1. ALDER - KNIGHT/WARRIOR

PERSONALITY:
A skilled mercenary who chose to follow the path of the Knight, in spite of his desired field of work. Due to this, Alder has an interesting mix between strict adherence to laws and morals and the courage and motivation to go against laws or particular morals if the situation demands it. This makes him a more than capable of employee to anyone seeking his aid. He is quiet and serious, and does not enjoy needless banter and straying from duty. Alder enjoys having a strict action plan and tries his hardest to follow it in his exactness. However, years of experience has taught him that not everything goes according to plan, and he is prepared to deal with that. Some may call him heartless, but he is capable of loving and liking others, if he deems them worthy of his care. Alder is also quick to judge and label other people. Alder is extremely dedicated to his missions, and will spend boundless energy and time into them until they are completed. When things confuse him, he tends to avoid dealing with them until he sees a way to do so. He is not a fan of 'winging it'.
With such a personal disregard for most other people, Alder tends to reduce other people's opinions and ideas as wrong and foolish. His way is the right way to him, and his way can become the way of others if it makes sense to him. Alder is homosexual, and it is only slightly insinuated until a certain character comes along.

IN BATTLE:
Alder is a Knight, doing very well in physical combat. He has the highest DEFENSE stat of any other character by a lot. His attack is also exceptional. He is painfully lacking in Magic and Magic Defenses. In battle he utilizes the Chivalry skillset, which after some use will evolve into decent physical attacks that have added effects. Alder also serves as a poor healer in emergencies. He is mostly a tank character who can also deal good amounts of damage, a must in any party. His Cover skill is very useful, with Alder's exceptional defense he can take a lot of the damage for everyone else before being struck down. Unfortunately it lowers his Attack and Critical rates while applied.

Such tragedies in her life have aged her personality. She appreciates the outdoors, nature, and art. She has a close connection with animals and monsters alike, able to learn their abilities and form close bonds with gentler ones. Solitary, Kara is afraid of becoming too close to anything.
She cannot handle losses very well, and completely avoids people, who are to emotionally complex as she is. Even with that, she is very short tempered. Kara is considered a beautiful woman but is disgusted at the prospects of having a relationship with another person. As such, she identifies as Asexual. When confronted with problems, she will either violently react out of confusion or rely on someone else to guide her.

3. VICKTOR - BERSERKER

PERSONALITY:
Vicktor is soon to be the leader of his village, Prima Vista. He has trained as Berserker, having an avid interest in weight training and combat. He is cocky and domineering, and loves taking charge in all situations. Vicktor is also impatient and violent, which go hand in hand to form a very short fuse, like Kara. But, unlike Kara, he is much more assertive and extroverted, and is not afraid to speak his mind, even in the worst moments to do so. Even with the red-hot blood coursing through his veins, Vicktor has a hard time dealing with change that happens to quickly.
He is anxious, and worries about things he often has no control over. Even though Alder is the rightful leader of the group, Vicktor feels the constant need to assert domincance over him, often trying to get the group to make decisions his way instead. Alder is calm and collective enough to keep him under control. In the face of danger, Vicktor enteres an uncontrollable rage where he has virtually no logical thoughts and focuses only on fighting. Vicktor is often inconsiderate of other's emotions, and teases others relentlessly. Still, his strength is a very valuable contribution to the group, and he can be calm and reserved often enough so he doesn't inhibit the group's actions.

IN BATTLE:
Vicktor is a Beserker, and is a huge player in battle. Physical combat is what he does best. His available weapons are already some of the higher attack power weapons, but he has a very high attack power. Combined that with Berserk and you've got yourself one very powerful damage dealer. While he has a very high HP, Attack, and Agility stats, he has low defense, virtually 0 Magic, and very little Magic Defense. This makes him particularly susceptible to magic. If you are willing to sacrifice defense and control of one of your characters for pure offensive power, Vicktor is definitely a good option to have in the party.
Command Ability: Berserk - Lose control of Vicktor until this state wears off. Increases ATK, CRI, and AGI sharply.

