World's Dawn developer let's play

Hey everyone! Wow, it's been a long time O.O

I wanted to drop by because I'm returning to World's Dawn three years after release (!) for a developer let's play. I'll be going through a good chunk of the game with a friend and sharing behind-the-scenes stories, community comments, and laughs aplenty. I thought some fellow RM folks might be interested in how the project came together and why certain decisions were made, that sort of thing.

I've been going through a bit of a rough patch lately, so this cozy, casual series has been a good way to decompress and stay connected with other players and developers. If you think you might enjoy it, there are a few episodes up on YouTube already and more to come very soon! And please do let me know what you think. I've never recorded anything like this before, so feedback is certainly welcome.

Thanks all! I really appreciate the support this community has given me over the years.

What happens when you catch a Dusk Hopper---it said I'd caught it, but it vanished; tell me 'collecting' a dusk hopper does NOT mean I squished it. I'm letting them live and hop, if that is so.
WOW! I just started this game up and am really impressed.

I am a huge fan of the 2D Harvest Moon games and this seems right up my alley. I might write my first review for this game once I finish it up.
I've subscribed for this some time ago, but even though I want it now, I think I'll wait for the final release, so I can enjoy the full game instead of getting hyped for winter.
Thanks for playing! As far as winter plans go, I'm not ready to announce them just yet, but I can promise that big things are in store.
sorry to bother everyone but I've been looking forever for the "Blue star flower" needed to make the piping stew...But I can't find it! I'd appreciate it if someone would help me with this.

Edit:...That was neither blue, nor star, NOR flower...I am upset. That was just a herb. Either I'm crazy and got that from nowhere, or you might have to make a little edit to the dialog...
YES! I'm a huge fan of Harvest Moon and when I first saw this game, I cried happiness.
Please, continue this game (I suppose you need to make the Winter season), because I'm totally in love with this piece of art. Nice graphics, by the way!
Thank you! I am glad you're enjoying the game! I'm planning on releasing the winter season as the final game, and you'll be able to loop your save file back around to spring to keep playing indefinitely.

By the way, anyone having trouble finding something or has any questions about secrets in the game, check out the wiki! It's very helpful for all those sorts of details.
This looks really nice! I am surely gonna try it out and let you know what I think :3 and that trailer! Damn, it's amazing~~
OMG I love this game, it's just... amazing. You're incredible!!
I really hope you reach your kick starter goal but sadly without some more word getting out i have a bad feeling you are going to only get around 3 to 4 K that is a real shame i can only hope some popular YouTuber or someone shows off your game if i could i would give a ton of money but sadly we are a poor family and need money for food.
Woah. That is one sexy Hunter. Love the ripped-off sleeves, that hairstyle, and his charming smile. Now I'm excited to see what Sparrow will look like! Hey, are images going to be made of the main characters as well? Are the sprites gonna get a makeover too?

So... Winter is coming... (Hey, someone had to do it)
It's the most mystical season, what with the land blanketed in beautiful white snow. Oh. That means the characters will get new outfits to wear to stay warm and not get sick in the cold weather! Does that mean winter character portraits are gonna be made as well then? Swimming trunks/swimsuit portraits for the Summer Beach festival too? If so, that's something else to look forward to. Well, that and a possible snowball fight mini-game/event.

The collecting ingredients in bottles to blend into drinks aspect of the game gives me a compulsive desire to search all the villager's houses for fruit juice, spirits, etc. I like how no one bats an eye when I barge in and steal their stuff, heh. Would certainly be helpful if I could tell how many days it'll take before a resource becomes available again.

Fishing is quite simple though I feel like it shouldn't take 1 hour to get 1 fish. Maybe 30 minutes instead? As for mining, I hate how rare it is to get a diamond even from a gleaming stone. Plus the gold value of amber and opal aren't too far apart despite opal being a bit less common than amber. Actually, it'd be nice to see how much money each item you ship gets you, if possible.

Does watching that TV show (the one that costs an hour and some stamina) serve any purpose?

Does certain clothing have any special effects while worn? If so, could you list them? Can your dog only sniff out coins or can it sometimes be a slime instead?

One of the more time-consuming parts of the game is hunting down everyone to chat with them and give them their daily gift. Though I suppose this will become easier after I get a horse to ride around town faster. Also helps that most of them tend to congregate to the Bar in the evening. If I work part-time at the Carpentry's, does that give my relationship with Hunter a boost like how the Bakery does for Sparrow (at least I think that's what part-time jobs do)?
At the moment, I'm not planning on making new sprites or portraits for the player character. I would need a slightly higher budget for all that, unfortunately. I am hoping to be able to put at least some of the characters in different outfits throughout the year, though!

I'll take your suggestions about fishing and mining into consideration. Those are the things that are tough to balance through my own playtesting, so your feedback is super important for me. Thanks for sharing!

There's not any practical purpose to watching Prophecy Quest, but there may be some sort of achievement for watching them all down the road...

Yes, certain clothing has special effects when worn, specifically the Rain Cloak (which keeps you from losing more energy during storms) and some of the charms you can equip. No, your dog only ever sniffs out coins. The sage glops pop up randomly as you dig around town. And yes, your relationship with Hunter will be increased every time you work at the Craftshop -- same as everyone else around the village for their own respective shops.

Thanks so much for your comments and your interest in the game! I hope you'll consider backing the Kickstarter campaign going on now =) And look forward to future seasons!
holy awesome! Look at that screenshots and the color!
I'll download this game for sure!

Thank you both so much! I'm going to hold off on the sigh of relief until the campaign officially ends, but it's still an amazing feeling to hit 100%.
The game reached it's goal. Excellent news.
Congratulations!
I think the game deserved it.
