gwa...? I don't think I submitted this here. Admittedly, I've never really browsed softpedia before. And I wouldn't have used the word "colorful" in my description (for one, it's "colourful"), so someone else wrote that description.

I'm at home now, and checked out the page. That is definately my game, my standard game description and my usual username, except that the Lost Password function doesn't return anything for my usual email addresses meaning that someone posed as me and posted the game.

I've emailed their tech support asking for help retrieving "my" login info...we'll see how it goes.

Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. (but it's pretty cool, regardless)

Oh yeah, when I checked out the gamepage, there was an ad for Evony. Figures.
Weird. Has the amount of downloads reflected this unexpected exposure?

Well, it has its own file and download count. It's at about 24. I downloaded it, and yeah, it's the .zip file of the latest upload here.

I wonder if Softpedia just grabs games? Though I doubt that a game made in an illegal maker with ripped graphics would be high on their to-get list...

I am both flattered and intrigued.
Nope, they don't. I checked out their program submission standards, and while you can manually fill out a program submission form that will be checked over by a person in 24-48 hours before, they also support the standard signed PAD for submission.

I think that the manual form can be filled out anonymously by someone other than the developer, but the developer name has to be put on the form.

Anyway though, if I were you I would leave it up there. 24 downloads in less than a day is pretty good.
Also, your game looks like the best one on that page, except for Overlord II.

Wow, that was quick.

Hello,

We at Softpedia Games would like to apologize for any inconvenience we might have caused you by publishing your game. Still, it would be worth mentioning that there wore no specific instructions as to the need to ask for publishing rights for publishing the game. Nevertheless, if you wish to remove your game from our repository, we will do so immediately.

Please consider that we would still like to keep publishing your game, only with your permission, because we would like for others to enjoy playing your game.

At the same time, we would still like to keep publishing your game, only if you agree and all the development rights will go to you. If you ever want to change the description of the game or decide to update it or release something new, you can use our submission form ( http://games.softpedia.com/user/submit.shtml ) and all the modifications will take place in less than 24 hours (or you can write me a personal email at BLAHBLAH).

Thank you in anticipation and any questions that you might have, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best Regards,

I replied and said "HELL YES!" but only more professionally.
Eighty downloads in two days. At that rate it's going to overtake your downloads from everywhere else.

No kidding eh?

I kind of wished that I kept better track of my download counts for this game. I know that v1.2 got up to 1000 downloads in a pretty short span, but I have no idea how my demo did in the early days.

On a side note, the traffic stats for my site at freehostia spiked yesterday to over triple the daily average (which isn't saying that much, admittedly), but still! Typing Hero's Realm into Google brings up the site at number 2. I should probably cave and buy a real domain name. Maybe.
Typing 'Hero's Realm' into Google brings the site to number one now.
Sorry for the double post. Damn computer :(.

Dang. I thought I got 4 new comments last night. Turns out to be just one big one (though much appreciated!)

The game has about 112 downloads already, and 5 people have rated it 5/5! Goes to show the potential for the market for neo-retro RPGs. I should cash in on this.
Four of those five people were me. I was testing Softpedia's rating system to see if it is exploitable (turns out it is).

I'm uploading my games there from now on...

If anyone is still following this saga, downloads from Softpedia have pretty much dried up. I'm at about 140.