4. ARIEL - HEALER/PRIESTESS

PERSONALITY:
Ariel is the town healer of Adot, the daughter of two people heavily involved in Adonism. She has all of the personality traits you would expect of someone in her field of work. She is nice, gentle, caring, worrisome, responsible, chaste, trustworthy, loyal, and generous. She is a devout follower of her religion, and wishes to rise in the ranks of worship to lead all Adonites to strive closer to perfection in their reverence of Adon. When she hears from Alder about the mission he has been given, she feels drawn toward it, as if Adon himself was speaking to her, telling her to join the group of people. Still reluctant to leave Adot, she gets the consent of her parents to leave, mentioning the feeling of Adon. Ariel is first to rush to the aid of an injured person, and dislikes killing things. The only exception is the Undead, which she is beyond scared of. Coincidentally, it's her abilities that best deal with the Undead.

IN BATTLE:
Ariel is a Healer, restoring ally HP, removing negative statuses, and buffing them up. She has the worst attack, below average defenses, and low defense. However, she has high MP, great Magic, high Magic Defense, and above average luck. Although having her isn't required, she is very helpful and will take a lot of weight off your wallet with her healing spells. She doesn't do much damage, but is very effective at handling Undead enemies and keeping allies in check. A very reliable person to use, but later on Semiya may be another option if you recruited her.

5. DEON - SAGE/BLACK MAGE (OPTIONAL CHARACTER)

PERSONALITY:
A bitter and sarcastic excommunicated follower of Adonism, Deon appears to be evil and have bad intentions. He discovered at a young age he had a talent for magic and could even summon a creature to do his bidding. Unfortunately for him, the summoning of those creatures is forbidden. He did it accidentally when he was young, but was pardoned for not knowing any better. He is rude, bashful, and selfish. As such, he did not go far in Adonism in spite of his ambitions to become High Priest. He has a shaky and often violent relationship with Ariel's father, Triton. In his last conflict with him, he got angry enough to summon a forbidden creature to attack Triton, but was quickly put down by Triton's holy might and forbidden from ever praying to Adon and setting foot in a temple again. Deon however, is not evil, and wants Adonism as much as any other follower. He does want revenge for what happened between him and Triton.

IN BATTLE:
Deon is a Sage, meaning he can proficiently use Magic on his enemies. Deon has very low HP, the worst of all characters. Terrible Attack, very low agility, and very terrible defense. Fortunately, he has the highest MP of all characters, the highest Magic of all characters, and very good Magic Defense. He can't take damage very well at all, but his abilities well compensate for his lack of physical power. His magic spells can utilize their weaknesses against various elements, and he can learn debuffs as well. The most remarkable trait of Deons, perhaps surpassing his aptitude for magic spells that no other character can use, Deon can summon a creature into battle to take his place. There are four different called beings that Deon can summon, and as you travel throughout the the world you'll find the other 3 he doesn't come with. These creatures are powerful, and can be utilized in various battle strategies. Deon is optional, but he is definitely worth recruiting into your party, as his role is hard to replace.

6. SEMIYA - CHEMIST (OPTIONAL CHARACTER)

PERSONALITY:
A stubborn and headstrong chemist, she has a magical aptitude for synthesizing. She is the daughter of Godtree's synthesis guru, and even started her own place in Pahoe City, with much success. She thinks very carefully before she acts, and refuses to co-operate unless given a solid reason to. She is quiet and speaks very rarely. She does not consider herself a part of the party, even though she does venture with them and completes the mission with them. She speaks with a strange accent and isn't very open about anything about herself, making it seem like she has something to hide. She gets along with Athena very well, both of them being highly educated and intelligent women.

IN BATTLE: (THIS CLASS NEEDS WORK)
Semiya is a Chemist, meaning she can choose from pre-defined skills to create mixes that have beneficial effects on allies and the user. She has low HP and MP. The rest of her stats are pretty average. She mixes items to give them greater effects, and can buff herself or allies with abilities like Mutetouch which will allow them to mute their targets on attack. She fulfills an offensive support/healing role, and is a mediocre fighter. Her versatility can prove useful to a player lacking variety in their party. She is also one of the few characters that can utilize Guns, which ignore defense.

