Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland DLC now available!

Wow, talk about not meeting deadlines, right? Some of you might remember that I annouced a Legionwood expansion pack, way back in late 2010. Although it ultimately ended up being cancelled due to hard drive failure, I managed to recover some of its assets a few months ago and, rather than doing the logical lazy thing and recycling them for Legionwood 2, I decided to piece them together and release the resulting mess.

So then, this is the Legionwood expansion I promised all those years ago but never actually delivered? Well, not really. But it's still a pretty cool addition to the Legionwood world.

Legionwood: Mysteries of Dynastland is an expansion pack/DLC for Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords. Featuring a huge new story dungeon set in the midst of the game's chaotic fourth act, as well as a considerable number of all new optional endgame quests, a revised final dungeon and over a dozen new Techs to learn, it expands the original game's playtime by at least three hours and adds several long awaited features to game, including a graphical world map and quest journal.

The main addition in Mysteries of Dynastland is the titular Dynastland dungeon, which takes place between the Sealed Library and Lost City Crebt areas in Chapter 4. This sprawling dungeon crawl is filled with new enemies, puzzles and challenges to test your skills against, and also reveals the never-before-seen backstory of Zanthus and his long lost homeland as your party searches for the mythical Purity Crystal, an ancient Precursor artifact rumoured to be able to manipulate time itself.

Other notable additions to the game include 12 brand new Techs, including unique Techs exclusive to certain characters, a new set of powerful Dynastland equipment, a late-game "scavenger hunt" quest that will take you to the furthest corners of the world, a complete overhaul and rebalancing of all late game content and an expanded final dungeon with a new, harder version of Castoth to fight -- in both the normal and "true" varieties. Overall, it pretty much turns the final act of Legionwood into a completely new game, which was one of my main goals as I was always rather unhappy with how rushed that part of the game turned out.

Anyway, if you're itching for some new adventures, you can grab the DLC here. Simply point the installer to your Legionwood directory and extract, overwriting files when prompted. In order to experience the new content at the appropriate difficulty level, I recommend either starting a new game or loading a game that was saved before the Sealed Library, though most of the new content except for the Quest Journal can still be accessed otherwise.

Check out these screenshots to see some of the new locations in the game:

And with that, I'm off to work on Legionwood 2 again. Happy adventuring! :)

There's a video walkthrough under the Media tab for this game. Give it a look and see if it helps.

Thanks for tip But it doesn't help me much, after I kill double beast, video shows I should return to Martyn, but when I return he said u still should find the Altar. I have no clue, where it can be :(
-------------
I have already figured it out.
Has anyone mentioned that the new version is unencrypted? I can see all the maps, database, and scripts...
That's intentional. All of my games come unencrypted. Essentially, it makes for a smaller filesize, plus people can decrypt *RM games these days anyway, so why not leave the game open to anyone who wants to have a look inside and see how it's done?
Just finished with a few (bug) reports:

1. Contrary to the descriptions, bosses are weak against feeble cantrip. This includes Rift ....
2. Most bosses are weak to status aliments such as sleep and toxify.
3. Quite many weapon/armors doesn't work according to the description, the most notable Yilane sword.
4. The dialog with Bonus Critical skill learning is wrong.
5. Hypnowire is TOO POWERFUL!!! Equip everyone with cutlass + hypnowire and spam regular attack, and you will find that Castoth is unable to hit you in the whole battle!

This.

It was made so that people couldnt spam download to bump their download count up, so it should just be changed so that you can download it multiple times in the hour, but it will only count towards the download count once.
I'm going through my second play through of Legionwood 1. This time with the final version. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story the first time through.

I've run into two minor issues though. The first involves Study Enemies. The command can only be used once. Unless you manually subtract the damage you do to an enemy there is no way to know their current health. Is it possible to have the enemy HP revealed once you use Study Enemies on them?
I might have mentioned this before but I cannot be certain.

The second issue involves the ability to run away from battle. I'm in the precursor city ruins and I can't seem to escape a single battle. I did not have this problem earlier in the game. The only way to escape seems to be if I'm expecting the attack. Am I neglecting a particular stat for my characters?
Hi Aurora,

I'm planning to port the game to VX Ace soon, and this will enable me to resolve the issue with Study Enemies. At the time Legionwood was made, there was no scan script that worked with the Tankentai battle system, and a pitfall of eventing this system means it can only be used once as it's based on switches. At the moment, I can't fix it, but I am working towards it.

As for running from battles, Agility determines whether you escape. Each time you fail to escape, the chances of successfully fleeing raise by 20%, but a high Agility stat is essential if you want to escape on the first try - you don't have to pump AP into Agility for all of the characters (one character with very high Agility should do) but having Agility values roughly on par with the enemies gives you decent chances of escaping. A good way to test if your Agility has been neglected is to keep track of the turn order when the round begins - do the enemies take their actions before your characters do?
Is anyone having trouble downloading this because i try to download it and it says that the game is corrupt and atempting to install it would damage my computer. can anyone help?
Some antivirus programs seem to have issues with RPGMaker games. There's also a chance that the .rar file became corrupted after you downloaded it. Try downloading the game again and see if the error persists.

I don't want to push you to install something that may harm your computer but, as far as I'm aware, Legionwood is perfectly safe to install and not cause for alarm.

Grats on being featured!
Wow! Featured! This is a pleasant surprise. Thank you, everyone.

*bows out to continue working on Legionwood 2*
I'm having more fun with this game than I've had in a long time with paid commercial games. Great job!
In the castle looking for MERCES, the guards are far too strong. As you come out of the room where the CAPTAIN left to warn the king....where is the next save spot so at least I can heal before my party is wiped out....again?
I started playing this recently, it is pretty good. I like the overall feel of the game and the mapping is really nice.

First off, congratulations on being featured.

Regarding your problem with the castle guards. I ran into the same problem when I first started playing Legionwood 1. The solution turned out to be redistributing my ability points. I used Lann as a high defense/attack hitter, Ark as an all around, and Liara as a Black Mage/Healer. I cannot remember where the next save spot is. I know there is one right before you exit the catacombs.

If your really stuck. Try to level up your characters before you enter the castle. Restock on items and purchase new skills if needed. If I remember correctly you should still be able to back track after you enter the castle.

When you do enter the castle keep your characters healed and don't take any chances.

I hope you find this helpful.
Yes, when you're finding it hard in Legionwood, I've found that more often than not, it's something to do with how AP has been distributed. Level really doesn't mean all that much in this game. I've seen people complete it at Level 60 and I've also seen people complete it at Level 30. A good AP build trumps all.
