So who's the pixel artist behind our friend here?

Because it's totally a friend. I feel so relaxed around it!

Only thing I'm not a fan of is staging your charset right on the bottom edge of the screen. Otherwise I'm loving all of this.

Thanks! Originally your character is in the center, it scrolls up for the scene when you speak with the creature ^_^

I kind of assumed that was the case, but it's not what I mean. I'm speaking in terms of your current screen composition in this particular shot.

Because your character's feet are that small, they almost literally hit the edges of the bottom portion of the screen. Speaking in terms of composition, it causes the image to flatten out a bit and in an imposing scene like this, you want some overlap to convey depth.

Or meh I'm better at showing than telling:

Here I just moved the character up roughly a single tile length from the edge of the screen, and also cleared off some of the purple cliff to have your char overlap it. It makes a HUGE difference imo.

PS: I have a BFA and take classes in Animation and Film to this day, so you can trust me. :P
I don't have a BFA or classes in anything, but agree you should trust Ratty on this one. It does a lot to the composition and makes the beast look way more imposing with just that simple change. Just frames the scene nicer.

( Then you throw a text box over it and suddenly it doesn't matter ;P )

Wow, you're absolutely right! That looks way better! Thanks so much for that, I'll redo the cliff tileset there and reupload a new screenshot when I'm done. :DDDDDD

Haha, yeah, the text box kind of obscures the whole effect, but at least it'll be a nice first impression before that XD

EDIT: I updated it to look like your screenshot. I think this does indeed look a whole lot better! Thanks a bunch Ratty and Maki! :DDDDD

Hooray! :DDDD
Would it be difficult to have said friend cast a shadow over the character (and the cliff)? It might be over the top, but I think it'll make it look more imposing; like it's looming over her and all.

The cliff also looks a bit flat and empty, but that might be just me.

Regardless, it's really nice! :D

Yeah, I agree it looks a little empty. Maybe at some lighting to it?
Soo...do you want to hit the panic button, or should I?

You'd think MZ would use a dictionary for switches/variables by now?

How do you guys even know if the creature wants to hurt you? Maybe it just wants to be friends? :)

Totally! See, the title assures you that this being is totally trustworthy! I should make a poll: "Do you think you have to fight this thing in the game?"
My vote's going on no. Just because I got endeared to this particular being while drawing it and I don't wanna punch it in the face! o<o!
