Ulstern’s Alchemy Guild has received a secret tip on the whereabouts of Tarneus’ tomb, rumoured to hold the Elixir of Immortality.
However, Tarneus disappeared before anyone could see if this was true, and the place has remained a mystery until now.
The party will travel to the tomb, hidden deep underground, and discover the results of Tarneus' research.

Alma is a Magic Engineer and Isaac’s wife. Isaac is an alchemist, sent by the guild to explore the tomb. He asks his nephew Ellis, a young Illusionist studying at Vlad’s Magical Academy, to come along to disable the spell sealing the tomb’s entrance. Ezekiel is the priest who offered the guild the information, and is their guide to the tomb.

-Made in two weeks (two very stressful weeks x.x) for the Release Something Weekend.
-Conditional Turn Battle System (CTB)
-Four totally different character classes.
-Both humorous and serious storyline (some dark themes).
-Complete game takes around two-three hours to complete (your mileage may vary.)
-The game is part of the Arum universe. (See if you can spot all the cameos in the credits!)

May I say again this game was made in two weeks? Actually more like three days, since most of the combat, systems, eventing and writing (and hah, testing) were done in that time.
To reach the deadline we had to skip many things. Fancy effects, custom icons and character graphics (except combat sprites and title: Eagles and Scinaya did us some badass materials there!).
We will undoubtedly find minor (and hopefully not major) bugs here and there post-release. We will probably release a patch to that soon, so be gentle: that was three extremely stressful days towards the end XD
(Also I feel I must say that this entire torture was just because Fomar wanted the Full Game achievement >C)

And please, PLEASE! For the love of all that’s holy and sacred to you, give us your feedback!
This was a lot of work and it really makes us feel like it paid off when we hear your opinions on the game, and keeps us motivated to make more games.
So tell us who your favourite character was, if you liked the plot, did you defeat the secret boss…anything! We love hearing from you guys.

Just finished this and Dead Moon Night - damn you guys are amazing.

(Favorite character is Alma, btw!)

Wonderful game! How did you guys make this in such a short time? I had so much fun and the dialogue and interaction between characters was epic! Pudding was my favourite character and I want too see him and a grown up Ellis in your next games. The dialogue after the final battle had me laughting for a couple of minutes. Alma and Isaac were such a cute/twisted couple and Ezekiel was a surprise! :D The thing that bothered me were the very strong monsters and the fact that they were not visible at all. I hope all of your next releases will have visible monsters. Good luck with all of your future projects! :)

We did on map encounters in the grumpy knight which it suited, later games have had encounter icon warning you when an encounter is coming. You could always escape encounters with smoke bombs. I like the idea of grown up Ellis but it'll have to wait a bit longer. Sunken Spire is set 2 years after in search of immortality, so Ellis is currently still in his teens. Also thanks we've got a few projects on the go at the moment, hopefully some of them will be done soon.

Well you're in luck Alma has another playable outing - Sunken Spire. Though if you're playing more of our games you might want to check out the grumpy knight first as another protagonist in Sunken Spire first appears in it. Anyway glad you enjoyed it!
Hi,

I have the following error :

Script 'OnlineAchievements' line 20:
Encoding::UndefinedConversionError occurred.

"\x93" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8

can you please send me a game without the online achivments if possible?
Will do if this doesn't fix it, add a file to the directory in where you see Game.exe, Game.ini etc - "playoffline.txt"
It works! its alive!!!! Thank you!

But it's strange because i have played "The Grumpy Knight" in the past
with the online achievements just fine and now icant open it either it pops up the same error.
do you know why??
No way Fomar did this... I must say, this is the best BEAT Rpg maker game I have played so far? Would you mind if I used the BGM? Just the battle music?

We are against people using stuff off our games directly, so please do not.
The music is from Rengoku Tien, please go find it yourself.

First person to say that to me :(

Well, I guess this will have to be like this :D

No music will be used...
Just finished this~
While the battle mechanism is great, I felt that mobs are too easy to kill, except some that have ridiculous defense/Ezekiel's attacks.

Mind you, I beat the final boss without the boss had a chance to attack me lol
Or maybe my habit of playing FF/Persona is the one to blame :v
Here's what I do:
-Give Ellis a decent AGI so he can use Illusion of Haste ASAP.
-Isaac, use any item that give POW buff to Eze.
-Alma use Uber Analysis with Terrifying Stare mod, to lower enemies' DEF.
-Make Ezekiel do the kick-ass :v
Usually I use Earth Shaker then kill remaining enemies with Drain Hammer/Overkill.
With 160 POW and abusing Eze's OP fast turn condition, I can gain 4000++ Overkill in just 1-2 moves. I'm suprised the final boss has little HP lol.

So yeah, I suggest increase some enemies' stats, especially final boss :v
Got this in the RPG Maker Humble Bundle, just finished it. I found the combat mechanics very interesting, though I'd imagine they wouldn't be for everyone; they seem to be all about exploiting the rules in very situational ways, as opposed to most RPGs which attempt to simulate a sensible reality. Fun characters too.

Oh, interesting UI detail: I didn't notice that the characters' mod slots were increasing past three (the amount that shows up in the equipment menu if you don't scroll downward) until after I reached the final boss and failed against him once. X) More the Maker's fault than yours I suppose, but something to bear in mind. At least it made for a challenging and engaging game getting that far with lower stats than I could've had.

no escape from battles!?!?!

outside of alma i dont understand how skill learning works

live flame boss has WAAAAY to much life!
would of lowered it by at least 500

could not for the life of me figure out how to cure poison in battle!

i loved the characters and interactions between them. the mapping was good too.
but the battles i could do w/o it was tedious and depressing.
recommend for people who dont hate turn based battles and want good characters.
This game is amazing! I find that it's kinda difficult, but I like that!!!
Game is really good! I liked how the battle system is very different from the usual ones~ The character dialogues were pure gold and I legit got interested in the universe of the game.
I didn't played in hard mode, but the final boss battle was kinda... easy. Alma had too much skills if I can say, I think she could be focused in something more precise rather than being able to heal, buff, deal damage, etc. I buffed Ezekiel with plenty of ATK+ DEF- equips plus the focus target, and even so he tanked pretty well.

Again, I played in the normal mode and I understand how rushed it was to make a game in only 2 weeks, but to make a game like this in only two weeks was rather impressive! I can't pick one favorite character =)

Thank for for the kind words, funny story with the final boss, I accidentally typed one zero too many originally... Indrah fought him for over half an hour...

Being as you liked the battle system and the characters, another of our games, Sunken Spire features a slightly more refined version of the battle system with Alma and Ezekiel returning. Though Sunken Spire also follows on from The Grumpy Knight as well as In Search of Immortality, it acts as a sequel to both.

Anyway really glad you enjoyed it and thank you for letting us know, it's always nice to hear from people who've played our games.

PS: My prefered strategy was to buff Isaac's agility to the point where he gets multiple actions in a row, I had to nerf agility since the original release because he could get 15-20 actions in before anyone else if fully exploited.
The download link for this game seems to be broken, could one of the game devs please fix it?
Thank you for brining it to our attention, it should be fixed now.
