It's the quest of the many quests!

Hello adventurers!
Once again I'm reviewing an old aventure made with Rpgmaker 2003, and unfortunately this is another game that it wasn't completed but exists as a demo, realized by Kazesui in 2009. This developer made many games, from the mediocre Ape Escape to some very interesting works, like the cool shooter Zero Base and the really impressive Unbit (made just 3 years ago, in 2021), and the really impressive thing is that all these games were made with Rpgmaker 2003, but they aren't classic Rpgmaker 2003 games, on the contrary these were incredible experiments. Check them to play something good and unusual too.
Anyway this is another game where Kazesui wanted to experiment, throwing out the classic rpgmaker party system and battle system, and choosing for a game in real time with a single protagonist.
In this game you won't see the usual rm2k/rm2k3 battle system, but all happens in real time!
Now, the game is about a nameless hero, that takes on various quests. He's just inside a room and using a book he can select the levels that we'll play. Easy, but maybe a bit too "dry" for what concerns the story, on the other hand the place is well mapped.
Now the gameplay: the game as mentioned before uses a real time combat, that like in many other rpgmaker game... it's everything but fun an it's just a wild clickfeast where you just have to avoid being touched by the enemies (even if some have also other means of attacks), that have the same intelligence of a rock. Really. Technically the battles should have been more complex due to the presence of secondary attacks and magic spells, but in this demo unfortunately things weren't fully implemented, it's a pity but not too much since it hardly could have been a fun system, due to the limitations of the engine.
Aside from battles, there is also some simple puzzles (pushing crates and pushing buckets, it's the same still it's one of my favourite puzzles because it's simple and usually not too difficult), and that's a good thing, I think, anyway there is another issue: you cannot access the menu after starting a mission, meaning that you cannot save and you will be forced to close the game brutally if you have to stop playing.
Visually the game is nice: there are some RTPs and assets from other sources/packs like the protagonist's charset, anyway I found everything pretty much well done, from the interface to the maps. Probably this is one of the best aspects, considering it's an unfinished game and many mechanics aren't implemented, moreover it includes some bugs.
Not only battles! The demo includes also some puzzles like this classic "pushing maze" that this time does not include boulders or crates, but buckets!
Final Verdict
No rating this time, of course, anyway the game is something that could have earned a 3/5 thanks to some cool ideas (for example the idea of getting more experience points the better you performed in a quest. That's a nice idea for me because it also includes the chance to spend these points on various abilities rather than having the usual boring level system!), pleasant puzzles, ok graphics, and terrible battles. No, just no rpgmaker 2003 game can have a decent real-time melee battle system, I am sorry.
Anyway I am glad that the developer stopped this earlier experiment to produce some much more good games with original aspects, in fact I take this opportunity to suggest the other games I mentioned in the beginning. This game is not recommended but instead play Zero Base or Unbit! Those were awesome.

That sounds like a challenge

well most action rpgmaker games I played and reviewed were pretty bad, and the good ones were almost never made with Rm2k and Rm2k3... there are some rare exceptions like Grimorum (but that's a stealth game, where action combat is technically a failure... you should avoid it rather than enjoy it!)
Of course ZERO BASE was one of the se exceptions! :P
