Important: One Small Favor has been cancelled due to a hard drive failure. The data has been lost. But don't worry, it wasn't going to be that good anyways. The concept of perma-death and perms-injury was pretty fun, and it will probably come back in a future game of mine if I ever return to development. So sorry.
One Small favor is a short game featuring narrative-based permanent death and permanent injury. It's challenging, frustrating, and overall rather difficult. You will have characters die. They will be injured. You will be challenged to make due with the heroes you have, with the limited skills they have, against enemies that are stronger than they. You have eight characters to choose from to form your 4-man party, and they can be swapped at any time outside of combat. Good luck.
Plot
Eglan is an older man who has retired from a life of heroism. Always looking to rekindle his youth, he picks up a notice on a work board outside of a local pub. "Local mining operation halted due to critter infestation. Paying a half a year's worth of gold for adventurers willing to clear out a few small monsters that have been giving us trouble."
A week later, Eglan sits at a table in that pub as the mining foreman, Tobias, slinks into a seat across from him.
"I hear you've got some monster issues," says Eglan. "I can get a team together and handle it."
Tobias nods. "It's just a small favor. A small number of critters that need to be squashed. Nothing a team of adventurers can't handle."
A few minutes later, the men shake hands. Eglan travels throughout the town, recruiting other adventurers from all walks of life, some who've made a living in war, and others from a more unsavory background.
The team is forged, and a handful of supplies are gathered. Two weeks later, the eight of them show up outside the cavern.
Gameplay
One Small Favor is a short, difficult RPG which should last no more than a couple hours. The combat is challenging, and will force you to use your skills wisely. You have eight party members, some which are similar to each other, and others different, all which have unique skills to use. Find which party you like best, and do what you can to complete this small favor.
The characters are not amazing fighters. They won't be the best at squashing monsters. They will swing and miss. They will frustrate you, but you must work with the team you have to complete the contract.
The game features permanent death and permanent injury. While there is only one ending, different things can occur while in the cavern.
Equipment is not the focus of the game, but items are crucial: you will find some beneficial items scattered throughout the environment. Your equipment, however, is not bound to any class or profession: everyone can wear any type of booster, but they only affect parameters such as hit, evasion, and guarding against certain status effects known as hexes.
Releasing Soon
This page was submitted when the game has been completed. It is in the post-production phase at this time. If you are interested in testing the game, please send me a PM or post below and I'd be more than happy. The game, as I mentioned, is only about 2 hours long. It will release very soon.
