return of Luke Daimont someday.
He was badass!

Yeah the concept was cool, the graphics choice was perfect, I only feared for the gameplay due to the fact that usually Rpgmaker does not handle action games and sections well... but no, it was enjoyable and not too difficult!

Hmmmm... I am undecided between the mountains and the base with the cacti and the Clown at the end.

Yep, I agree, Mountains just works great and Laboratory was a fun experiment that ended up working rather well!

Clown ended up being a bit easier then I intended, but frankly, I am amazed that boss fight works as well as it does :D

As for that "Clown Boss Defeated" text... yeah, I copied the Clown boss victory event, made sure there's no bug in traansfer etc. but I skipped through the text :D Oh well, if the game has to have a bug, atleast it's just a wrong boss name being shown in one text box :D