7. CYPRESS - ENCHANTER

PERSONALITY:
A long lost childhood friend of Alder's, Cypress is the son of the mayor of Shadetown. Living an affluent life, even in the desolate Shadelands, has spoiled him very much. In spite of hsi combat training and magic ability, he is a coward in most respects and very snobby. Though he isn't rude enough to directly let someone know just how low he thinks of them, his actions and general demeanor lets everyone know he thinks highly of himself. He is very finicky and picky, and is always looking for the easy way out of everything. Fortunately, he isn't all that worthless, as he is loyal and knowledgeable about the Shadelands. His affluence in the area can be used to help the party get past several obstacles and even get discounts. He is especially close to Alder. Even though he is the son of a leader, he does not like leading, but bossing others around so he can get what he wants.

IN BATTLE:
Cypress is an Enchanter. His stats are rather mundane, around average for the most part besides MP and Magic. He has a decent attack stat, and with the right equipment he can become a decent fighter for your team. His real strength however, lies in his abilities. Some of his abilities, like Silver Bullet, can make his attacks 4x more effective against certain enemy types! This a VERY useful ability, and it well makes up for his mundane stats. If he were to land a critical hit with power like that, he would do TWELVE TIMES more damage against an enemy than if he were to use a regular, not buffed attack. Similar to Semiya's abilities, he can use a few abilities, like Poison Blade, that buff him with the Poison state on his attacks. He can even buff his allies! Cypress is a useful character after you have gotten more of his abilities, and can do a lot of damage before taking a heavy hit.
Command Ability: Veil - Nullifies all magic damage done to the party at that instant. (Used first and protects the party until all battlers have acted.(
Weapons: Swords, Axes & Hammers, Staves & Spears
Armor: Fighter Armor, Shields, Helms, Accessories, Mage Armor

8. ESMA - WEAPONDANCER (class is subject to change)
http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/15157/locker/EsmasFace.png
PERSONALITY:
A Kymed woman whose was born in Shadetown. She is an excellent dancer, having come from a long line of dancers. Her father is a retired guard from Pahoe, and through her childhood she developed a passion for weapons and fighting. She dances at a local pub, a real display of weapon mastery and dancing. She is very passionate about her two interests. She is playful and loves to tease and make little jokes. At first she just seems like a talented woman, but in danger she clearly displays her proficiently in weapondancing, using her weapons to obliterate her enemies. Alder is curious about it, and realizes that she is a magi. She asks a lot of questions, and her curiosity seems to always get her in trouble. She has a history with Cameron's forces, a negative one. As long has no orders to deal with her, she is happy to join the party. She acts mostly on what she feels, and is very sensitive about the feelings of people. Vicktor, who is very fiery, likes her attitude. She has insecurities about what other people think of her, and being a crowd pleaser, aims to make people happy and accept her in to their groups.

IN BATTLE:
Esma is a weapon dancer, a class that resulted from the combination of her two interests, weapons and dancing. She has high HP, a decent attack, below average defense, magic, and magic defense, and very high agility and luck. She can equip various different types of weapons, which is an important part of her Weapondance skill. She learns no skills. She has the ability to wield two different weapons, which is very beneficial to her attack power. Her main ability is Weapondance, which performs a random 'dance' skill influenced by which weapons she is wielding. The random dance skills are usually very effective, but randomness is a drawback as some of the attacks are elemental. With two weapons and optional attack buffs, Esma can be a very strong fighter for your team. One drawback is that she has absolutely no magical ability at all, and it is definitely advised not to ever bring her where physical attacks won't be very effective.
Command Ability: Weapon Dance - Performs a RANDOM skill based on the weapons Esma is wielding. They are all physical attack skills, some are elemental, some inflict statuses. There is a chance that she will forget her moves, making her experience recoil and doing nothing to the enemies. Can be very powerful. If you want to AVOID forgetting your moves or the "Flail" skill (which does random and sometimes worthless damage), it is best that you equip two DIFFERENT weapon types. A Sword and a hammer for example, will open up tons of moves for you to use. NOT ALL WEAPON TYPES GIVE YOU NEW DANCES. (Bows & Crossbows for example.)
Weapons: (CAN DUAL WIELD) Claws & Fists, Swords, Axes & Hammers, Staves & Rods, Spears & Poles, Bows & Crossbows, Guns, Miscellaneous
Armor: Mage Armor, Helms, Accessories, Female-Only
Skills Available:
NONE AVAILABLE

