Yoshi’s Archipelago is the result of a community effort to collaborate and somehow make a solid Mario game. It's the sixth entry of the long-running Super RMN Bros. series, and the bar was raised higher than ever before. Months of testing and revising have paid off; it stands as one of the best!

This game uses its own version of Super Mario Bros. X (SMBX). It runs in v.1.3.0.1 and replaces several default assets. Once you download and extract it, open the program, click ‘Start Game’, and you’re ready to play!

The Plot
The Mario Bros. are on vacation with Peach in Yoshi's Archipelago, a group of exotic islands far from the Mushroom Kingdom. Of course, wherever they go, trouble soon follows. Bowser and his minions crash the party and kidnap the princess! The mission is clear, but something seems off about Bowser…whatever it is, there's work to do! Mario and Luigi hop to it with the help of Peach's bodyguard, Agent Toad!

So Many Islands
Yoshi’s Archipelago boasts a wide range of locales. From the lush plains of Green Grass Island to the frozen wastes of Slip Drip, all manner of alliterative areas await you! With 90 stages spread across 10 different islands, there's just tons to see!

Yoshis Everywhere!
As one may expect, the archipelago is home to many types of Yoshi. In fact, each island has its own local color! On top of a strong showing of everyone’s favorite dinosaur, this game is designed with Yoshi in mind. Levels are ride-friendly, and you'll never be forced to ditch your dino pal. You may have to dismount to climb a vine secret or two, but Yoshi will wait patiently for your return. Even bosses can be fought on green-horseback! Ride your rainbow of steeds to victory!

Flower Mode
Like its namesake, each stage contains five flowers (but almost no red coins, so don't worry). Gather all five and a star will appear at the end of the level. Stars can unlock bonus items, extra stages, and entire new islands! Although midpoints can’t save flowers, you can activate Flower Mode to gain additional power-ups for the hunt. There are 100 stars and more than 450 flowers, so there’s plenty to find and many rewards to be had! Even Lakitu’s shoe is an accessible prize!

Unlockable Characters
Only Mario and Luigi are available at first, but more characters can be unlocked as you progress. Peach may be kidnapped, but if you can save her from Bowser, she'll join you on the quest! Her hover ability and higher health give her an edge with flower gathering. With her help, you can discover all the archipelago’s secrets! Including other new allies...

Newbies and Veterans Welcome
This game offers something for all players. Newcomers will find the tutorial stage informative, while veterans will be happy they can skip it. Flowers and stars aren’t needed to complete the main quest, but there are challenges waiting for those who seek them. Each stage already contains what you need to find the flowers, but bonus items can make the search much easier. And for those who really want to go all-out, try the All Five All Five Challenge: get all five flowers as all five characters in every level. Some are much harder than others!

Two-Player Compatibility
If you have a local friend to play with, this game fully supports two-player mode. The only thing better than a grand adventure is having someone to share it with! Work together and conquer in co-op!

*EDIT Why do I always seem to snipe people on the forums?

I actually have a small-scale SMBX event in the works, to start in early-middle April.

I also don't believe the Olympic Games idea would work well. The idea of grading let's players on how they beat a level feels condescending or just plain elitist, regardless of actual intent. I don't think it would get much turn-out.
Without a recording of their performance, how could anything other than time and number of targets hit be judged? It's too easy to lie and it would defeat the purpose of the event if we can't see it.

If a person can't record with software, then use a phone. Set it up to point at the screen, record, play. If a person can't do either, then they can't participate. Not much else to be done there. Streaming and recording is becoming more common these days. I understand not everybody can, but it's easier than ever and not too much of a stretch.

The Hypercam2 software is free, a small download, and easy to use. It's pretty low tech so it should run on most low end computers. But it would just be one option, the person could use any method they want to record.

I don't think it's too weird that someone who wants to participate could choose a time they have free, and dedicate some time to download this and play it right away. I'm not going to get into details, but it wouldn't be as simple as uploading a file for everyone at once, to download and play whenever they want. There would be some coordination.

