My self-indulgent mess of a first game, starring an entire cast of dogs!!
Made with RM2k3 with the goal of being the happiest, least scary game ever made on that engine. Vibe-wise, I was going for a mush between The World Ends With You, Chibi-Robo, and Nintendogs. It is cute, bright, and obnoxious.
The game can be beaten once in about an hour.
Featuring:
-2 endings!
-Over 20 dog breeds!
-dum shibe
-100 billion lines of dialogue
-About 2000 references to obscure video games that only I will understand
-My tears

I'm pleasantly surprised at how dramatic the good ending was (It was pretty easy to get I thought). And I like the doggy portraits a lot :3
Also the yaoiness...I laughed so hard at the puppy dog eyes.
I did try the bad ending tho, LOL Pom. I think it's a nice starter project. I love the aesthetics.
Also please don't take any offense to this but man, THANK YOU FOR STICKING WITH REAL PIXEL ART THAN JUST SOME GRADIENT CRAP. A lot of artists do it lately and it drives me insane trying to explain to them it's not pixel art and uafhsafas.
My one issue is the frisbee field. Like when I was with...Chi? Chu? I forgot. Like when I had to go back and try not to get hit or when I go back but Shibe stops me on my tracks. It got annoying ;~;
author=ArandomgamemakerIt's funny because the general reactions to Pewdie playing my game on RMN and on Tumblr are polar opposites. On Tumblr, I'm getting messages like "This is so popular that Pewdie played this?! I'm so sorry :("
You are very lucky that Pewdiepie decided to play this game. I'm happy for you ^-^
author=GironI'm glad you liked the game! Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the timer does stop when dialogue such as a Yo Mama joke is up.
Oh,if i could add something is,it was a shame not being able to take the time to read dialogues in battle since you have to keep track of the timer a lot, maybe if you prepare a similar battle interface in the future you could stop the gauge from charging while the dialogue is up? and maybe also the foe's life gauge (maybe it's there but i don't think i've seen it x_x"). As i said before though, enjoyed playing it a lot!
author=CorfaisusDidn't see this before it got edited, but I think I can guess the gist of it
Post edited out on account of waambulance.
It's natural to be unhappy when something you don't like becomes popular, especially when you feel that better things ought to be receiving recognition instead. When I remember that Angry Birds is getting a movie while the underappreciated game Ghost Trick sold so poorly that its planned sequel was never made, I want to die.
So I understand if you resent me and I can't blame you for it. However, rather than wasting your energy on hate, you should use it to make a game so mind-bogglingly good that everyone forgets about my game.
If I'm wrong and that post was actually something totally unrelated like "I love Kidz Bop," please disregard what I just said
author=TentarafooThanks for sticking up for me! You're right that I'm just as bewildered about this whole fiasco as everyone else. This isn't really what I wanted...It's like becoming famous for having a disease named after you
However, I don't think this game's popularity is gonna go to Me Patra's head... the success is probably just as puzzling to Me Patra! Though I think this can only help the community so I'm not sure where the reactions are coming from that are like "bleh, this game's getting attention... WHY THIS GAME? Why not some other one?".
author=TentarafooOh no! I'm sorry you got trapped, that's a mistake resulting from my own carelessness :(
I was trying to cross the bridge after the sakura trees and then accidentally got stuck in the sky with Shibe.
Me Patra, seems that the name "POM" looks like "Porn" when typed normally... so everyone I've tried to tell the game about... uh... thinks I typed Porn Gets Wi-Fi. :(
Also, yeah, I'm aware of that :c I hope the misunderstandings caused by this were not too awkward.