9. PANDORA - BLOOD KNIGHT (OPTIONAL CHARACTER)

PERSONALITY:
Pandora is a blood knight, she has been training on her own since she was young. Wandering the Shadelands, she has no social interactions with people at all. When she is approached, she seems shady and mysterious. Her eyes have a starry and distant look to them, and glow a peculiar color. She is solemn and nearly expressionless, and rarely speaks a word. Considering she has no formal education and has not had any sort of interaction with any human since she was a young child, she understands the human language very well. When she speaks, it is not a human voice, but the monotonous voice of a dark soul. Her mouth does not open. She is quick to take damage in place of others, not because she cares about them, it's just something she can tolerate far better than anyone else. She also has no problem hurting anyone else, even her allies. When Alder and party observe her abilities slaying a monster, they are suprised. Alder asks her about it, and she does not reply. She begins emitting a dark aura, and the dark voice introduces herself as Pandora, a Blood Knight. She walks to them and says nothing else, joining their party.

IN BATTLE:
Pandora is an interesting character in battle. She has the highest HP, low MP, very very bad Magic and Magic Defense, poor Agility, and terrible Luck. She has average defense and the highest attack in the game. As her stats would indicate, she is very good at doing damage. She has various skills to use, a lot of them being HP cost skills. Many of them involve hurting herself or others for some other effect. She can even render herself undead! She also possesses a few powerful magical skills but won't be put to much use because of her low magic power. Her role is up to the player, but she is quite sadistic.
Command Ability: Shadow Form - Pandora is aided by a shadowy specter, increasing her Magic parameters by 3x and physical by 1.5x. Boosts the power of all elemental skills she possesses by 2x. (This should put her near the range of Kara's Magic power.) 15 turn cooldown.
Weapons: Swords, Axes & Hammers, Spears & Poles

Skills Available: (Esoterica)

10. ATHENA - COSMIC

PERSONALITY:

Athena is a young scholar found in Adon's Library, a large and abandoned place full of arcane books and strange creatures somewhere in the Shadelands. She spends a lot of time here, frequently visiting to learn more about ancient history and magic spells. She is well aware of the fact that she is a Magi, and realizes the importance of Alder's mission when he tells her about it. However, she does not want to join a cause with a bunch of imbeciles, so she gives you a challenging riddle which must be solved in order for her to join you. Athena is scatterbrained and random, she also spaces out, off in her own world and when she comes to she often interjects things that have nothing to do with the matters at hand. She is kind and has an overall friendly personality. She is also very excitable.

IN BATTLE:
Athena is a Cosmic. She has low agility, defense, and luck. Her HP is on the low side as well. She has fairly decent ATK. She has good magic power and magic defense, as well as MP. She utilizes Cosmagic in battle, which has buffing/debuffing, as well as non-elemental magic spells. Her command ability allows her to learn more about monsters. Her non-elemental magic is universally useful, and she can use two weapons no other character can, tomes and dolls. Tomes disable the attack command and add a new skill, Recite, which will randomly cast Magic or Healing spells based on the individual tome. Dolls have special effects and often inflict statuses. She has access to spells like Banish, which will Void them, essentially removing them from battle. She is the only person who knows how to nullify Void. She can be very useful, but if you don't know what you are doing can be a poor character at the same time.
Command Ability: Examine - Look at an enemy to reveal it's parameters and other information. Accessible by pressing the SHIFT KEY when targetting an enemy.

Pretty good cast of characters. I'm interested to find out what happens to Alder and Cypress because, yeah, I'm simple like that.

Making all your skills at once never worked out well for me. Be careful not to turn 80% of those into useless usefuls.

