13 days before I am supposed to 'celebrate' being on this site for 7 years, i've decided to leave rmn as well. having grown uncomfortable with the circle-jerkers ( aka the devs whose games get the most attention and all their friends ) and the few rotten apples here, it's simply become an unhealthy place for me to hang around.
while i won't be posting here anymore, i'd like to stay in contact with some of the members here by ways of building an e-mail list ( yes, it's a little different from the usual chatrooms like discord/skype, but i see them as massive timesinks. i never get anything done ) informing subscribers about my future projects. so... if you're interested, drop me a pm and we'll see where the road takes us. the simple gesture would mean a lot to me, because it shows that some of you still care. who knows? maybe you'll get a surprise or two.
maybe.
maybe some of you hate me for broken promises i couldn't keep, maybe some of you lost your respect for me because I couldn't keep doing what I loved to do. or maybe some people just hated on Enelysion because it became popular...
who knows? it doesn't matter anyway.
i'm going to keep on being a creative workaholic.
So long, and keep gaming
i was always too serious for this place, anyway

I know exactly where you're coming from. There's been a few times where I get irritated by mediocre games being propped up and hailed as the second coming based on some odd cult of personality. And even though it's innocent in on itself, it does have an unintentional knock on effect for everyone else.
But then again I often ask myself, how does that affect my work? What have they personally done to me and most importantly why should I even care? And besides the occasional eyeroll, it's not really my problem what other people get up too. I guess it's really on us to collectively give out that feedback, realign the focus towards the whole site and just be more vocal in general, not let it become the official site for "Pom Gets Wi-fi" It's an analogy... I love Pom :>
Anyhow I do wish you luck in your future endeavors! I'll probably drop you a pm later on and go more in depth about these issues :P

Ok, I got some not so nice things to say, so brace yourselves here.
So I've gotten the cold shoulder a couple of times when I've tried reaching out to stay in touch. Messages read but zero response. How could I be sure giving you my e-mail is all of a sudden going to be a better option? Can I expect anything at all from it when I'm not even being told to "quit messaging", "fuck off", or even "to kill myself". I mean, at least with those I'm given a clear message to just move on at the very least. I didn't even get those for crying out loud. With the exception of a few friends, I really don't know what people want from me anymore, and this situation only compounds that.
I'd like things to be cool between us, but there's only so much I can do on my end. If you wanna hate me for this, I understand, just don't say I wasn't trying to be real with you here.

Like I said before, this is really unfortunate. I'm glad to see this game ultimately continued XD, but I'm frustrated Luchino won't be able to broadcast it here. It leads me to wonder, what's causing some members to feel that RMN is "unhealthy"? What's the eventual solution, so that we don't lose anymore talented developers?
But yeah, I'll PM ya my email etc. :n_n:

Maybe not serious enough? It's generally considered polite and decent to let the people working with you know ahead of time before you cancel the game and leave the community.
It will never ends, isn't it?
I mean why people likes to loudly "shuts down the door"?
p.s. I still keeps all demo-versions of this game. Still.

I don't get why people have to beat themselves up whenever someone else's game takes off. It almost makes me afraid to have one of my own games suddenly spike in popularity.

what?
So you're leaving because you're not getting all of the attention? Like, I'm not trying to start a big flame war and get myself banned or warned or whatever, that just seems extremely silly.
My most attentive game has gotten 22,182 views in 3 years, while even this game has gotten 261,586 views in roughly the same amount of time. You've got no room to talk about anyone getting the attention that you could be getting instead. What this says to me is that it's never good enough for you. People could be throwing money at your feet for breathing in the same room as them, and you'd still find a reason to say it's unfair to you. You've said time and time again that "it's not fair if I should quit" because "people are looking up to me". I told you long ago to can that attitude because it won't get you anywhere. See where that's lead you? You're stomping off and blaming other people for it.
or maybe some people just hated on Enelysion because it became popular...
Holy shit. Can we turn this into a headline or something? Right alongside other conceited classics like "you people are a collwectiv e embarrasment to game design" would be nice.
Please just go and be successful in whatever it is you plan on doing. No need to keep tearing this place down; you're quickly becoming the same toxic person you claim is responsible for you leaving.

