Another adventure in the lands of Traventor. And another fun game.

Hello.
Welcome back to the world of Traventor. Yes, like some other games I played like Alchemistress Vivi and Succubus Shop the game takes place in this little realm... oh yes I say that this is a cute little fantasy world since you are expected to meet many old friends, if you played one or more of the previous games.

But each game has a different protagonist, and this game makes no exception: after helping the alchemistress and the succubus, this time I will have to support a harpy in her personal adventure!
Lidia is the young harpy that is tasked to find the Crystal Light that will save the harpies, since their floating island is doomed to fall from the sky if the Notos Aetifact won't be recharged. The problem is that the Crystal Light was stole by the dwarves, and also the other races are not too fond of harpies, so it will be a dangerous quest...

Ok, now more or less Alchemistress Vivi, this is a linear adventure where the progress is unlocked passing some levels of a game, that in Vivi's adventure was a sort of Mastermind with potions.

Here instead the game is a sort of mix between Tetris and a match-four puzzle... ok just like Dr. Mario: blocks formed of two colors fall from the sky and when four or more of the same color are adiacent they disappear. You get more points if they are more than four and I guess there are also some little bonus when you create chains. There are three different modes of play: Story Mode, Quick Game and Solo Mode.
.

Metin! Are you back? Oh I knew you were a bad guy!!!

Story Mode is exactly like Alchemistress Vivi: you have a linear story and you unlock different chapters defeating opponents and winning challenges (world is pretty terrible for a harpy, everyone wants to rob/kill/capture/eat you!). Duels remind to me those versus modes where the blocks that are eliminated are sent to the opponent, the problem is that these blocks are purple and not of the four colors, and they disappear only then you make adiacent blocks disappear. This means that they can effectively ruin your strategy to make a great combo (luckily this also can happen to your opponent, of course)... this is why it's important being fast!
I admit I did not see a great difference of skill between the different opponents, I was able to defeat some on my first try and others on my third, sometimes I won easily, others I had to struggle... it's often a matter also of luck, but you need some skill.

Instead you need a lot of skill (but luck is helpful too!) during he challenges: here you have to score a certain number of points in a limited series of turns. I don't know but I found these parts harder than the duels, anyway with some luck and a bit of skill (you always know the TWO next tiles) I was able to prevail, even if the last challenge took me several tries... but I did it!
The story took me 1 hour to finish, and doing so lets you also unlock some wallpapers in the gallery.

Then there are two single modes (that can be seen as a way to train and "git gud" for the Story Mode): the Quick Game is a single duel against a random opponent, the Solo Mode is instead a sort of challenge without the challenge: you just select a turn limit and try to make the best score possible!

Where there is Metin, there is also Alchemistress Vivi! Oh no, it seems she is winning!

Final Verdict
Ok, I have listed the three mode of plays, the presence of the unlockable gallery, what else? Oh the game, like the previous installments I played that were set in the world of Traventor all used Rtp, and this is no difference. It's not a bad choice since it fits the style and makes the old characters immediately recognizable.

Like in Alchemistress Vivi there are some animations and effects during the adventure (for example rain and flying birds), but I do not mind this simplicity since the main focus is the GAME itself! And we do not need other distractions, even if I like how this adventure nicely fits the established background and setting.

Ok, let me see what I said on Alchemistress Vivi review: "The story is simple but merges well with the rest of the game, and I think every player will play it just to see the ending once (that is a bit short, and I admit I expected a little more, anyway this is clearly not the kind of game you play for the story!). Ifound no issues, bugs or typos, my rating is 4/5. A simple and short but good and very polished game".

See? The same also applies here, clearly it's a different kind of game, more frenetic and different but the concept is more or less the same. While I usually prefer more complex and longer games (like Succubus Shop) this has its place and it's also something you rarely find when you browse the RPG Maker VX Ace games so... another good and interesting entry, no doubt!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, Addict. I appreciate it and I'm happy that you seem to like my Traventor world. I do my best to make sure that all my games are recognizable and play completely differently, even though they're all set in the same universe.

A rating of 4/5 stars shows me that I accomplished everything I wanted to with this game, and that's great.

Hint: If you normally prefer more complex and longer games, Castle Warfare and Port Traventor is for you. :) These games are considered my "core" games. The whole world of Traventor is centered around them.

Heya! I will surely try these someday, anyway it's not a problem, I like alternating long on more complex game to some small and simple but clever ideas like this one. I mean, it's like Alchemistress Vivi but at the same time it's a totally different game, and I think that these side projects are still worth of time since they may appeal players that prefer shorter and simpler games, not the usual jrpg with four party members and ATB combat. I also fund these plesant to play, the difficulty is well balanced since I always manage to finish them, but not without efforts or various tries!
