Added the title design to my game page

I have now completed and added the design of my game title to this page. Finally this game can stand out a little. The chaos sword itself also has an extended handle per critique.

Next job is to learn how to use CSS. :(

The titular "Chaos Sword"

The Chaos Sword is an otherworldly weapon once wield by the evil king during the Time of Darkness. Once, it was a standard long sword belonging to the noble swordsman Dunstan of Edgard. People say Dunstan was one with his weapon, and when he sold his soul to the evil god Beelzen, his blade, too, took on a new, wretched form. The sword now solemnly resides in Genocide Castle, located at the peak of the Dark Mountains.
Rumor has it that the evil king's spirit remains alive within the sword...

So this is what I did for this project today, I finally made the Chaos Sword this game is aptly named after. Next step to to put in a title and make sprites for it. I feel like my confidence in my ability to paint digitally was revived, a little, though. What do you think?

Finally got done with the icon set for this game, I may need to add more.

I might need to find a better font, too, because this one gets kookoo with long words.

Another accomplishment? Through uses of common events I have created a new enemy called Coon Thief. It evades attacks, steals your gold, and runs off like a bitch. It has a very specific order to its tactics, though, so I hope it doesn't give anyone TOO much trouble when I launch an updated demo with it. I'll post more info the closer I get to completion.

As a bonus, here's a drawing of the two main characters in this game:

A little messy, but I plan on using it as a base for line art and coloring, so that will come soon. As you can see, I also redesigned Samara to better fit with the era... Somewhere close to the middle ages, but the world of Chaos Sword isn't Earth. Whatever.

Stay tuned for more.

Characters page is up

Finally got around to posting the stats and bios of both the main and non-player characters in the game. It's going to be updated with some official artwork later, I just need to make them. You can find the page using the navigation bar.

Here are some things to understand about the profile pages of the playable characters:

Weapon Weapons are a locked equipment slot that serve more as a "passive ability" for a character than something that just grants extra damage stats. Weapons are unique to the character, and intended to give party members a particular niche that players can incorporate into their own battle strategies.

Since weapons work this way, how can characters gain increased stats? Here's how the equipment page is set up:

The "slot" area is where you can equip just about anything that can be equipped, including both offensive and defensive items, and you have three of these slots to choose from. The last slot, "boots", are for particular equipment items that increase AGI and have a few other effects, aptly named "boots". This way, you can arrange and even stack equipment in numerous ways to customize the character roster to your liking.

Moving on...

Stats The stats listed are the stats of a character at level 1. Beside them are increments that are added to the stat every time a character levels up. Generally, for MP and HP stats, scalings close to 50 are high, and 20 is the lowest. For every other stat, +5 is the highest per level scaling, +3 is average, and +1 is the lowest.

A second thing to consider: the level cap of all characters is level 20. This is done to save the player some time when grinding to level up. How this relates to the stat pages is how the characters final stats (taking to account no equipment attached to characters) will be.

For instance Orianna's base 7 MAT looks terrible, but having a +5 scaling in that stat per level, and leveling up 19 times to get to level 20 she lands on (19 * 5) + 7 = 102 MAT at her final level.

So that is most of what you need to know in regards to reading these profiles. I'll try to get some artwork up soon, and I'll update with each character's skill set later on.

Progress Report - 5/13/2013

Since's Indrah's feedback on the RSW demo, I've made quite a lot of changes that will hopefully make this game a much more enjoyable experience.

* I've added a regen script that will regenerate your party's health after level up. I still need to tweak the increments.

* Rebalanced a few enemies to make them less of a threat at the beginning of the game. This game isn't supposed to be easy, but the early parts of Leviwood forest were too much to throw at players.

* Changed most of the dialog to include less shifty English dialects. They will still exist in this game, mind you, but what I've done so far will hopefully make it less prevalent so that it's not in the way and a bit more consistent.

... Enough about that, however, here is what I did today:

Finished and recolored an NPC set for this game. They'll be much more, including fat people, different ethnicities, and ages coming soon. Right now I want to make this game look visually consistent in addition to being playable. More progress will come tomorrow.

Announcement

RSW Demo Released!

After a full blown month of grueling work, I finally managed to put out a quick demo of Chaos Sword!

The RSW demo contains many default RTP graphics that will eventually be replaced by custom ones.

Some skill animations won't play, such as Oreh's 100 EP skill.

The first boss is indeed a recolor of Killing Machine from Dragon Quest, but he will not remain this way for long!

Look for it in the downloads page and enjoy! Please leave feedback on the game page.
