Battle Video + Timed Hits + Spells + Items + Status Effects

Hey, I decided to upload a video of the battle system. It's definitely come a long way since the tech demo was released nearly 8 months ago. The newest feature here is the introduction of "timed hits". Similar to the Paper Mario series, a timed hit consists of pressing the action button at the right time during a physical attack. Doing so will grant you an extra attack, and doing so AGAIN will grant you another attack, so a total of 3 attacks possible.



In the video, you'll see there are a slew of spells and items at his disposal, as well as a few status effects that appear. So here's a quick reference guide to all the spells, items, and status effects in the game.

FIRE: Scorch , Fireward, Firestorm
FROST: Freeze, Shatter, Blizzard
SKY: Shock, Discharge, 10,000 Volts
EARTH: Crush, Tremors, Earthsplitter
LIGHT: Heal, Lightward, Deathward
VOID: Void, Vampire, Vortex

NEGATIVE BUFFS

Str Down - Reduces strength
Int Down - Reduces Intelligence
Def Down - Reduces Defense
Agi Down - Reduces Agility
Slow - Increases time between turns
Stun - Prevents turns from occurring
Blind - Increases chance to miss physical attacks
Disarm - Prevents physical attacks
Silence - Prevents spellcasting
Perplex - Prevents the use of items
Clouded - Increases cast times on spells
Cursed - Increases damage taken from spells
Expose - Increases damage taken from physical attacks
Burn - Fire damage every turn
Frostbite - Frost damage every turn
Degen - Percent-based magic damage every turn
Poison - Physical damage every turn
Bleed - Percent-based physical damage every turn
Leak - MP loss every turn

POSITIVE BUFFS

Str Up - Increases Strength
Int Up - Increases Intelligence
Def Up - Increases Defense
Agi Up - Increases Agility
Haste - Reduces time between turns
Focus - Ensures all attacks will hit
Quicken - Grants 2 actions per turn
Clarity - Makes all spells instant cast
Blessed - Reduces damage taken from spells
Harden - Reduces damage taken by physical attacks
Lucid - Increases damage dealt by spells
Striker - Increases damage dealt by physical attacks
Barrier - Absorbs a set amount damage

Red Potion - Restores 50 HP
Red Elixir - Restores 250 HP
Blue Potion - Restores 10 MP
Blue Elixir - Restores 50 MP
Gold Potion - Restores 50 HP & 10 MP
Gold Elixir - Restores 250 HP & 50 MP

COMBAT ONLY ITEMS:

Herbs - Removes Poison, Bleed, Degen, Leak, Burn, and Frostbite
Adrenaline - Grants Focus, removes Blind
Thinking Cap - Grants Clarity, removes Clouded
Holy Water - Grants Blessed, removes Cursed
Stone Oil - Grants Harden, removes Expose
White Candy - Grants Lucid
Spicy Pepper - Grants Striker
Neutralizer - Removes Str Down, Int Down, Def Down, Agi Down, Str Up, Int Up, Def Up, Agi Up
Chimes - Removes Silence
Sticky Spray - Removes Disarm
Rabbit Foot - Grants Quicken
Grenade - Deals damage to one enemy, scales with Agility
Dynamite - Deals damage to all enemies, scales with Agility
Barrier - Grants Barrier, scales with Agility

The system is looking really good. The only thing I would suggest is adding some sort of text to the status-effect pictures because I don't think some of them are that clear (if this is possible).


Thanks for the feedback, FG. I'll have to take that into consideration. I may actually just buckle down and make text-pictures for each effect and have them constantly scroll through during battles.
This battle system looks really sweet, it reminded me of chrono trigger's a little bit and that's always a good thing; the only aspect of it that I didn't like as much are the various HUDs, the menus are kind of small, the ‘font' is hard to read and looks weird, almost like: “FirE RunE” and well, some other things could also use more polishing too...

But I understand you're still working on this, so, I hope you the best of luck with it.

Thanks man, I definitely appreciate your input and will take everything into consideration, as there's definitely still a lot to consider. To address your qualms, I'll just say I'm not really one for interface design so I'm doing what I can with what I've got. I still plan on revamping lots of visual things, but at the time that sort of is taking a back seat to getting the gameplay portion of things underway. :)
Awesome system,I just hope the other parts of the game will be great as this.