Some enemies will have immunity to some of the statuses caused by the skills, but the skills will definitely not be worthless. Some enemies can remove these by themselves, and the states do wear off naturally. Don't worry, I do value my debuff characters :D

Thank you! I tried for variety, I am not sure if that was achieved or not. Haha I love that you noticed Alder and Cypress were a thing (unless i already said that in which case still good job)
Is it just me or most of the characters are physically atk orientated. Out of 10 more than half are physical.
I was interested in Esma, I ussually don't like randomness at all in a class but I thought her fighting style was quite intereseting and unique, especially for an RPG Maker game.

Magic doesn't play as large of a role as it normally would, and statuses are given more prominence. There are also more ways to take an enemy aside from spamming physical attacks (which might not work well) and elemental weaknesses. I have a lot of status effects in the game and I would love for them to be utilized. I do have a list of characters I consider Physical and Magical oriented, albeit without a "Both" or "Neither" category.

Physical vs Magical
PHYSICALLY-ORIENTED CLASSES:

ALDER - KNIGHT
VICKTOR - BERSERKER
PANDORA - DARK KNIGHT
CYPRESS - ENCHANTER
ESMA - WEAPONDANCER

MAGICALLY ORIENTED CLASSES:

KARA - MONSTER MAGE
ARIEL - HEALER
DEON - SAGE
SEMIYA - CHEMIST
ATHENA - COSMIC

Most characters have a way of inflicting a status ailment or letting other characters or themselves inflicting status ailments. So categorizing them by that would be irrelevant.
Though if i were to make the list more accurate, i guess it would be something like:

PHYSICALLY ORIENTED CLASSES:

ALDER - KNIGHT (he is just a physical attacker with physical attacks that inflict some statuses, healing a little, cover)

VICKTOR - BERSERKER (definitely a physical oriented class)

PANDORA - BLOOD KNIGHT (she DOES have a few magical abilities later on, but she doesn't really do any magic, her magical stats are too bad for it to be extremely useful) she uses her own health to have various effects)

CYPRESS - ENCHANTER (he can 'enchant' himself to do 4x damage to certain enemy types, and let him and others inflict several different statuses, but is otherwise physical)

ESMA - WEAPONDANCER (pure physical, with some added elemental status to attacks)

MAGICALLY ORIENTED CLASSES:

ARIEL - HEALER (she is not physically oriented. she heals and can damage with •Dia, •Diara, •Holy which are light elemental, she is purely magic oriented)

DEON - SAGE (he is also very not physically sound, he uses elemental spells and can summon)

ATHENA - COSMIC (she is purely magic, she has an okay attack below Kara's, but she attacks with Dolls and Tomes so her attacking is much different so she pretty much has no choice but to be magically oriented)

MIXED ORIENTATION:
SEMIYA - (slightly less physically competent than Kara, she can heal and buff and let other allies debuff with a wide range of statuses.)

KARA - MONSTER MAGE (she is physically competent, that doesn't mean she can compete with the physically oriented characters, and she is magically competent and her Monster Magic spells have several different elemental magic abilities which is a good source of magic power in the game)

So I guess there are more physically oriented than magically oriented, but really in a way they all have mixed abilities. The game is going to be built around their class capabilities and what is available to them, where certain characters will be vital for a fight. Some of them may look similar, but they all have traits that obviously separate them.
I'm going to assume there's an item that scans weaknesses, right? How are you going to balance that without making Athena's Examine spell ungodly useful/semi-useless?

There are no other items that scan enemy weaknesses. Athena's Examine spell is a way of learning information about an enemy IN BATTLE. After slaying an enemy, their information becomes available regardless of whether she used it or not. With information available about their stats and elemental properties, the player can choose what they want to do.

So I guess in a way it's not extremely useful. Though all enemies and bosses can be scanned.

edit: added information about which characters are optional

I definitely think it's a useful skill for bosses!

Very useful, not all bosses make it apparent which elements they are weak to, same with enemies. Or their physical appearance according to the player may not indicate what they think it is indicating as far as what they are 'probably' weak against.

Yep. Too useful.
Unless states aren't up to the standards you want them to be, a normal player is going to have Athena for every boss battle, or use her at the start to write down enemy weaknesses, before replacing her with a better candidate.

