Much has changed in the years since the Old Gods have perished.

The world continues it's slow descent into oblivion, arbiters of the old order continue their struggle from the shadows, and the nations of the world, formerly oblivious to the Eldritch powers that bore this crisis, begin to harness it's potential for their own gain.

Nero, a man born from such strange powers is thrust into a world of ancient battles, New Gods, and an all powerful enigma who watches over all from his very subconscious.

The long awaited conclusion to the cult classic RPGmaker game; Demon Legacy.

- A note on character commands -

Each character has their own set of specific commands. Not all characters can use items but such characters can make up for this handicap in many ways.

FAQ:

Q: Is this the finished game? All of it?

A: Yes, this is done. There is no "Part I Part II" stuff here. It's done. Finished. Completed.

Q: What about part 1?

A: Disregard it. It's canned. I rewrote the whole thing, or rather reverted the story to what I had planned to do before the game was delayed by waiting for artwork that never panned out.

Q: Do I have to play Demon Legacy in order to understand this?

A: Not really. There are some nods to the first game but nothing that would ruin the experience for newcomers.

Because RMN is no country for old men. Not anymore. /cue tumbleweed.

"So, you found out you're not a businessman after all."

"Just a man."

"An ancient race. Other VX ACE users will be along, and they'll kill it off."

"The future don't matter to us. Nothing matters now - not the land, not the money, not the woman. I came here to see you. 'Cause I know that now, you'll tell me what you're after.

" ...Only at the point of dyin'."

"I know."

Since when was this finised? How come there wasn't any commotion?

Exactly what kind of commotion do you want?? There is quite some commotion around here, particularly the blogs...
Rmn is still THE country for old men,

Few comments on the game (played a few hours today)

Nightblade,

Well your writing talents haven't gone astray which was good to see. I'm currently in the first town, trying to get a ship.

So far I've been fairly meh about not remembering everything that went down in the original. I remember some of the charasets fairly well (rhea especially comes to mind) but how everything finished in demon legacy is a bit fuzzy for me.
I think ill write a review when its all over - enjoyed the
Parts I've played thus far.

Bug report: If you go back to Alistar study after obtaining the eye the whole scene of "you are afraid of your power ..." repeat.

I will update this post as I encounter more bugs

It's only my honest opinion I hope you don't get offended: I finish the game and It was satisfying, also in the beginning I just couldn't accept the jokes, it seems like a very serious game and had a very serious atmosphere and suddenly you throw a joke in? man not every game need jokes, sorry to say this but the jokes was not funny either (at least in the beginning, the jokes become a lot better in the end though).

Anyway it was very beautiful game, also the size was way too big for RM2k3 game. thanks for creating it.
I finished the game, and I must say I really enjoyed it (although, could've been longer).

The battlesystem was one of the better ones I've played (yes battles were a bit easy, but you had to use strategy to make them easier).

Storyline was great and I enjoyed the characters; I think my personal favorite was corvus, whose history could've been fleshed out much more.

My memory was jogged a little bit with introduction of more of the demon legacy characters (which I may replay actually).

Overall great game. Malakai by the way reminds me of lezard ala VP
Someone needs to film a playthrough of this! Loved the demo.
Kinetic Cipher really is an awesome skill!
I mean, being able to fully restore the whole party...and even Nero himself makes every healing point useless :D
One of the things I really love about this game is the pacing. Sure, I haven't gotten around to finishing it yet, but from what I experienced so far the pacing is perfect. You're always going and there's ALWAYS something happening, with hardly any filler material to speak of.
I think I'm at the last battle. Lost the first time. Haven't tried again yet, but I agree with Ephiam. The buildup and the pace that the story kept has been brilliant so far. I've been enjoying ever minute of my experience so far.

So my hat's off to you for crafting such a well designed game. It's not perfect, but I'll be damned if I don't say it's pretty great nonetheless.
the game crashes with a cannot open misc1 file error when i fight the crazy looking bird while on the boat and it uses gale slash

also panaceaum can only be used on the field screen and it adds banished status. if you enter battle with all 3 characters in banished status it's game over
Alright, I beat it.

