You thought I was gone? Come on, be honest! Well, for a while I was; around August of last year a wild car appeared out of nowhere and smashed the hell out of my car (see below):
Yeah, it was every ounce of bad as it looks (*tears up*). I've never been in an accident that serious before, but thankfully there were no fatalities. However, my back was MESSED up, which made sitting anywhere for extended periods of time -- let alone in front of a computer -- difficult. After months of rehab, I recovered just in time to finish my schooling. That ended a month ago, and since then, I've been using my free time to finish Chapter 2 (which is uploading as I type). Now that it's finished, I'm probably going to take a break from Raciela and try working on Story of Innocence. We all know how ephemeral the urge to work on RPG Maker is, and I want to take full advantage of it.
The release has two saves: one for those who never played the Chapter 2 demo and deleted their end-of-Chapter 1 save file, and the other for those who played the Chapter 2 demo but deleted their save file for that. If you have save files from either, they should be compatible with this release. Also, there was suppose to be a segment featuring a ship battle, but I decided to move that to Chapter 3 as I did not feel like re-learning the "code" of that feature. I hope you enjoy Chapter 2; post any bugs/errors you encounter and I'll patch them as quickly as possible!
Hey, thought I'd stop by and give everyone an update on Chapter 2's progress. I'm aiming for a release sometime this summer. As I've said before, it's the longest chapter of the three, and whatever free time I have for rpg maker goes into both this and Story of Innocence. So, I'm working as fast as I can, but in the meantime I've uploaded a some more screens that show some progress.
A download for chapter 2 should be up soon. It has no official beginning, or continuation from chapter 1; those will be in the chapter 2 full release. It simply begins. It's short, but there are optional conversations that can be had. As for testing, I played through it twice and didn't encounter any glaring errors. But, as these things go, that doesn't mean it's completely bug-free. So let me know if they're any errors I missed, and I'll fix them.
Here's a little video from part of the beginning of chapter two. Fair Warning: This video contains MAJOR spoilers for those who haven't played chapter one, and minor spoilers for those who have.
Hey, everyone, I just dropped in to announce the release of chapter one. Yeah, I'm splitting this into three chapters; chapter one and three will be about the same length, and chapter two will probably be the longest. I know this isn't a full release, but because of my life I do what I can when I can. Anyway, the download should be up soon, and it's about two hours. I'd also like to thank my beta-testers (even if some of you didn't get a chance to play); I really appreciated the feedback. I played through it myself a couple of times and I believe I caught the most glaring errors. Besides, anything wrong balancing-wise with chapter one can be rectified in chapter 2. So, I think that about does it. All criticism is welcomed - both positive and negative.
P.S. Window 7 users may have trouble playing it if they don't have the right audio codecs installed. If you're one of those people, go to http://xiph.org/dshow/ and download the OGG codec pack. Thanks to ElectricalKat for posting the link.
P.P.S. If you're low on money, sell tradable items, or gamble.
It's hard working on two games. I know I said work on SOI will not interfere with my work on Raciela, but the reality is that it has - I just love working on both. Also, about a few months ago, upon starting my computer, I was told "a hard drive failure was imminent." So, I tried making a backup of my everything on my external harddrive, but midway through, it failed completely. I took it to a local computer shop to see if it could be recovered, and they said "Maybe, but it'll take $200 to even try" and I don't have that kind of money to spend on a possibility. And even though I have all my projects backed to my external hard drive, my "work files," like sprite sheets were lost. Since then, I bought a laptop, and starting working from there. Now, I a lot of the mods I applied to the rpg2003.exe and rpg_rt.exe aren't working. My old OS was Vista, and the one on my Laptop is Windows 7, so I'm trying to figure out what's wrong.
Regardless, my goal is to release something by the end of this year. Not a complete game, mind you, but a substantial release none the less (once this became my main project I decided to extend the story). I hate giving myself a deadline, but if I don't try to hold myself to it, I probably won't get anything done. I've had this page up for nearly 2 years, but only seriously worked on it for about a year. I think year is enough time to have something tangible to release, so fingers crossed, I'll be able to get it done. In the meantime, here's a video of a small scene:
Nothing special, bascially just a montage of scenes transitioned by credits (only me, surprise). Anyway, it's still a WIP, I just thought I'd share it. In the actual game you would be able to skip this.
I added 4 new screen shots, and a few new characters in the "Characters" section of the game profile. Also, I updated the sprites for existing characters. That's it for now.
Yep, even though I never changed the status, this game has been pretty much on hiatus since my last update. I've had a lot on my plate in the past few months, mainly having to do with work and my impending fatherhood, but now that everything's starting to settle down, I should be able to find time to work on this. That's not to say I haven't made any progress- I have, but it mainly has to do with aspects of the story. So, hopefully you can expect some new screens (gameplay, locations), and a few new characters to be added in the upcoming weeks. Cheers!