I never said that the video has to include any personal information, or even the RMN inbox. There are endless ways to send a person information that include timestamps. If I add you on any IM service, let's say Discord, I could send you a file and you would have a few minutes to open it, play it, and send a recording. I know when I sent you the file and I would know what time to expect a video. That way I know you're not running the level because you didn't have it until now, and if too much time passes it could be DQ'd for possible fraud. hahah Look, I'm not saying I've thought this out completely or that it's not silly or over...protective. But it can be deployed easily in a fair way that removes/reduces the chance of cheating. A person could get instructions and set everything up, test a recording, be totally prepared to receive the file and record it. Short video file, quick upload, done in 20 minutes.

But yes, it's all done to ensure nobody cheats. Why is that a bad thing? People will cheat if the opportunity is there. Even in the Olympics people cheat. If it's easy to remove that opportunity, why not do it?

Any person can make their own levels, or there could be a set of test levels made available for a time before the event. Practice there. But the actual runs themselves would be new to the player. All the basic skills are used, so it doesn't really matter if someone has seen this particular level before. They should still know how to jump, climb, and run.

This isn't THAT MUCH like the Olympics, it is Mario after all. Any mention of Olympics was more about the parody of Mario and Sonic game. This is more like... American Ninja Warrior. An obstacle course. And you can't compare this to a speedrun, because it's not about how fast you can one set level. This is about finding a way to test overall dynamic skill, reactions to new things is part of that. Doing the same level over and over until you master it, isn't really skill. That's just remembering. That could be a different type of event but it's not what I had in mind.

I'm making all this up as I go along, and I'm just thinking out loud. I don't know how well it would all work out or if I would even bother doing it. But the idea that it's elitist or condescending is kind of silly. It's competition. Are the Olympics elitist? Is the Stanley Cup playoffs condescending? Some people like to compete, it's that simple. E-Sports wouldn't be booming if that wasn't the case. If you don't like the idea and just play Mario for fun, then don't participate.

You're right, my mistake. I guess how I really feel about it is that the event in itself would be really silly and I can't exactly take it seriously. Not that it's meant to be some serious sport or anything either way.

I am the enemy I describe

Anywho, yay, featured gam! Now we just need a review! Maybe the review jam will help? *fingers crossed*

I thought Addit would've done one by now, but he was having tech issues last I checked.

After I had to take last week off, it's time to return with another streaming session! I'll be starting my journey into world 8 in about 2 hours. We're approaching the endgame, folks!

The struggle against the perils of world 8 has finally come to an end, but we're not done yet! The next installment of the Super RMN World 2 stream begins in about 2 hours! The true villain tried to escape into world 9, but we won't let him get away!

And that concludes this playthrough of Yoshi's Archipelago - at least for now. World 9 has been conquered, the villain has been stopped (maybe) (probably not), and even Neutral Nexus island is done and dusted! Perhaps I'll come back to this game for an extra session at some point in the future to tackle the remaining bonus levels and secrets, but for now, I think I've been able to show off most of what RMN World 2 has to offer.

Thanks again to everyone who created and submitted levels for this game, and to all of you who kept me company and cheered me on (and kept track of my lava deaths) during the streams. It was a lot of fun, and there will definitely be more streams on my channel in the future. And if you missed any or all of these livestreams, don't worry: All of them have been archived and kept ready for you to watch on my channel. See you hopefully soon!

Oh well, how can I say no to you?

Do I need to have collected all the stars from all previous levels in order to gain access to the Bonus Bonanza world?

The star requirement to go there is 75, so you should have it covered already. Only the final final level pocketwatch requires all of them.

I'm sorry to announce I won't be able to stream today, but next Saturday the Lost Levels Bonus Bonanza Island is going to get its fair share of attention after all. If anyone would like to volunteer to help me keep track of the lava deaths next week, it'd be much appreciated. There's probably going to be a lot.

Of course, but I think most of the threat in that stage is fire, not lava.

So we'll have to count fire deaths instead!
