How Chocobos Work

Wark!

Chocobos have finally been implemented into the game, so it's time to explain just how it'll all work. The player has access to two different chocobos. First, the player will befriend everyone's favorite yellow chocobo, Boco. After taming him, the player can use the Key Item "Boco Whistle" to call Boco anywhere in the world. Boco will be able to pass over any terrain that the player can while walking around. The movement speed of the player will be increased while riding Boco, areas cannot be entered and encounters are disabled (this is true for all chocobo types).

You'll do a fair amount of travel on foot before Boco becomes available, however. Later on, as a result of an optional series of side quests, the player can gain a second (black) chocobo, Teioh!

Teioh can be summoned the same way Boco can, by using the "Teioh Whistle" Key Item. Teioh acts as a secondary airship, able to fly over mountains and land in areas that the airship cannot (such as forests.)

Finally, a third (blue) chocobo named Vahn (nod to Blackmoon Prophecy's main character) can be obtained through another series of side quests. This chocobo is summoned to your location just as the others are, by using (you guessed it) the "Vahn Whistle" Key Item. Vahn the chocobo can travel across land and water, and is able to take players to areas otherwise inaccessible by other means (such as island areas with no possible airship or Teioh landing points).

But wait, what about a GOLD chocobo? Surely, I wouldn't leave something like that out, would I? No, of course not. When all three chocobos have become your friends for life, a series of quests becomes available that allows the player to begin racing chocobos. Players can sponsor captive chocobos and train them for the races (although I think I'm going to make the races automated based on their stats).

Adoptable varieties include White, Red, Green, and Gold chocobos. Obviously, Gold chocobos will be the finest breed and won't be available immediately. More on chocobo racing as it gets coded and developed.

Do you think we would be able to encounter a chocobo or two in a battle? I kinda liked that feature in FFX-2 and FFXIII-2.
It's entirely possible.
I still want a Ciel Chocobo, but nice chocobo variety.
I'm gonna own a purple chocobo, just because I can! Lol, anyway this is pretty nice..will we be able to get some kind of OP magic like Knights of the Round when we get the gold chocobo? *o*
... You can't ride a Gold Chocobo. You can adopt one and race them against others, though.

Chocobos that can be ridden are Yellow, Black, and Blue.

My dreams have been crushed! Not really lol, oh well...still a happy thought from the FFVII days. :3
Regardless of not being able to ride the gold one, I'm still gonna secretly breed me a purple one~ ^o^
You'll probably be able to race against a Purple Chocobo, but you won't be able to adopt one. Adoptable chocobos are White, Green, Red, and Gold. Crushed again! :/
