My self-indulgent mess of a first game, starring an entire cast of dogs!!
Made with RM2k3 with the goal of being the happiest, least scary game ever made on that engine. Vibe-wise, I was going for a mush between The World Ends With You, Chibi-Robo, and Nintendogs. It is cute, bright, and obnoxious.
The game can be beaten once in about an hour.
Featuring:
-2 endings!
-Over 20 dog breeds!
-dum shibe
-100 billion lines of dialogue
-About 2000 references to obscure video games that only I will understand
-My tears

This is because 2K/2K3 has a bizarre rendering engine built on top of what appears to be DirectDraw. XP and VX instead use Direct3D and render flat graphics- same as all my 2D engines- this lets them run on just about anything since it's easy for modern systems to understand (and it makes rotation, scaling, etc. very easy to do and very fast performance wise).
What you need is something that specifically works with DirectDraw applications.
A quick Google search shows that Windows 8 has lots of trouble running DirectDraw applications well.
The error "RPG Advocates is Awesome" appears if you attempt to modify specific locations of the .exe (I think its looking to see if their name is intact in the dialog boxes or standard VERSION information in the .exe resources).
I know that a lot of Windows 8 users have had some problems running any RPG Maker 2003 games. For starters, are you running the game using an administrator account? Trying to run some Rm2k3 games in a guest account may not have them work quite correctly. Secondly, did you unzip the file when you downloaded it first from RMN (right click, “unzip” / “extract all”)? And third, try right clicking on the .exe file and go to the compatibility option and for compatibility mode choose to run the program in another mode and see if that helps.
I thought this game was really funny, and the way Pom talked was funny and reminded me of the actual internet.

Cool. Keep us posted, K, in case a screenshot or something drops. I like that the concept is really unique. You'll be using 2k3 again? What will gameplay be like?
I'm planning on using Unity! Probably won't have time to really work on it til summer, but I'll let you know when something happens :>

...When you say personification, do you mean, "gijinka", or the actual probe has a kind of sentient AI or anthropomorphized approach, a la The Brave Little Toaster?
