A great tech demo

And that's most of what needs to be said about this game. In general, the RPG is mostly built around a battle system. All the fights are long, hard, there is no leveling up, and minimal customization with adding trinkets to characters to adjust stats or add minor changes to their features (like +SP when they get hit). The game is pretty much a series of optional dungeons with fights that lead to loot or a new character to add to your roster. No story to speak of, so the question becomes...is the battle system good enough to hang this game around?

The answer is yes. The battle system is fun and engaging for the fights, as you have to manage two resources (Individual character SP and party burst). Each class gets SP in different ways, some can supply others with it with their own SP skills, the tank gets more SP from being hit and thus has taunts, etc. The burst is built up by hitting/critting and lost by missing/hitting resists, akin to the SMT/Persona systems. The enemies have a ton of HP, probably a bit too much, but if they went down faster the system wouldn't have room to flourish. The system is built around long battles, and the long battles are engaging.

So with the battle system being great enough to consider this tech demo a success, what issues are there? Minimal. Burst characters, those designed to hit a lot and build up the burst gauge, especially the starting gun character, can occasionally miss so much they lower your burst, or have cooldowns that don't let them keep a good burst gauge up. Some characters don't get used very often comparatively because their burst attacks take away from other far more damaging characters. There are some actual technical issues, in that if you have two enemies that are the same, when you cursor between them, it won't show you if they have different buff/debuffs (The game bugs and shows you the first one selected only). When battles finish, the game flashes the enemies back just before it fades. Those are minor though.

In summary, I would love to see this battle system implemented in a larger game, it seems great to use for a boss-rush style game, where you slay massive creatures in long tactical fights. Play this tech demo if you like challenging combat, otherwise it won't have much for you.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's definitely a flawed and weird little release, but at least I've used it as an example to help some others with some coding.