So I honestly don't think there's a place for the Examine skill. I save both the player and myself time by letting all that information be given automatically. It's a good idea to get the player in a habit of looking at enemy weaknesses as soon as possible.
The amount of strategy in that alone can hold your game IMO~

Maybe have it to only target bosses? (Sounds weird as I type it) but that way the player can learn strengths and weakness of the non-boss creatures for themselves and then have the information available after the battle.

I think beyond her other uses, it makes her extra special in that way. Because as fresh players progress they won't always know what they will be facing.
If someone chooses to use her for that sole reason alone I believe that is cool for player control.
I think if people look at a character in a different light than what is originally intended that you succedded in allowing the player some freedoms.

Then again, I am a fan of scan/examine skills because it's up to the player to utilize them or not.

Examine doesn't reveal status resistance, I have too many to fit. But they wouldn't need to write their weaknesses down, once she Examines an enemy, it will always be available. Same if you were to defeat that enemy. All Examine is doing is giving you the information BEFORE you ever slay an unexamined enemy. Which does make it very useful against bosses. So yes, I see your point.

So what I plan to do is pull the Examine skill, and let all information be available automatically. And in exchange I'll have to find a more relevant replacement.

Also, I think it's important to know that these characters aren't available to you at the start of the game, if that is causing any confusion.

Alder and Kara go around the regions recruiting two mandatory characters and CAN recruit two optional characters. Once they go to the Shadelands however, they CAN'T recruit those characters anymore. (subject to change) In the Shadelands, there are THREE mandatory characters you'll come across, and one OPTIONAL character. (Pandora) So in other words you can't choose from 10 characters at the start of the game. You can however, re-arrange your battle party.

Just clarifying.
5. DEON - SAGE/BLACK MAGE (OPTIONAL CHARACTER)

PERSONALITY:
A bitter and sarcastic excommunicated follower of Adonism

Hilarious! You named an entire religion in your game off of your own username – that’s awesome!

So, I’m guessing that you’ll only be able to have a total of 6 playable characters in your party out of the 10 during one playthrough, since Alder and Kara are mandatory along with two other characters. That’s pretty cool. I guess that means multiple playthroughs and save files! Are these optional characters very difficult to recruit on your team (sidequests / etc. to get ‘em?) or is it kind of obvious, like answering a multiple choice scenario during a particular scene in order to get one character over the other?

Looking at the list thus far, I want Pandora and Deon as my optional characters. Deon because I absolutely love black mages (although, judging by some of the comments made already, they seem a bit useless in this game – but no matter), and Pandora because the whole Blood Knight class concept intrigues me a little.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see how they pan out in the actual game with their personalities and combat skills in battle. So far so good, Adon! :D

It seems a little self righteous and self-centered right? Haha I think Adon means something like lord of lords, and I am making the darn game so why not give myself credit inside of the game? Haha there are other minor 'gods' in the game as well.

My wording is always so misleading, here is how it goes: Alder and Kara are mandatory as in you get them when the game starts. That's what mandatory means; getting the characters by progressing thru the story line. It is possible to have all 10 Characters in your party during one play through, as long as you don't skip out on getting Deon and Semiya.
Entering Semiya's shop starts a scene that will require you to prove to her that your cause is worthy of her joining. Which you won't be able to do until you've recruited Vicktor, a mandatory character. Once you got him, you go back to her shop and do a scene, then she joins your party.
Deon is a character that is part of the events going on in Adot, the only town in the Jungle Region, and the center of Adonism. He is recruited by searching for him, many of the paths in the Jungle Region have nothing to do with the story, and it's easy to get lost. Ariel and Deon are childhood friends, so when they find him she asks him to join and he agrees.

The only character with a multiple choice scenario is the required character Athena. Your trapped in the library until she is recruited.

Pandora and Cypress are my two favorite characters, and yes, Pandora's skillset was interesting to make. And Black Mages aren't entirely useless, they just aren't the Armageddon they usually are in games like Final Fantasy. It's just that the player can survive without him.

Thank you~!
