Quintessa is the latest “Cap’N” of the Lady Raciela. Her father was a well-respected pirate, and her mother died shortly after giving birth to her. She lived with her aunt until her aunt became sick and died; Quintessa was six years old at the time. Her father returned to take Quintessa with him to live a life at sea. 16 years ago, on Merch Island, her father was killed by Barnabas. Later that night, she and Corsair were detained by Easton and his men. Easton, having lost his daughter (of the same age) the same day, empathized with the now fatherless Quintessa. Knowing her situation, Easton became her legal guardian and spared her a most dreadful fate. As the years went by, Quintessa struggled to adjust to everyday life; it wasn’t too long before she became disillusioned with it. While corresponding with Corsair, she devised a plan to steal the Lady Raciela. She was successful in her attempt, and became the ship’s new captain. And after 12 years of commanding the only pirate ship still active, she has gained legendary status among the criminal element, and notoriety among the lawful.

Corsair is the second in command of the Lady Raciela, and Quintessa’s closest friend. When he was 12, he was a Cabin Boy for a merchant ship that was attacked by an upstart pirate named Errol Barnabas. Barnabas decided to spare his life, and brought him aboard the Lady Raciela where he became friends with a very young Quintessa. After the Merch Island incident, Corsair was forcefully drafted into the Royal Navy as a low-rank sailor. He kept in touch with Quintessa for a number of years, and she convinced him to become a deserter and help her steal the Lady Raciela, which was stationed at dry dock in Wynondham. Today Corsair is fiercely loyal to Quintessa, and would kill anyone who looks to harm her. They had a brief romance in the past, but quickly realized what a huge mistake it was.


Name: Wesley Burrows

The youngest crewman onboard the Lady Raciela, Wesley met Quintessa while looking for work, and won favor from her when he held his own against Corsair in a tavern fight. Since then he has quickly become one of Quintessa’s closest confidantes; she says he reminds her of a young Corsair. Corsair himself respects the young man, but has questions about his motives. Wesley pretends not to care, but every now and then makes subtle attempts to earn Corsair’s trust. He doesn’t drink, nor fornicate with women, which is the main reason Corsair questions his loyalty… And sexuality.

Bio:
Described as the “King of Scoundrels,” Raleigh is the only member of the Lady Raciela, besides Corsair, to serve under Barnabas. During the Merch Island incident, Raleigh escaped Easton’s clutches, and went into hiding. He kept a low profile until rumors of a new captain of the Lady Raciela spread, and decided to seek him out. Needless to say, he was surprised to find out little Quintessa had taken up the mantle. After apologizing for leaving Quintessa and Corsair to their fate, he was reluctantly allowed back on the ship. Were it not for his years of experience, they probably would’ve killed him.


Name: Benjamin Greaves

Benjamin is the son of the former Master of the Lady Raciela, who was hanged in 1568 when the COM was defeated. Recruited by Quintessa shortly after she reclaimed the Lady Raciela, Benjamin is considered an expert navigator and is the main reason the crew has avoided Easton for so long. He doesn’t participate in battles or pillaging, but enjoys the spoils none the less. When not consumed by his duties, he tends to day dream about Edith.

Edith has earned the reputation as one of the loosest woman in Southern Astoria – an accomplishment she’s quite proud of. She didn’t have a traumatic childhood, nor did she have “daddy issues.” She’s actually from a loving family that’s rather reputable. It’s just that she loves life, and to fully enjoy it means to “go against society’s expectations.” A philosophy that she and Quintessa adhere to well. While she has no real function onboard the Lady Raciela, she is without a doubt the crew’s biggest supporter.

William Avery has been the Governor of Wynondham for the past 12 years. Originally a Member of Parliament, Avery was appointed governor shortly before Quintessa began her reign as the Lady Raciela’s captain. At first he paid no attention to her, but was forced to act due to the pressure applied by various trading companies. So, for the better part of his term, his main priority has been Quintessa’s defeat. And although her attacks have decreased in recent years, she is still operational – a fact which eats at the very core of Avery. He does not want his inability to capture a single pirate captain to be his lasting legacy.


Name: Albrecht Fenwick

Albrecht is the eldest Fenwick brother, and chief executor of his late father’s estate. Arrogant, self-important, relentless – he is the complete opposite of his father. Being Empress Mildred’s cousin Albrecht began his days at court early. A decade after the war with the COM was over, Astoria’s economy began to weaken. In an effort to acquire more riches and resources, Albrecht suggested he lead an expedition to find new, uncharted territories. Empress Mildred approved his request, and within a few years time, he discovered the continent of Lavinia. Shortly after establishing Lavinia’s first settlement, Gransville, a friendly tribe called the Incomati initiated contact with the settlers. Albrecht negotiated peace with them, and during the celebration the following night, he met the daughter of the chief and instantly became smitten with her. However, before he was able to make his move, he was called back to Ethel City to give his report. But, vowed that one day the native beauty would be his, no matter what.

Formerly a Captain during the High Seas War, Easton was promoted to Admiral in the wake of the COM’s formation. His no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners attitude was exactly what Astoria needed to fight the COM. As a result, the COM was destroyed with ease, but this swift victory came at a price – the life of Easton’s daughter. Barnabas kidnapped her to use as leverage when it became evident he would be betrayed by one of his men, but killed her when he found out who betrayed him. Weeks later, Easton took Quintessa as his ward, and tried to be the father to her he was not to his deceased daughter. However, this proved increasingly difficult as the more attention he gave Quintessa, the further away she drifted until she stole the Lady Raciela right from under his nose, and became who she is today. Some say the reason why he’s yet to capture Quintessa is because doesn’t want to see her hanged.


