Debugging! Yay!

So, I got around to updating a lot of the scripts used in this project this week, in between ripping graphics.
Formerly, if an enemy and actor both had Reflect states applied to them, and used a magic skill on the other, an endless loop occurred. It was the same for counter-attacks. That's been fixed now after a script update was applied.
The Red Magic spell Mini now functions more closely to it's original incarnation, as in, casting it on someone who is already afflicted with Mini will cure them of the state. The same applies to the Red Magic spells Sadness and Fury and the White Magic spell Float.
A series of Relics that already existed in the game now function properly, adding states to the character equipped with them under certain conditions (most of which are HP<25%). Players may remember one of them being called the Czarina Ring in Final Fantasy VI, which auto-applied Shell when the character's HP fell below 25%.
That's all for bugfixes and script updates (although now that the Auction House is complete, I should have something pretty sweet to show soon for the next script project).
Now I bring a question: should Ellie remain as a Summoner and the lone actor in the game who can use summons, or should summons be converted to equippable items (one per character) that can be used by anyone in battle once acquired (think Final Fantasy 6 Espers)?
Both systems work well, but the series itself seemed to think that multiple users of summons in their games were the way to go. I am not so sure. What do you think?
I can say this, if they were changed to accommodate multiple characters being able to summon Aeons, then I would most likely remove one Materia slot for stat boosting and have equipment sets like so:
Weapon / Shield / Helmet / Armor / Relic / Relic / Materia / Aeon
Thoughts?

I wholeheartedly agree that Summons should be universal, as opposed to a single class restriction, I've always been a fan of interchangeable Espers and an FFVI-style equippable Esper system interests me a whole lot =)
~edit~
Here's an idea (which no doubt you've already considered and dismissed, so excuse me if that's the case) but rather than having a specific Aeon separation, why not simply have a Materia summon like it is in FF7? If it means not losing a Materia slot for boosts.

Materia's ONLY purpose in this project is to increase stats.
It should be noted that if Aeons become universal, Ellie would still have some exclusive ones that only she would be able to use (Bahamut, for example).

Or you can make her a Relm, a Gau, or the thing that comes if they have children C: (a girl that gets "rages" and paints them in battle -Relm with memory stick-).
(Dunno why, but Relm x Gau doesn't sounds that bad! They're both kids, and Gau kicks asses. And Relm wasn't instantly killed by Interceptor. Ohohohoho!).

I always liked the ability to "Ëquip" summons w/ summoners having various bonus/acess to the most powerful ones.
You mentioned that the materia is only for stat changes, I thought it was for class changes a la Final Fantasy Tactics (The original) where you can have two "Job Abilities" equipped....would be nice if each came with like one ability from the related class...nothing too OP of course. Give Bard Hide :P Would make for some interesting party makeups.
Oh and I have a personal preference for "summons" to be called Espers...if thats up for debate that my vote...otherwise go with your preference :D

They're Aeons in this game. If I can get the level-up bonuses a la Final Fantasy VI attached to the equippable Aeons, I'll test that out and if it's working well, Materia will be thrown away altogether, since they were added to offset the lack of level up bonuses.
Okay I like how you have the Materia. So I don't think you should get rid of it. I actually like summons as a character class ability. I also like it the other way but not as much. If you go the way of letting other characters have them. Why not have just equip a summon in battle so they could summon them and leave materia in game instead of having them give bonus. You could also give your summoner character the ability to equip two summons while everyone can only equip one( As well as any other bonus they get). Just some thoughts. Thanks for listening to what I have to say either way. By the way love how the game looks and cant wait till you are done.
