RPGMAKER IS DEAD

-LOL-

As far as RN goes I have not worked on this. I uploaded a few screenshots of the last progress regarding it. I also added a bad guys section. I plan on finishing this, but I have bigger projects on my plate, so it will get done when it gets done. RPG'S are too exhausting to try and do something different with. All of my energy is focused on a Technobabel.

Basically I started working on the boneyard dungeon, which isn't really a dungeon more of a game where you dodge giant lazer beams while running and jumping over objects. Random icons pop up to give you a 3 second reaction time to jump over the object. Everytime you take damage you fall back, and if you fall behind further the giant robot chasing you will suck you up and you die. Above is sort of a timeline that you have, basically when the icon reaches the end that is your timer.

Dropping a few links to my homeboys at GZstorm.

Try out a few of their games.

The only reason I updated this blog was to drop a Technobabel (http://technobabelgame.blogspot.com/)link. And I have updated my other Blaaag(http://tft-rnss.blogspot.com/). Like I just woke up one day and came to the conclusion that RPGMAKER is terrible. People want to ramble on about "game design" when all they're doing is laying down tiles and writing. Like, that is incredibly deep game design right there bro. If you like that, and that's your thing great! It really comes down to you having fun and making something, but I get a vibe from so many big wig RM users(faggots) that it is just a frustrating process and they want to breach the heavens of RM! You somehow captured the essence of A++ game design in a bottle with your battle formulas and enemy stats, bro.

<Silviera> there's one point of the game where you enter a building as him, and leave as another character and the rain instantly stops
<chaos|RMing> :) Perfect.

^That is what people think is good now. Like, I am glad VX has set people back 5 years. The problem I have with RM is it just does fill my needs anymore. You make one game and it's like okay, what's next? Like, my partner has built a game engine and he basically says "We can do anything p much" and you just look at RM and you can script a mining system. It is never "A robot flying through 8 panorama clouds and it uses a hook arm to rotate the screen" Even if you could do that in RM you know how many people would use it? Zero. RPG's are a broken boring formula.

I like the RM users who spend x___ perfecting battle formulas and utilizing detailed buffs and de-buffs when ultimately it comes down to "push space bar". Great game design right there. People like to talk about game design, but rarely do they do anything beyond traditional RPGS. Otherwise they wouldn't be using Rpgmaker.

Basically, f u -bird-

He's a person who prefers things getting done by execution rather than strategy. Sure, it is easy to maneuver through RPG Menus, but the skill in it comes from choosing the right option at the right time. But if you prefer action-heavy games, go for it, they're also potentially great (I think any kind of genre or input can be done very good or terrible)

I don't think it's even about the interface to controlling the game. Yes interface is a huge deal for games and most RM games get a huge F in this category. But the post was definitely more than just "lol dont use menus".

Game design is more than just "lets make a database of 300 skills! That's definitely a boxart bullet point!". RM is not limited to the silly things TFT said, but the problem is nobody is trying to go beyond the (sad) norm. XP/VX allow you to do so many things that people are not doing. These days it's about whose premade script you can mash together with others.

Back in the RPG Maker 2000/2003 days, people were doing the same with rips. We were lucky because that meant people still had to think about their game design. Good thing they don't anymore!

Way to entirely miss the point, Corf.

Also don't post anymore image macros or you are gone.
I can understand your rant, but this barely has to do with engine limitations.

There's very little of this post that deals with actual engine limitations. It's more about how people cling to archaic software and cannot dream.

You know how everyone talks about the videogame industry being taken over by realistic war shooters with no creativity? Same deal here. Even if people could make more than what they have been, they have proven time and again that they won't.
I can understand your distaste for retreads of the same shit, in a manner of speaking, and it's cool that you are working with somebody that is making a custom engine with you, though I think the irony of targeting Silviera in the middle of your post will become apparent when he does release his decidedly unusual game (whenever the hell that is).

I talked with WIP for awhile about your blog post and I guess my biggest problem is that I just do not value the concept of being different so much since I have seen a lot of 'different' games and most things are pretty damn derivative regardless of what that selling point suggests.

Different is nice if done well. Not quite as nice if not (V&V lol).

Nope. We hate image macros around here.

Wait, when did Karsuman's name turn red?
The amateur game community as a whole is ~90%* shit games. That this is true for RPGMaker games is not a big surprise.
So wait? Am I wrong to use RPG maker to make RPGs?
