The tales passed down since the dawn of the Golden Age speak of this place, the world that the mortals called home. Many branches of this lore speak of its death and rebirth that was sparked by the rise and fall of the deities that held sovereignty over it. And although the inevitability of death that comes with the blessing of life is spared on no living being, there were those who sought immortality through their acts that they, with their imperfect vision, saw as the will of the Divine.

For the sake of one mortal who was not born of this world, those who inhabit the kingdom of Zilmurik must speak to him and settle the inquiries this youth presents. Open your ears to the words of these spirits, and embrace these Tales from Zilmurik.

I implore you to listen carefully to how the acts of these individuals were sparked by their innermost desires, fueled by deep-seated flaws, and how the path of decay and rebirth that followed was born of their own limited perception.

Tales from Zilmurik: Collector's Edition

As further progress is made to the final revision of Tales from Zilmurik, a realization was struck: what should become of the original 2K versions of 2009 and 2011? Should they be removed from history, or should they be combined into a single download under a new name to allow me the freedom to overwrite the main download when the new version is completed? I decided on the latter.

I'm proud to announce that the Tales from Zilmurik: Collector's Edition is now live. This release contains both of the older versions of the game (its origin and the revision) in one handy download. If that wasn't already enough, look forward to the GOLD release of the Collector's Edition that will contain history concerning the development of both versions and some insight into the lore of the world, with all spoilers intact! Who knows, you may find something you hadn't considered before, and perhaps, some hints towards the future of the Tales from Zilmurik lore!

I like the setup how it is when you do update your game with a major update, it's nice to get the attention out there.

But at the same time it is kinda bad because someone had said the same thing about my game recently when it was on the frontpage a couple days in a row, and all it was really was me fixing things that people would obviously see in the demo, and the way I see it is that demos should be constantly updated for any newcomers wanting to play, to see the best.

Just my opinion though.
After seeing StrangeLove's let's try I'm gonna give it a go!
Where do I have to go after Carol and Deiji joined the party?

Once you recruit Carol and Deiji, return to their father and talk to him concerning the nightmares both Alex and Carol have been having and what they can do to pass the time and clear their minds. He'll request that you go to the frozen tower to the north.
I've been playing through this recently. It's a very fun game. However, the encounter rate is WAY too high in most areas. I sometimes take ONE STEP after a battle only to get thrown into another one. My suggestion is to lower the encounter rate and make the enemies harder (as well as make them give more exp to balance it out)

As well, the characterization is terrible. I understand that this isn't the main focus of the game, but you should at least attempt to give the characters some personality. Make Alex the overconfident hero, Deiji; the cautious intellectual, and Carol, the sarcastic bitch. Anything is better than the bland dialogue we get in this version. You can change the name of a character speaking to anybody else's and it won't make a difference as it is right now. I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just trying to give advice.

The story is very basic, and that's okay... I just wish Alex had a reason for leaving his hometown rather than just wanting to "explore the world". Just a minor complaint. As well, I think you should expand the towns and add more houses to some of them. What kind of town has three houses (only one of which is residential) and a castle? And I'd prefer the NPC's at least say something rather than not anything.

That being said, this is still a very enjoyable game. The mapping is excellent, as well, and the dungeons are pretty well designed and fun to navigate through. I think this is indeed a good game, but it could be much better.

I've been thinking about setting up a sort of custom random encounter deal for each map that has them so that I can set it to an exact number between 25-40 steps instead of a tendancy or whatever the default is set to where even if the encouter rate is set to 40, you could hit them every fifth step. All it would really take is setting up variables for the Hero X and Y position, the last position and the number of steps until the next encounter. This will most likely become staple in the next games in the series.

Characterization has never been my strong point as I've always focused more on the overarching storyline and mapping instead of intricate details between people. This is one of those things I really want to start working on improving now that I feel that I'm hitting a personal cap when it comes to 2k/3 RTP mapping. I'd also like to add more depth to the small details of my stories to make them "grander". NPC dialog was something I've wanted to improve in the past but got tired of using the random three dialog choice thing instead of having the same message pop up every time. I've really got to find a way to make basic messages from the nameless NPCs seem more important than "Welcome to Darunmus!" if they aren't part of a quest chain.
This game looks so cool, I'm downloading it now...

Hey Corfaisus, what would be a reasonable lvl for the party at the end game? :)

With some decent equipment, I'd say around mid 20s. I would also suggest fighting the Void Spawn in the book at the volcano section of Chaos' domain to allow one of your characters to learn Ultima (which will do a lot of damage to Chaos seeing as how it's a Holy spell and he's a Dark elemental) if you didn't get Alex's "Ultimate Weapon" from fighting the game's hard optional super-boss. Granted, reaching this super-boss requires you to have beaten the main optional dungeon (defeated the Lost Shrine Guardian) and everything up to the part that you're asked by the "???" NPC in the Holy City whether or not you're ready to confront Chaos. So essentially having completed the main world 100%, minus the final dungeon and the Whirlpool Guardian boss.

The answer to the nightmare is as follows...

6 6 6 6
7 3 1 3
5 7 4 4
1 2 3 1
4 5 7 5
8 8 5 8
2 1 8 7
3 4 2 2

You'll know it when you see it. Just trust me on this one.

Ok! I have submitted my review!
Hope you find the feedback useful.
Feel free to ask for details on any part of the review.
Your mapping is great. Awesome use of Original RTP.
You have a great grasp of making levels and depth in a 2d map.

Thank you for your kind words.
Can we be seeing a second chapter?
Pretty much the best looking RTP game I have yet seen. Great job! Dling now
I'm not sure if it's just me being noobish or what but whenever I load up the game from the beginning, no saved games, my character looks to the right and walks into the fence, then i can't move him at all...I can only look up and down and right. Please tell me it's a glitch because this is a new computer...

My reguards,

I know that sometimes computers don't want to cooperate with RPG Maker and your character ends up getting locked into moving right. The only thing I can recommend is restarting your computer or pecking feverishly at keys until you regain control of your character.
Hey mate i've been playing the game and i have to say i quite like it. But i'm stuck in the statue puzzle in the ice cavern inside Chaos' Domain, i've used the same combination used in the rightmost room and a few others to no avail so i'd apreciate the help, thanks.

Have you checked the stone tablet lying in the glyph in the center room and used its hint to guide you to the solution? If so:

There are two "solutions" to the puzzle. In order to get the main one that's intended to make you progress, place the demon statues where there were angel statues in the opposite room. Do likewise with the angel statues to gain access to a room with an item merchant.

You can only have one of these rooms accessible at a time, however.
