Everyone knows the story of Final Fantasy IV by now. Yet, I've always wondered what if things had gone a different way? What if, say, Rydia had never joined your party? Or Kain had stayed with you after the incident in Mist? These questions and more are what this game explores, and tries to give a definitive answer to.

This is not a scene-by-scene remake, but rather a re-imagining of what I think a "parallel dimension" Final Fantasy IV would have played like. For the graphics, I took a lot of inspiration from the PSP remake, though I did try to up the quality of the graphics at least a little bit (especially using Celianna's tilesets which are amazing). Most of the tracks from the original game have been replaced with remastered/remixed tracks from all over the internet, such as OCRemix, the DS version, Dissidia, and many Youtube artists.

I'd like to note here that I went for a blending of several prior versions of the game in terms of the actual 'feel' of the game. Such as the title screen, I went for the classic U.S. release on SNES and just upped the graphics as much as I could. Other areas will have more of a SNES feel while others will reference the PSP and even DS versions at times. The maps themselves are similar to, but not exact, replicas of the original maps from the SNES version. Dialogue is going to be a mix of the Gameboy Advance translation with original story by me.

Lastly, a huge shutout and thank you to the dev of Legend of Balance. Your game was an inspiration and tremendous guide for me, and it's awesome.

IMPORTANT - If you come up with an error stating that you are missing the xinput1_3.dll then you will need the following (safe download from Microsoft's site) DirectX Jun2010

**Do NOT enter the Moon's caves post-game or else you will glitch your game!**

Reverted the build to a previous one (in which there were no significant issues save for the lag on the Overworld). My apologies for the inconvenience, but it seems that trying to fix the lag present only caused more issues.

Features:

- Random Encounter Radar System
- You may go to fullscreen by pressing ALT + Enter
- Battle Rows similar to the original game
- Classic side-view Final Fantasy-type battle system (Modified Journey Battle System)
- New cut-scenes and dialogue depicting an alternate version of events from the original story
- 15 to 30 hours of gameplay
- Battle Difficulty options
- Enemy HP Bars (they're visible when an attack is made)
- D-Pad functionality on Gamepads
- New "Lunar Expanse" bonus area (Boss rush dungeon)
- New "hidden" Arena

Special Controls:

To enter Lunar Whale's control room:
Keyboard - Q key
Gamepad - L button

Lag Killer & New Download

Hi peoples!

Got a pretty big update, and it's that I think I somewhat killed the L-A-G present on the Overworld (especially in late game). I've also fixed up a few passabilities in some areas, and I believe I fixed the whole post-game bug-whenever-entering-moon-caves-thingie. I've posted a new download for the game with these new updates (Google Drive) so I hope you'll take advantage. Oh, and you'll want to start a new save for the game after downloading this updated version. Old saves will work, but they'll be all wonky when going back and forth between Overworld and towns/dungeons.

Here's hoping the game performs better, and thank you all for your support! =)

Hello.
You maybe know this but when i use my old save on the newest build of the game the Lunar whale dissapear when i try to go in to the last Dungeon again.
My thought is that maybe it is not my old save that makes it happen, maybe the bug is still there in the last version.
So even if you plays from the beginning you will not be able to go back and complete some things in the last Dungeon.

Are you referring to after you've beaten the game or before? If it's post-game, there is no way to enter the final dungeon again. If you fly your ship over the Crystal Palace during post-game, you'll see no entrance there. Anything to do with the last dungeon must be done prior to post-game. This is to avoid certain glitches like that and a vast array of others. In hindsight I probably should've removed access to the Lunar passages themselves.
Ok.,my bad. That was the version i had before.Thank you so much for a great game.

That is pretty weird. No one else has reported that issue, and I've never run into it. What are your computer's specs? Are you running Win 10, 8.1, 7, or something else? Did you try rebooting your system at all?
Win XP pro SP3- java full updated-Direct X v-10 The sound and music plays ok.
I have to reboot so as to get out of the freeze up.

