The RMW Chain Game has been in production for a couple months now. It is now complete, barring some polish: 11 chapters in total.

Storyline:

The Four Memory Songs - Sand, Fire, Water, and Wind - were sealed by the ancients to prevent an evil force from obtaining them. These songs only resonate with some people - the Shadowy Being is not one of them! So how does he obtain them? Hmm...

Join Gita, a daring adventuress, on her quest to find the Memory Songs. Along the way, she finds herself being deemed 'Eric the Silver Reaper'. Why is this? Play to find out!

What is a chain game?

I'm glad you asked. The idea is simple: everybody took a turrn creating a chapter in the game. When one chapter was finished, it was passed on to the next person in the chain. By the end, a bunch of people collaborated on one game!

This is a fun activity: everybody is invited to participate in future chain games. The idea is to just have fun with RPG Maker and make some games. Get goofy and enjoy yourself. Take a break from your serious project and throw together a chapter.

Part of the fun of making chain games is seeing how the storyline turns out. In this chain game, effort was taken to tie the plotlines together in the final acts and flesh out all the areas. Hopefully we succeeded! Thank you to everyone who participated and for keeping this thing alive to the end!

Gameplay:

Simple-yet-engaging battles, seven puzzle-driven dungeons, and plenty of exploration! Solve water puzzles, flip buildings upside down, create stepping stones, smash holes into walls, discover hidden treasure chests and paths...it's all here!

We actually just finished it, but I'm sure Despain and others will be hosting chain games in the future, on a variety of websites. Definitely keep looking for one to appear!

Good going, this is finally up and complete! :D

I'll give it a go soon now that it's finished (I kinda missed many chapters, since I usually had to redo everything in the game for each Chapter :p)

I love RPGs but puzzles aren't easy for elderly players :)
So this game finally gotten a home. Hope you all enjoy it because it toke a lot of work and Patience for a lot of us!

@Linkis
The puzzles arn't too difficult, but If your stuck just post here because some of the developers were pretty much play testers if you think about it.

Played some of it.

I ADORED the first chapter. I didn't think the shift key would actually be useful in a puzzle until I played that. I loved the timing elements in the dungeon and the items you could get were cool.

However, after that part, the fun kind of dies off a bit. It looks as if some doorknob decided that the game needed to be more of an RPG, introducing generic battles, rudimentary puzzles and dull fetch quests, not to mention OPEN EMPTY SPACES to run around in. I'd say the game no longer becomes fun around the time you reach the town (the mini-game with the maid cleaning the tombs was fun, though, too bad I'll probably never beat it with my awkward Xbox controller. xD).

I'll play some more, but WHYYYYY did this game need to shot itself in the foot after the sand temple? Also, you can save at any time in this game, so what's the point of save crystals?
That was a problem a while back, first someone decided to let you save anywhere, then someone added it so you can only save using the crystals, we all complained then it came to the point we went back to the ability to save anywhere and we were all to lazy to get rid of ALL of those crystals.

Oh, and there is much less open space here on out, you probably gone through almost half of the world (excluding dungeons) the field of chains and the rest of the third chapter was meant to make the game a lot less linear I think.

The main reason is that this was an experimental Chain Game, and it was expected to be passed down upon many different users who may or may not be as skilled at eventing or introducing complex puzzles, so each one contributed to the best of their ability (and, except for Chapter 1 which I don't know how long it took to make, we all had a quite limited time frame, just a couple of days, before we had to pass the game along).

I was partly responsible for starting the "dull RPG" section, but I felt I had to introduce the battle system (it was going to, sooner or later), but also tried to mix it the chapter with minigames, puzzles and such (and the difficulty is pretty low in general, so the quests aren't all mandatory).

I advise you keep playing, because there are some other fun puzzles (the inverse building is pure genius) and interesting things.
The only REALLY hard boss is the chapter 10 boss, but even then... the game was not meant to be hard.

My complaints never stemmed from the game being hard, (it's almost too easy, really)so much that it threw an unwanted curve ball after the beginning. This game would have honestly been better off without RPG battles, because in conjunction with Despain's first dungeon the game would have been both solid and consistent.

(Takes notes for the next chain game)
Is there an RTP version of this game? The game says I need the RPGVXAce RTP to play the game.

Ah, I'll make sure to include that on the next upload. Yeah, it does require the RTP.
I just finished the final product for the first time. I really wish I had more time to work on my chapter. What I did make had to be scrapped because I had to leave before I could really test it and flesh it out. Great job, Deckiller, for getting things together for the end nevertheless!

Also...

Eric wasn't supposed to be so terrible, I promise! Again, time and stuff... Deckiller is going to fix it in the next update.

Yeah, the way the ending plays out...it's basically like Xenogears Disk 2. There could easily be two dungeons in there...

The Temple of the Tempest and the Song Nexus

But we set up the next chain game! Maybe we can start talking about it soon...

One thing we could discuss are battles. The problem with chain games is that you can't really have an engaging battle system because it's so hard to balance between chapters, everyone has a different taste for battle challenge, and there just has to be many more layers of consistency. I still think an RPG should have battles, but perhaps they should be handled -after- the game proper is completed.

I still think you're better off without battles. Sure, it won't make it an rpg, but it would still be fun to play.

By the way, I want in on your next chain game! Can you fill me in? :D
