The wheels of creation have remained in motion for centuries. Human life has prospered, living out their lives fruitfully, free from His gaze. But now, He has turned His eyes to a sinful being who is about to be reborn...

For any other man, life continued as usual. For a man like Elioth, life took a turn for the insane. Member of the renowned Excavators Guild, he returns home one day to find his future wife unconscious. Stricken by a terrible disease called Blood Haze, he sets off with his brother and a dear friend in search of a cure. But does one even exist? Where does one start on this madman's hunt? The answers are not as they seem, the questions they have remain unanswered.

A war they cannot win, but one they will have to wage. Who will emerge victorious?
The forces of Heaven and Hell are on the move...

-14-18 hours of main storyline, spanning 4 chapters.
-12+ hours of side and post-game content. For those that like to explore, there is enough to do!
-A modified Free-turn battle system, implementing Press-turn features. Freely use up your turns with whichever character you like, but take note of their remaining stamina, for one cannot act without it. Hit weaknesses to gain extra turns, get punished when hitting resistances or when your weakness is hit by the enemy.
-A robust crafting system. Gather raw materials out in the world, or slay that one elusive rare monster for its hide, then turn it into superior armour and weapons.
-Over 500 pieces of armour and weapons, some powerful enough to grant unique special effects.
-Freely customize your characters with a plethora of skills. Gain points after every level up to use on learning new ones. Specialize in single elements, buffing, healing? It's up to you.
-Did I mention we've got SMT skills? Of course I did.

Chapter 1 released!

Yay, it's finally here! After a bunch of setbacks, the game is in a playable state without any major issues...I hope.
This release contains the entire first chapter of the game and should take about 3-4 hours to complete. You'll need WinRAR to extract the archive, though I assume most of you have that nifty program installed already.

The only real concern I have with the game in its current state is how it feels pretty easy, though that may be because I know everything there is to know. Then again, I don't want the game to be as hard as the original Blood Haze, at least not in the first chapter.
I also made some changes AFTER my playtest, hopefully none of them break the game in any way but if you run into anything major, make sure to let me know! I can still re-upload a new demo if needed, but once I start working on Chapter 2 that's going to be a lot harder.

==============================
PATCH 1.01 NOTES
==============================
-Increased player speed by ±15% (Please let me know if this breaks any events in the game)
-Removed a line of redundant dialog, changed some others and added a dialog box for when Marlene gives you some recovery items at the beginning of the game.
-A dialog box will now be triggered whenever a food effect expires.
-Replaced the Excavators Guild theme with the one from the original.
-Replaced the Nirram Mines theme, which is the theme for Gharos Ruins, with one from the original game.
==============================
PATCH 1.10 NOTES
==============================
-Replaced the lighting system with a newer version to get rid of lag. Includes dynamic shadows! *DUE TO THIS CHANGE, OLD SAVE FILES ARE NO LONGER COMPATIBLE*
-Removed Pathfinding script to reduce lag.
-Fixed some word wrap issues here and there.
-Fixed a softlock issue when completing Melanie's Sidequest.
-Fixed a softlock issue in Brynhildr's Realm.
-Fixed a softlock issue early on in the game if the player approaches the bed diagonally.
-Fixed an issue where pressing "No" when asked to proceed to the boss fight in Brynhildr's realm to cause the game to skip the fight and softlock.
-Fixed the issue with Harvest points not respawning properly if the player has any kind of Food Effect.
-Fixed an issue with the Confusion ailment causing the character to act on its own even after it was cured.
-Fixed an issue with a boulder north of Gharos Village.
-Fixed some spots where it was possible to go out-of-bounds or walk on impassable terrain
-Gharos Ruins is now slightly easier.
-Gharos Forest up to the hotel is now slightly harder.
-The fight against Chelsey is now easier.
-Enemies in the Nirram Mines are now slightly more resilient to damage.
-Increased the difficulty of the fight against Emissary.
-Replaced the reward of the Emissary fight from "Physical Booster" to "Fire Booster"
-Decreased the stats on the Messenger craftable item.
-Changed the behaviour of the Confusion ailment. If you are inflicted with it, you can no longer gain Extra turns with that character. For enemies, they can no longer gain the "Surge" state. (In the demo, confusion when used by the player still causes the old effect. Confusion used by the enemy uses the new effect)
-Reduced Escape success rate to 60% (down from 100%). Hard mode disables escaping entirely.
-Added two new "Gameplay Tip" statues to the game. These explain the different stats (ATK/SPI etc.) and Ailment effects.
-Enemies will no longer do a "walk up" animation when attacking with certain physical attacks.