Oh wow you're on ol' Win XP? It sounds like your specs are a bit on the older side of things, so the lag and freeze-ups you're running into are probably a result of older hardware. I can't think of anything else it could be, as no one else has reported those issues and it's working perfectly on my end as well. It may be a 2D game, but it does require a bit of processing power since there are quite a few events happening. The battle animations and particle effects also can be harder to handle for older systems, and there are areas within the game that have large animated parallaxes that will require even more processing power to run smoothly.

I'd say for minimum specs you'll need to have at least Windows 7 (I'm not able to test it on earlier OS like Win Vista or XP as the game was made in Win 7), a Dual-core or better processor with at least 2.0 Ghz, 2GB RAM, a low-end HD graphics card, and at least 1.5GB free on the hard drive.
So umm i just got to the moon the 2ed time and i have to say so far this has been a really fun game however i have to ask you say there is a hidden Arena any hints of where it is at i have looked all over or do i have to beat the game first?

I'm glad you're enjoying it! =D Here's a bit of a hint for you...

The hidden Arena is in the Town of Troia. You'll need something you can buy there in order to unlock it. There is also a bonus dungeon after you beat the game. Enjoy!

Man i feel stupid now i even went to the place before but lacked the money i remember even thinking i should come back to see if something was changed :)
Time to kick butt
Ok so i beat the game just now and overall i would say this was a fun and good fan game.
Only issues i really had with the game are the following.

The tents did not work unless you reopened the menu on a save point not a big deal but still bugged me a little.

I forget her name but i will just call her evil rosa. It was not made clear or to me why she had a change of heart maybe i missed something but last i knew she was evil then she wanted to be good with no clear reason why. I thought they had said something about how she broke out of the main bosses control but i thought she was still evil.....maybe it was a plot twist but i would have liked to see her be the real final boss at the end :) but really i just got a repeat of what happened in the First game.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah that tent thing is a kinda weird quirk. It's probably a result of the savepoint script I'm using, and I did try to fix it, but it's just one of those weird things I suppose that happens.

The theme of FF IV has always been redemption. In the original game, it was for Cecil. He went from Dark Knight to Paladin, atoned for his past, and you know the rest. In this game, the twist is that it's not so much Cecil as it is Auranox that seeks redemption before she can be consumed by the Will of Zemus. She breaks free of his control, and when that happens, she makes the conscious choice to aid Cecil rather than try to destroy him. I actually did have a final boss set up for Auranox, but it didn't coincide with the theme of redemption that is the crux of the game.
Hi umm stupid question how do i rate a game i wanted to give this game a 4.5. Truth be told it's more of a 4.2 to me but i don't think you can rate a game that :)

If you mean on here? I believe you have to write a review, and you get to choose the rating for the game (I believe it's at the bottom of your review where you can click on how many stars). If you're going to do a review make sure it's a decently thorough one, as your review goes through a review process before being posted.
shame i have never done a review before they really should just have a system you can use to rate a game without a review.
Thanks for making a great Final Fantasy fan game. I liked the different plot.
Even though I thought it was pretty horrible what happened to Edward.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah I figured that scene would split peoples' thoughts about it. For me, I always questioned why Edward was "shielded from arrows" by Anna, and why he didn't do that for Anna since he loved her so much. For this scene, I decided to explore that, and really show Edward as I think he truly is, a cowardly sycophant who let the 'love of his life' die for him. Tellah responded as a furious parent. All he saw was Edward alive, his daughter dead, and Edward finally admitting he let her die to save himself. It's a tough scene, and it'll strike various people differently I'm sure.

That scene actually made me cry a little bit. As well as another scene not long after.

Why you gotta do that to Palom, man?

Yeah I actually cried when I did that scene with Palom. Felt even more emotional the more I had to test that scene out too. I wanted it to come across as a powerful and pivotal scene to show that Rydia has gone over that edge.

It definitely shows. I haven't completed the story yet, but I've played through a significant portion and I like what you've done so far. Got any plans for the other ff games?