It leads me to wonder, what's causing some members to feel that RMN is "unhealthy"?
I would understand if it's real life commitments or losing interest but quitting on what one or two people are posting is somewhat questionable. Maybe it might be because people tend to pile up on each other if an opinion was outside the accepted norm? That's the only thing that might make it seem unhealthy to people but it's really not that big of a deal to be fair.
Luchi, I will miss seeing you over here. But as your game Enelysion (I think I'm subbed to it at GameJolt), I hope to see you around at other places. :^)
Don't let yourself be punched by people's words. This is something I often hear from youtubers, but when you start to get attention, the amount of "haters", negative comments, criticism and any other kind of commentary grows. I don't know. Thought about sharing that... I mean, you say you don't get attention but, maybe it was building up already. Anyways.
Talking about games that got lots of attention, Pom gets WiFi is the first that comes to mind (I believe Star had the same reaction), it's a phenomenom no one expected (every time I opened the site I thought "what? Pom is still first! Holy cow!"). The circle of devs whose games get the most attention and all their friends, well, they're free to behave as they do. Maybe I don't know them all but, I think the buzzing games keeps cycling nicely (except for Pom, Pom was an eternity and half!).
By the way, Enelysion being loved makes me happy and gives me hope. I will make a game that will beat it, with skill and determination. But Enelysion should still be loved. Only that my game will be loved more >:3.
I'll send you a PM. Be fine Luchi. Salut!

So, them getting more attention than you stops you from working on your game? How does that work?

Your game had gotten more attention than it deserves, considering how it had barely anything to show after 2-3 years in development.
I had never seen any signs of anyone hating your game for whatever reason, even though there are plenty of reasons to dislike it story-wise.

This proves that you're just an attention whore.
You could have just left peacefully without creating further drama about your departure, but you had to do it to satisfy your sick and twisted cravings. All of this is unnecessary and it makes you look bad in front of everyone.

Everyone has their own reasons for working on a game, and there's nothing wrong with wanting attention or validation. It's a pretty common thing! If you don't agree with someone's reasoning for leaving, it doesn't do anyone any good to insult them for it + calling someone an "attention whore" with "sick and twisted cravings" is gonna make you look a lot worse in front of everyone here.
Luchino leaving has no effect whatsoever on your ability to mak gam, so just let her go in peace. I've seen a few other people get shit on their way out and like, it's just going to reinforce their desire to leave. You're better off complaining about it elsewhere.

Does that somehow make what they're saying wrong? No. No it does not. This isn't cool, Dragol.

There's no reason for this behavior. It's true that this game has gotten a level of attention that most developers would die for, and that I feel like Luchino's previous statements blaming the community for the game's failings were unprofessional, but petty name-calling isn't going to help anyone.
However, I still strongly feel that those who have worked with Luichi deserve some sort of a response.

They at least deserve an answer.

But heads up if you, specifically, pm me again I will ignore it. (And I'm not gonna argue in someone else's blog post, so this is a very polite 'fuck off')
Why did you not start your sentences with capital letters? :O Are you related to ESBY?
Anyway, feel free to PM me or hook me up somewhere (I've got some links on my profile related to various sites/portals that I use).
Also, in terms of popularity, you have pretty much one of the biggest fan-bases in the entire RM community and that's been achieved WITHOUT any kinds of social media outlets AFAIK.
If you're looking for more attention, just start posting more on sites like Tumblr and Twitter. Most of today's popular RMN games usually come from Tumblr.
Another thing: if you can get someone like Pewdiepie to play your game(s), then you're pretty much set for life.

So it wasn't just me this happened to? Good to know.
Concerning the lack of feedback issue, I remember asking a question that never got an answer on a different game that was cancelled for the same reason, so I'd like to ask it again here: Did you ever think to just ask for feedback somewhere on this page?
You'd be surprised how much more people are willing to answer a short series of questions about the game than be left with a general "all feedback is welcome." There are thousands of voices competing for the attention of players, and putting something out to the world and expecting them to come to you isn't how the process works. If you're not hearing the feedback you wish, why not get louder about your game? I'm not saying that this will lead to pages upon pages of feedback, but I'm just pointing out a route that you could (and probably should) have taken before slamming the lid shut.
Because look where we are now: a project you loved working on is cancelled, people following and contributing to the game are left in the dust, and there are bad feelings all around.
