No, they got it all wrong in the first SMW when they introduced Yoshi to begin with. In fact, I'm pretty sure the last good Mario game was Super Mario Bros. 2, and that wasn't even supposed to be a Mario game, so...

SMW2: Yoshi's Island was fantastic. One of my favourite Mario games. Top 5.

You have to go pretty deep into the weeds to find a bad Mario game. Even the below average ones are still pretty good.

Yoshi's Island is great and one of the best 2D platformer game of all time. Definitely a different experience from most other Mario games of the time though.

Actually, Doki Doki Panic was created by the same creators & had some connections to the Mario franchise before being rechristened as SMB2 (according to the Mario Wiki)

In my Mario All-Stars Anthology game I'm working on, I'm trying to recreate all the levels in SMB2, but with SMBX's limitations it's a pain, even with 2.0 (can't get a decently functioning Clawgrip to work). A lot of people from the SMBX forums are saying that SMB1 remakes a 'dime-a-dozen' but a SMB2 remake has yet to be made. I just hope I can pull it off.