The more game breaking bugs are found, the more patches!
Though at some point it has to stop.

It drops off of rare mobs in Chapter 3 areas: Gharos Forest South-east and Tartarus.
There aren't that many of them though so it's pretty hard to get, I'll add a few more of them in the next patch to make it guaranteed that you get one, since 3 total is pretty darn low (and makes it so you can go through the whole chapter without even getting one, which is not my intention).

Anyways, those 3 mobs all appear pretty close to each other, and the locations are:

Gharos Forest South-East 1st part:
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/23856/locker/Rare_Mob_route_1.png

Gharos Forest South-East 2nd part:
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/23856/locker/Rare_mob_route_2.png

Tartarus 2F:
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/23856/locker/Rare_Mob_route_3.png

So the route should be pretty obvious, go to Excavator's Guild to reset the rare mob switch, hope it doesn't land on switch 4 or 5 (which is hidden, unless you run the game through the editor and press F9 and look at the switches).
Then go to Gharos Forest South-East using the portal in the HQ. Look for the 2 rare mobs, if they aren't there make your way to Tartarus 2F and look if the mob is there. If it isn't you teleport back to the guild and try again.
There's a 60% chance you'll find a rare mob each time you do this, but I'll make it a 100% chance in the next patch.

EDIT: The patch is due for tomorrow.

I have one question, are there any monsters, fights, or bosses that basically scream "Screw you player! I'm just here to make your life miserable and force you to over level.
If you're playing Normal, there are (or should not be) any fights that require you to grind so long as you take good care of your character's equipment and skillset.

Hard mode is a different story, however. Though I didn't have to grind for more than 1-2 hours (total across the game) when I did my last runthrough on that mode.
Post-game is excluded (somewhat) from the above.
I have another question: Is there a way to reset CP usage? I was being indecisive about what rolls I wanted my characters to fill (made it even worse when the girl showed up and I had 6k CP to play with.) and wasted probably around 4-5k CP total if not more.

Also, that hotel is EEVVVIIILLLLL I was a few jumps away from muting the sound but then I realized there were a few audio changes that I might have needed to hear... So 3 cases of PTSD later I finally made it through and I hope to never have to set foot in that cursed place again! (Don't spoil it either way please)

As it turns out there IS a fight that's a big "Screw you player!" I forget the name of the monster but it was 4 of them and it happened in the forest. I got hit by 2 casts of megido and died without even being able to resist.

Also, would it be at all possible to switch the position of the guard and item options? I sometimes forget that the game saves the location of the cursor and hit down then continue reflexively.

Tooltip for Wizard Robe says MP instead of SP.

In act 2 I tried to go into the pub in the starting town. The reason I'm given for not being able to go in is that I need to get the cure to Cat as soon as possible. For the sake of Irony I went back to the house talk to Cat.
-There is no way to reset CP usage and it's also not something I'm considering adding in at this time. There really is no "wrong" way to spend it though, so long as you can cast every element at any given time, have a buff/debuff/healing spell + some passives you should be fine.

-I think I know the fight you're talking about, so I added a "preemptive" tag to that troop which I didn't do in this patch for some reason (why I don't even know). I might also consider getting rid of Megido on the Slither enemies. The chance for them to cast that is pretty low though, so having them cast it 2 times was just a stroke of REALLY bad luck, preemptive tag should help cause you can get rid of some of them on the first turn instead of getting insta-gibbed.

