So, short intro: Around October I was getting antsy because I had been working a lot and hadn't released anything since Love Has Eight Legs in January. I wanted to finish at least one more semi-polished game before the end of the year, and knowing Lily was going to take me ages, I decided to turn one of my goofy prototypes into a full game.
It'll Look Great On Your Résumé is the result. It started off as a little platformer where you survive as long as possible in an arena while the gravity flips on you (it was originally named Some Wizard Is Flipping The Gravity) but eventually turned into this sprawling thing with lots of levels and obstacles. They were a lot of fun to design and I finished them up pretty quickly.
However, I got this creeping idea that I should tell a little story within the game, y'know? I haven't done much storytelling in my games and I wanted to push myself... so I went with a goofy and humorous satire about an interview gone horribly wrong. This took a lot longer than I thought, partly because I wasn't sure of the best way to fit a story into a platformer, and partly because I was very "out of shape" when it came to writing - especially a comedy, but I tried to see it as practice for Lily and future games.
I ended up going with visual-novel-esque storytelling techniques (inspired by Christine Love's games), and eventually the game became alternating platforming levels ("programming tests") and dialogue with the interviewer. I think it turned out well - it's a unique experiment for me, but I want to continue writing for my games in the future, so it was good practice! Now I've ended up with this hybrid tricky-as-hell-platformer/visual novel... ; ^.^
Anyway, that's "It'll Look Great On Your Résumé". It's really close to being done - only some testing and tweaks remain! I hope you'll really like it :D