I gotta say, I think the game's balance took a bit of a lazy nosedive towards the end of the game with bosses having hit all+status effect type of skills. It's pretty annoying trying to go through and cure everyone only to have the boss apply them again out of sheer terrible luck. I'm not sure how I managed, but I did.

That aside, I enjoyed the ending. It was a satisfying conclusion to the journey taken I think. However...
I did find it funny how most of the game consisted of Nero powering up, but then still being unable to face Shadar. Hell, even in the end, all Nero could do was 'match' him. Makes me wonder how much more it would actually take to be rid of Shadar for good.

@ Skie Fortress :
it seems developer like Shadar too much to let him lose to anyone :P
A very good game, been really enjoying it thus far.

However, I also have the same problem that the boss in Arcadia won't escape. Can someone help please? Because I really want to continue the story. :)

Well...
Slade did sort of beat him in the intro. And he could have gotten rid of Shadar for good if he just killed Nero that one time...but otherwise, the majority of the game was just Shadar being awesome and everyone else failing.

But I guess that's the rule of the day when it comes to this kind of dark fantasy. The heroes aren't absolute and they're not going to win off the strength of their FRIENDSHIP and LOVE. ...But it's still kind of off-putting. A bit.
Hey now, he was foiled and stalemated in the end. Also, he lost a few times in Demon Legacy :X

Yeah I kinda agree with this about the ending.
It really felt like he needed to go at the end of this one, especially after Nero's speech about him being the cause of the imbalance he was trying to correct, that was such a beautiful irony that never played out, that in the end he couldn't make the sacrifice he demanded of everyone else. But then it just sort of went away.

Apart from that it was a very good and polished game though, I really enjoyed it, even if I had a few qualms with the plot.

I'm in Arcadia right after defeating
Slade
. I'm almost sad that this game is progressing a little TOO quickly! Never have I enjoyed myself this much playing an RPG Maker game. I love every minute of it, and would no doubt have any qualms about playing through it for a good 30+ hours (in total, of course).

I find myself looking forward to Indie/RPG Maker projects more these days than I do commercial games. They're just far more enjoyable, are completed (relatively) faster, and there are plenty that have a lot of good things going for them! Phantom Legacy is no exception. I think I'm enjoying this more than any game I've BOUGHT in the past two years or so. Is that sad? Well, I guess that's for you to decide.

Anyway, great job! I really thought that
confrontation with Shadar after defeating Slade would end up being the ACTUAL fight against him.
Kinda glad it wasn't. =P

I'm actually more of a fan of
Malakai
than Shadar, to be honest. Now THERE'S an awesome villain. Love his personality.

EDIT:

Oh, wow... I was WAY closer to the ending than I thought I was. Well that stinks! Oh well. It's over, and all I have to say is that I enjoyed the experience TREMENDOUSLY! Congratulations on completing such a marvelous project, Nightblade.
I agree with Ephiam: I wouldn't mind playing this game for 30+ hours (if it had a longer story), that's how good this game is.

At the risk of going off-topic,

It depends. You could say that it reflects the vast amount of innovation and talent here in the community, which is a good thing for the future of gaming. However you could take the view that the commercial gaming industry is in a sad state of affairs if their (big budget) games couldn't captivate the players in a way that a free rpg maker game can.
Personally, I feel that most big budget commercial games these days lack the dedication and effort that you can see in games like this one.

Perhaps the time constraints that commercial game developers are under is a factor (SEGA and EA need to make profits to keep their shareholders happy after all).

Edit:
I almost forgot to say,
Thank you very much Nightblade for the superb gaming experience you delivered with this game!!

:)
Thanks for all of the kind words everyone. It means a lot.

I do wish I had made the game longer, initially I wanted there to be an extra dungeon after the Ether Vein; but I couldn't really fit it into the plot as kind of came together, so I added the miniature dream-ish sequence you saw after *that* fight to help flesh things out better. Funnily enough, that whole sequence with Shadar's Keep wasn't even in the original version.

I wish I had fleshed out the supporting cast a bit more too, delving deeper in Corvus's past, The relationship between Lamia, the world, and Haizum, and Janus's transformation are all things I regret not exploring deeper, and lets not forget the amount of time the game took to complete.

Oh well, these are things that will all be fixed in the eventual remake. Whenever that comes.
