Story
Welcome to the world of Cast Aside.

You'll play the role of a young girl with a dull future ahead of her. A kitchen assistant and foster-daughter to the island's most powerful Luminary, you wonder if your life is really worth living... How will her life unfold? You'll need to play to find out!

Cast Aside is an episodic game where your Save File will transfer from one episode to the next. Released long ago, Cast Aside has seen a lot of work since then.

Characters

Rayne: The main character, Rayne struggles in her everyday life. Living with the legacy of parents who bailed out of debt and left her behind, she feels she needs to make up for their sins and her foster-parents kindness by being what they want.

Kael: A childhood friend of Rayne, Kael is a spirited youth with a seeming gift for the spear and combat training.

Gameplay
Cast Aside is a story heavy game with a lot of puzzles. Combat is based on an Active Tactical System and will sometimes integrate the terrain and puzzles into combat.

Cast Aside introduces several new features with it's custom ATBS including attribute values on the map that can be used to entirely change the flow of combat, from increasing the range of attacks, to making them hit more targets, to causing an increase in regen or attack to the user.

New Facesets

Started work on some new faces:

I have a hard time simplifying things. Sticking with ver 3 for all facesets.

This is...just......incredible. I've been working with RPG maker XP for the past month or so, and I had never thought that anything like this would be possible. I have a lot of questions, but I'll pick through the project first. This is...really...really good.
i like this game... wish that this will be completed. i'm so excited.
I like this game too. Anyone knows whether there is a schedule for when CA episode 3 will be out ?

Yaoumei makes the art for all your games! He's brilliant! Maybe I should get my dad helping me...

Just began playing Cast Aside. In the first 15 minutes I'm already seeing some of the best features from puzzles, tactics, dialogue. Specific props to the dialogue as it has the feel of a real conversation and not just typical rpg fare.

Keep working on this! It's fresh!

I have a question, would you complete this game?
That's a really hard question to answer.

Would I like to complete this game? Yes. It's perhaps my favorite.

So why haven't we?
1. RPG Maker XP is old and painful to work in - I liked the map editor, but a lot of other parts were really annoying and frankly I don't know if I have my keys for it anymore : )

2. We boxed ourselves in! The last puzzle I came up with was my favorite (the mine and the battle) and I got stuck for months building the next big puzzle and realizing I wasn't making anything fun or challenging, just tedious. The artist kept hitting a brick wall when trying to get a unified style for the characters we both liked too. There are like 6 or more revisions for the faces and we weren't happy with the last either.

3. Other projects have become a higher priority. I like the story best in this game to be honest, but we're in the middle of another major project which is taking all our time and is a ton of work. I'd like to remake Cast Aside some day, but it's going to be a long time in coming.

TL/DR - The short answer is: No, we're probably not going to finish this. And that makes us very sad.
it says Completed...

@kentona: story wise it's not complete, but technically it's complete :P

@Anaryu: well that's a shame, the concept was great and the puzzles are not mindless push the block for no reason.

But quality come with a lot of frustration, I tried to make 1 single meaningful puzzle and I was thinking and designing for a month also I was partially successful thinking to do the same thing for the next dungeon frightened me :P.

I also loved the mine and battle puzzles. specially the mine puzzle, I can imagine how much time you redesigned it and I greatly appreciate the work. making puzzles is one thing but making them meaningful is another matter.

Anyway it's your forth game that I played and enjoyed a lot thank you :).
Well I guess I go Anaryu games spree and play all of your games.

Edit: oh also I think the freeze only happen in the first battle because of lightning effect.
@Kentona: Maybe, but it was episodic too, and obviously not completed (and some blogs were about next revisions) - makes sense he was confused!

@meisam: I really do love this project and want to revisit it eventually. Sadly the scope of having a huge party and a bunch of tactical combat also means the amount of resources necessary to make it is much higher than normal. Glad you're enjoying the games!
Hi, I've played this for some time and enjoyed it quite a bit. :D
However, I'm having problems with the game.
Reached the 3rd battle, but the game freezes during the battle, and after restarting a few times, even if I defeat the 2 sailors (without freezing), this error message appears when the trio starts running away:

Scrip 'Game_Character 2' line 186: NoMethodError occurred.
undefined method 'list' for nil:NilClass

Is there any solution to the problem? :x

This creator makes some amazing games ive played a few tho sadly Boutalles was one of them...
i was just about to play this and find out the story was not finished
a bummer :/
with that one exception of what ive tried
anything made by this creator is bound to be good!

so sadness and disappointment wallow : (
//
ive not played it but with those line errors sometimes the cause is ? and you can get by it with multiple tries
others its consecutive and something the maker needs to fix in game
line refers to the engine script
(not in game stuff its in the creator)
i don't make games but ive a general idea how some things work
@Hanako-chan: Hm, I couldn't get this to repeat, can you send me the save file so I can try?

@shayoko: This was intended to be a really long game, we're looking at maybe doing it in a newer editor again, sorry this one isn't complete, but the puzzles are worth a play-through if you're interested! Sorry you didn't like Boutalles, it has a really steep learning curve that isn't much fun to overcome; definitely a lesson learned.
Too bad, you should've completed this! ;)

@Hanako-chin: as I said before, it's probably because of lightning effect, I didn't find any solution but it's mostly random so try it again.
Patience and dedication is OP.
I didn't know what to do at the beginning of the game? Halp please?
Depends on what part of the beginning? Right at the start it should give direction, but I'd talk to the characters if you're not sure.

The section after that just explore and you'll find where to go (aren't many directions to go.)
Help please?
Every time I open the game it says 'RGSS102E.dll could not be found'
I tried re-downloading it twice but the results are still the same.
Probably a bit late for the original poster, but if they or anyone else are looking: to play some, or possibly any, of these games, you need to have downloaded the RPG Maker "Run Time Package". It contains a load of standard stock graphics, sound files, etc. so that they don't have to be included in each individual game download - you only have to download the RTP once. RGSS102E.dll is one of the things that's in it. The download can be found here: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages

I know this because I spent ages myself the other day searching all over the place trying to work out what was going on. I do think this should be explained more prominently on the "New to RMN?" page - say, under "Interested in playing games?" I think it is mentioned there somewhere, but not anywhere obvious - "not anywhere obvious" to the extent that I now can't find it again!