-There's no way to turn around the guard and item options, but you can however turn off the "Cursor memory" option so you at least know you need to press down two times for Guard and three times for Items at any point in time instead of having to remember on a character by character basis on where the cursor is.

-Tooltip fixed.

-Forgot to add a transfer event for "Chapter 2 start". Fixed now.

Thanks for the reports, feedback is always helpful in determining what needs to be changed :)
-Another thing I just realized. The game says the desert gets rain every single night. But that fact alone disqualifies it from being a desert. Since it's the lack of rainfall that defines a desert (mostly, and to the average person) you could probably play around with underground sources and even magical sources.
(Terra-forming ftw!)

-Sorry for nitpicking but you'll be seeing me here and there whenever something catches my eye. Normally I just ignore and continue on but this game is brilliant so I want to do my part.

-Are there any sort of special rewards for playing on harder difficulties? I always do a first run on the easiest setting just to feel out the game but since I'm a completionist I always go back and play it again (preferably on newgame+)

-Is there a way to get rid of unwanted synth spheres? Or to combine orbs and other low grade synth materials?

-BEST ARENA EVER!!!!! I'm going to be so horribly over-leveled by the time I'm done here though...

-Where is matador and can you still get to him in chapter 3?
-It's a VERY SPECIAL desert! The real world has nothing on the one in this game!
I actually just didn't really think about the world the players are in too much before I started this project originally, so the explanation of the rain was added in at the last second/half-assed/not thought through enough.( I just wanted a desert with rain ;_; )
Definitely not the strongest point in this project but I'm actually pre-planning everything for my next one so it should all work out a bit better and be more coherent.

-Playing on harder difficulties is just for bragging rights (and frustration). Next project will have harder difficulties that reward you. Though it works a bit different in general, and I probably shouldn't talking too much about it yet.

-Unfortunately there isn't a way to sell synth spheres, the way everything is set up script-wise makes that impossible. Combining the orbs is a possibility to add in however.

-It's funny that the EXP/CP/Gold rewards in the arena is like 1/3 of a normal fight out in the open, then again you can rapidly do fights without having to find mobs so I guess it evens out in that regard.
Not to mention the battle chips you can use to get gear and other items.

-The quest leading up to Matador is given by the hooded person right outside Caspadul. You can do the quest whenever you want but Matador's Essences allow you to craft armour that grants +75% resist to one element, so it's worth doing as soon as you can. Null Wind is your friend ;)

-Nitpicking is fine, gotta have something to talk about after all and you bring up points I wouldn't have thought of otherwise :)
-Normally I'd also be making comments about enemy difficult and spell strength but I'm over leveled by about 5-10 levels and I'm playing on easy. The megido string of spells do seem a tad strong though. Megidolo 1 hits every standard group mob with few exceptions.

-Can there be a way to just trash them then? (Though I do like the idea of combining them. That'd be interesting) Although I guess I could just go with plan b and synth them onto a equipment that I'm not using anymore and plan to sell or break down

-The whole synth system in general does seem a bit underwhelming though. When I first saw it, it seemed like it would become the linchpin of my character's strength and mastering the usage of it would be a necessity but after playing it just seems like a waste of time. The items take far to long to level up and the levels/CP you get while grinding up your weapons seem to be infinitely better then the stat bonuses you get from upgrading your weapons.

-I'm not sure what the capabilities are for the script but if you were able to synth status effects, buffs, on hit effects and various other desirables it would make it a much more meaningful system. I'm not sure what would balance out the leveling system the best. But I think making the items you use to synth into the limiting factor would be better then making the weapon itself the limiting factor (I do like that each weapon has a cap to the stats it provides though. But I don't like how you have to guess and check to find the max stat)

-I really hope your next project uses the same gameplay ideas as this one. The skill system is great (a little bit restrictive though :( not enough spots to spam passives XP), synth systems in general have always been a personal favorite and that arena is by far the most amazing arena I can remember.

-I had something else I wanted to say but I seem have to forgotten it.