I'd love to be able to do this, but even the greats of the community that earned their recognition through honest effort took years to accomplish what your game obtained in a matter of days, and even then they've fallen short and will continue to do so for as long as Pewdiepie's "Pom Gets Wi-Fi" videos receive views. It's no longer anything that can be gauged on genuine merit, if it ever was. If it wasn't, I'm mistaken. All anyone can hope to do is make a game that can get some decent reviews from some people and hope someone else doesn't come along to shit on it just for giggles.
Frankly, I think we should just do away with the download ticker that way people like me who let the stupidest stuff get under their skin once in a blue moon will have one less thing to worry about. We should be more concerned with what makes up a game rather than how often people give it the time of day anyway, right? Whodathunk that big numbers exhibited by someone other than one's self might make one feel inadequate in a community founded around RPGs? That's some final boss grinding shit right there.
EDIT: What it really boils down to is why bother making a game that's mind-bogglingly amazing when a game that deliberately disregards things that make games seem "professional" will still bubble to the top? Why don't we all just make still picture screensaver RM games and let that take up the entirety of RMN?
Nobody should be annoyed at you for making a game, what's been happening is simply a knee-jerk reaction to the first known example of an RPG Maker game literally going viral, and it's this.
Having made and played some games that got tons of downloads, and ones that got very few downloads, it's pretty clear to me now that chance plays a big role in popularity. Having zillions of downloads/views/hits doesn't mean that the game is good, but it also doesn't mean the game is bad. Would this game get as much popularity if it were a horrible game? Possibly. Would it ever get very popular if PewDiePie hadn't played it? Possibly. Those things are impossible to predict.
The thing about Pom Gets Wifi is that its popularity is pretty absurd compared to EVERYTHING ELSE WE'VE EVER SEEN IN THE HISTORY OF RMN, and it's pretty safe to say that it's NOT the best game in RMN history, so it's easy to get a sense of unfairness out of it. But hey, having a rpg maker game made in RMN get this famous doesn't make all the other games in the site any less famous. The opposite is more likely: people will start paying more attention to RM games and to this site.

@Soyari, Kiss, TheMoonDust, wildwes, Alex19009, FruitKat, Jude, and everyone else who said nice things:
Thanks, I'm glad you guys liked it!
@Archeia_Nessiah: Ahh I'm happy you liked the pixel art!! And I apologize for making such a dum shibe
@Corfaisus and calunio: Truth. Bad things get popular, good things get overlooked, and it's unfair but that's life. What I was trying to say was something more along the lines of, "It's only human to be annoyed at me, but that's not going to help anything." Even if you don't have enough luck to make a game more popular than mine, I still stand by my original statement that being fired up by your anger and doing your best is more productive than cursing the world and playing emo music.

Hopefully that's the case. I'm guessing we have gotten as many new RMN members who just joined to post for this game as we do in a normal month. The question is whether they'll stick around, check out and even try other games hosted here. And perhaps, a few of them might even be inspired by this game and want to make their own. Only time will tell whether this comes to pass or not.

I don't understand why you put our names together, seeing that I said the opposite of what he said.
And don't worry, no one is angry at you, and having that many players makes it only natural that some of them will not like your game. But "if you don't like it, I dare you to do better" is never a good answer. I do like your game, as you'll see in my pending review.
@edchuy: It's a matter of statistics. If the site has so many new members, at least part of them will stick around... post, comment, make their own games. That's how things start.
@calunio: Actually, I lumped you two together because you both said that popular doesn't equal good. I realized after posting that my response to Corfaisus was tacked onto it as well, but you commented on it before I could edit it. My bad.
Uh...and for the record, "If you don't like it, I dare you to better" wasn't what I was trying to say either. I'm not looking for an archnemesis here. Try #3: "The world is unfair, don't let it get you down."
I'm glad you liked the game, though! I'm genuinely surprised that you played it, so thanks.

on the one hand I'm sorry that it had to happen like this (since I can't imagine all the noise this sort of thing must carry with it), but on the other this looks like the sort of game that has its own staying power. so even if your first major exposure is rooted in a weird-ass army of obsessive tweens, you're not bound to that fanbase and you can continue to make work that stands on its own. I think that's what's important.
I just had to make an account to say this.

You, sir, are an absolute and complete douchebag, the epitome of humanity we all strive to reach, I salute you.
You're reeking jealousy because you probably made some game that you did your best to make it ''professional looking'' ( Even if you're using fucking rpgmaker) but it didn't get much attention.
Me-Petra probably put effort to get her tumblr up to amass enough popularity to reach Pewdiepie, efforts in the game to make it enjoyable even if the gameplay was shit ( which was probably the point) it was very fun and unique. Even efforts to respond back to your blatant self-righteous asshat rant respectfuly and friendly with a positiv attitude. How does that make her success not honest?
With your shitty and corrosive personality, there's no way you'll even reach a glimpse of attraction towards anything you do.
Also Me-Petra, do you have a facebook page or twitter? I'd like to follow you for updates. Thanks for the game!

Me-Patra don't listen to the haters. This game is GOOOD. I LOVED IT. PLEASe make a sequel or a remake. I suggest one with a challenging battle gameplay, make the game longer, and keep the same humor. I didn't expect to get that into the game but I was sad when it ended after only an hour :(

It looks like you got the zip file, double clicked on it, and tried to run the game. Instead of double clicking on the zip, right click and choose extract all. Then go in the folder it created and run the game from there.
Oooh. Comments page looks like it starting to turn into veterans vs the people who only came here cuz of pewdie.. Popcorn! Getcha popcorn here!
