Cambridge Series Overhaul

Howdy! Though I know that not many people are paying attention to this game (tear), I wanted to let it be known that I have decided to completely overhaul this game. Many things will invariably change (for example, the use of tall sprites instead of chibi, well thought out maps, cities, more detail and thoroughness in the storyline, more attention to the battle system and gameplay, etc).

Basically, I was creating this game with an end-goal in mind, but no idea what the end goal should be, thus making the episode ... redundant. For those who played the demo, many things will change, though there are a good deal of elements that will remain the same. I'm still working on the story as we speak, but I will try to update as frequently as I can. Screenshots will come in due time. I am debating whether the game should be in VX or XP (I like XP tiles much more.)

It really shouldn't have taken me a year to create the first episode, especially since I have 3 more to make after it!

The Pheonix Emerges!

Howdy all! So I realize that I stated, in my first blog, returning with an update of the game. Well, there is good news and bad news involved in this announcement:

Bad news: I lost nearly 70% of my game data to a computer malfunction.

Good news: I'm back to where I started before my memory was lost!

Man! Talk about something being extremely hard! I was really close to scraping the entire idea, but I knew that I had to stick this out, being my first, publicly announced game, not to mention that I truly DO want to finish it. This episode, along with the other 4! (I decided to cut out one main character, since her development really wasn't that important).

Cambridge Series: VA will be up on its feet very soon, and ever so quickly heading towards completion.

I hope those of you excited about this game, (all 1 of you), are happy to know that this episode is still being worked on, and that this series won't be given up on!

I hope to return soon with some updates on screenshots, and maybe even some music!

First Blog for my first game EVAR!

Howdy!

As it states in the title, this will officially be my first game, ever, created with RPG Maker, as well as my first game ever released to the public. Being my first blog, I figure this would be a great place to convey what my goals/ideals are for this series.

Multiple Episodes? Whaaa?

So, most people create a game, and then try and divy out behind the scene sequels or extras of the games characters, history, etc., afterwards.
I decided to do the opposite simply because I'm new. New to game-making, new to planning, new to brainstorming and executing storylines, writing dialouge, eventing, scripting (<-LAWL), etc.

So, I think (personally) that I am going the same route as a lot of other up and coming gamemakers: I am making a lot of little games, before dishing out big mama, which I have an abundance of ideas for, related to gameplay, interaction, etc. And, by the time I get to big momma, I have five games under my belt. By then, I'd be fairly apt at the first 5 ideas mentioned in the above paragraph.

But, in addition to that, I also plan on implementing different types of gameplay, interfaces, etc in each episode.

For example, the battle system in the first Episode, Veront Ashk, will be the good ol' turn-based, front-view, battle system.

But, for the second episode, I plan on using an ATB gauge system (hopefully) similar to that of FFX-2.

(I effing LOVE that battle-system)

So, what will ultimately stay the same are the tilesets (up until the official Cambridge game, when I will go back through and revamp each map and make it look better). Yet, with each episode I will incorporate various minigames (which may or may not find themselves in the final), different battle systems, different menu systems, different window box skins, status screens, different leveling/exp. gaining systems, etc, etc.

Of course, these are my hopes for future games. Being inexperienced, I'm practically afraid to voice these ideas aloud for the fear that, given my novice abilities, I may be unable to execute them.

I already have the preferred battle system for episodes 1-4, and the ultimate Cambridge game. Everything else (including the profoundness of the storylines, minigames, content, etc) is still being fleshed out, but it won't be long before I can begin working on Episode 2, which I am extremely excited about. :)

Anyway, I'm trying to set my ambitions high (but reasonable and obtainable), because I want this set of games to perhaps be a placeholder for me as a game designer. Not to mention the fact that if these come out right, people will be eager to play the other game titles that I have in mind. (And refraining myself from starting any of them is a rather painful process).

Anywho, I shall return, soon, with updates on the game.
