It prowls ever closer.

If I keep at this pace, I should have a demo ready real soon. I've got about 20 minutes down so far, so maybe another 10-15 more should round up a demo that will hopefully hold the player's interest from the moment they see the opening credits to when the game comes to a close. ^^ If I can get you guys to scream "More! Give us more!" then I would have succeeded in my task.

It has been a good few months since I started working on the custom tileset but it is paying off handsomely. The game actually looks and feels like a commercial product, and its the kind of demo I just want to play over and over and over again.
So that's a good sign.

Also, I've been overhauling some character skill sets as well as the ways in which Ianna and Dante can level up their magic spells. It works a bit like FF2's ( original Kawazu FF2 ) system but without the excessive and monotonous grinding. Of course, I need to give the player a reason to be leveling up those spells in the first place ( aka Tristy shouldn't be nuking everything in sight with that awesome Orion's Bolt skill of hers ). Tristy's skills are a combination of both a Dark and Holy Knight, a connection I make with regards to both sides of her personality while Ianna is a bit like a Mage meets a Healer. Dante is still a badass Mage Lord of course.

Also, the plot has taken a bit of a twist. I think I'm going to write out the entire evil cult thing ( aka Ebony Hand and Disma; he won't be appearing anymore. Same with Nestor ). I want to make it more centered on political power struggles and the things a person would do for the sake of their country. Even the usual soldiers you fight as mooks have a reason to ____________. Even your enemies need a bit of sympathy at times, and I don't want to portray Tristian as an idealised heroine who can do no wrong.

:0 Woman on the run with her future lover? Hell yes.

And I'm quite sure I can already hear unity squealing from the other side of the Atlantic. XD Then again, the game is only around 7 hours long, so it gives me a reason to uh... speed up their relationship.

So, I have another... 3 days to go, I guess. Consider it a gift since I missed out on the RMN Birthday celebration. :D

Haha, I'll try :P
YES GOOD HUGS YES GOOD I LIKE IT YES GOOD
More yuri is always good, right?

I really need to update this main page. It doesn't paint a clear picture of the game, since there is no evil cult/dark magic/Disma anymore. Even the antagonists you will face are not inherently evil, but rather, there is grey-and-grey morality. Rather, they are men acting in the best interests of everyone. So even our titular heroine may be in the wrong for once, and her pride could be her... downfall ( since most JRPG heroes always do the right thing and get the happily-ever after prologue ).
I kind of want to release a longer demo after reading Red_Nova's advice to improve the writing aspect of the game ( I actually wrote an additional scene that makes our heroines seem more... human, with some subtle flirting thrown in, of course ;) ) since I feel that a half an hour game isn't enough to do justice.

What do you guys think?
Well, I always support more grey-and-grey morality, and longer demo would mean more material for a future review of mine, so I would say that's a very good idea.
I am going for a gray-and-gray morality approach but even so, I still need to give the player a reason to be supporting Tristian and Ianna and give them a reason to care about them. But at the same time, try to give reasonable motivations for the antagonists plotting and maybe even let the player sympathise with their plight.

Yeah, I'd be totally in for a longer demo! :DDDD More emotion, more character moments, that sounds great to me! <3

You already know my answer, Luchino, but to expand on my point:

The demo doesn't necessarily have to be LONGER, just more fleshed out. When I say longer, I'm talking about extended cutscenes that increase the game's base length. Players can spend forever just exploring and reading flavor text to gain a better understanding of the world they're in. So, while the base game's length doesn't change, they are spending more time actually getting involved in the game and learning about the world the characters are inhabiting. Besides, you've made some good looking assets. Encouraging players to explore more to look at them longer seems like a good idea.

I do agree that some lengthening would be beneficial. Just please don't pull a Metal Gear Solid 4 and double the length of cutscenes without any player involvement.
I was definitely left wanting more. So, you have my extremely important and necessary request for it. More pretty world of badass ladies and love!
@Red: While I can indeed flesh out the current scenes in the game, it needs to be a bit longer if I want a reviewer to take a look at it. And I definitely won't pull off a MSG4. My cutscenes for the most, are no longer than five minutes in length. =)

@Nir: Yes, I can't get enough of them myself. While I'm not shattering the sound barrier with unity-level squeals ( couldn't resist, sorry unity XD ), I do melt every time I look at my two leading ladies, for they are indeed lovely. <3

Who can squeal louder? unity or emmych?

Also, that's good to know, Luchino. I'm glad the cutscenes won't make people forget that they're playing a game!