Name: Nathaniel Goodfellow

Nathaniel Graduated at the top of his class from the Royal Naval Academy in Ethel City, capital of Astoria. About six years into Quintessa’s reign, Nathaniel was transferred to Wynondham where he became a commander under Captain Jefferson Hugo. During a decisive battle with Quintessa, a miscalculation on Hugo’s part resulted in the loss of several schooners. Hugo was demoted, and Nathaniel was promoted to captain. Nathaniel’s orders for several years have been only to protect the southern coast of Wynondham. However, now he has been given permission to go on the offensive and capture Quintessa once and for all. He has a deep hatred for all pirates, pirate-wannabes, and pirate-sympathizers.


Name: Jefferson Hugo

Jefferson Hugo is an ex-captain who now serves under Nathaniel Goodfellow. Hugo was a commander under John Easton during the late stages of the High Seas War. When the war with the COM started he was promoted to Captain, and became highly decorated. But when pursing Quintessa years later, and despite objections from his commander Nathaniel, Hugo followed her into what turned out to be an ambush. This blunder cost Easton a fair amount of ships, and cost Hugo his pride. He was then demoted, and has had disdain for Quintessa and Easton ever since. He considers Nathaniel an exceptional captain, but has no doubt, if given a second chance, he could do better.


Name: Lewis Northington

Lewis Northington is the only government official helping the crew of the Lady Raciela. Sometime before the war with the COM started, when Northington was a young MP, Porter Newport saved him from a mugging that was about to turn deadly. He then promised to pay him back on one day, and was in the process of doing so when Porter was killed. So, because he couldn’t repay the man who saved his life, he helps Quintessa by allowing her and her crew to touchdown in Bayford for the occasional R&R. Of course he gets a percentage of whatever Quintessa appropriates, but not out of greed. He uses his ill-gotten gains as hush money for the civilians, and the town guard. And it works, as no one outside of Bayford, not even Easton, know of this unlawful arrangement.

Byron is a Major in the Royal Navy’s Marine Unit. As much as Nathaniel knows about the sea, Byron knows about the land. Originally born in Wynondham, Byron spent most of his life in Ethel City, but recently returned to his hometown to aid in the capture of Quintessa. When he first arrived, he was greeted by Governor Avery and his family. Once he laid eyes on Adele, it was love at first sight - at least for him. And even though he knows she’s engaged to be married, with her fiancé currently deployed at sea, he continues to make unwanted advances on her.

There isn’t a man alive who doesn’t know the legend of Errol “The Hangman” Barnabas. He comes from a humble origin as a fisherman merely trying to provide for his family. However, a trading company destroyed his fishing vessel, the Raciela, in an attempt to eliminate all competition. The Raciela doubled as a home for Barnabas and his family, so when it was destroyed, his family drowned leaving Barnabas as the sole survivor. Filled with vengeance and rage, Barnabas snuck aboard the ship that destroyed his life, and murdered it’s captain. He strung up the captain, and with his lifeless body hanging from the main mast, a blood-soaked Barnabas gave the crew an ultimatum: “Accept me as your new captain, or be hung.” And so Barnabas acquired his first crew, and renamed the ship the Lady Raciela. It wasn’t until after the High Seas War that Barnabas saw an opportunity to expand his influence. But the power he attained as leader of the COM corrupted him, and he could no longer tell right from wrong. He killed all who defied him, tortured his prisoners, and raped women. This behavior led to his most trusted ally betraying him. The last anyone saw of him was falling off a cliff on Merch Island. He is now a ghost story parents tell to scare their children. “Beware The Hangman.”

Being the daughter of Wynondham’s governor, Adele was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. And although privileged, she is not afraid to do things for herself. Running her own errands and cooking her own food has left her personal attendant feeling without purpose. She is the object of many men’s affection, but recently got engaged to her childhood sweetheart who’s a naval officer. She now eagerly awaits his return from sea.

When Scarlet was 18, she and her mother received a letter stating her father had died in an ambush orchestrated by Quintessa. Ever since then, Scarlet has had a vendetta against Quintessa, and wants to be known as the woman who kills her. However, Quintessa isn’t exactly a public figure, so in order to find her Scarlet pretends to be a pirate looking to join up with Quintessa’s crew. Except, for some reason, no one will tell her how to get in contact with Quintessa. Is it that nobody actually knows, or is that she’s terribly unconvincing when it comes to acting like a pirate?

Kuwanyauma is princess of the Incomati tribe. When the Astorian settlers first arrived, she was among the few to actually express interest in their culture. Once she learned their language, she would entertain the children with stories she was told as a child. She is beautiful, smart, and eager to learn, and it is these qualities that caught the eye of Albrect Fenwick.

Wapago is the strongest warrior among the Incomati, and as such is in line to be the next Tribal Chief - that is if he marries Kuwanyauma. For the Incomati, it is important that their Tribal Chief produce a daughter, because the man who marries her will become the next leader of his people. Wapago is an excellent warrior and skilled hunter, but suffers setbacks due to his heated temper. A while back he nearly killed an Astorian settler for accidentally treading upon a sacred burial ground. The settlers wanted retribution, but the Tribal Chief made a huge peace offering that they eventually accepted. This infuriated Wapago, because he wanted them to try and take him by force, which would’ve given him a reason to kill. As if he didn’t already have one.
